Happy Memorial Day weekend to all my Cardinal fan brethren! Just finished watching my St. Louis Cardinals get 'walked off' for the second time in the last 3 games by the Guardians. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
Anyway, I've been compiling YouTube vids on Clayton Tune and I finally had a chance to watch them this morning before my Cardinal baseball game. I'm going to say I'm really intrigued with his Cougar highlights. He's played 5 seasons of college ball. I understand Tune played in the American Conference and an argument can be made against his level of competition but his highlight resume, to me, says he's ready to make an NFL roster and he's ready to compete for THE back up job.

Have no doubt he can and will sling it. He is Neil Lomax type with better speed.

With the caveat he must look decent in training camp, I'm all in when it comes to starting Tune.
Let's face it, even if Colt is ready to go, he is just not part of our future....remember....we are rebuilding. The other two guys, I have no confidence in. They might be adequate, but not much more than that.
With Tune and at his age, and with all of his pluses, there is room for a potential huge upside. It doesn't mean it will happen, but I like his chances.
Do it now when it doesn't matter if it works out or not.
One thing that will help him, winning will not necessarily be the gage of success or not. We all know we are a sub par team. He will not have the pressure of win now on him. A perfect situation for a rookie.
Give him the reps now, let him learn and gain experience when it doesn't matter.
Will he work out....I don't know...but I like his chances better than our other backups.
This is just my opinion, but I honestly think this is the way to go.

I saw CLAYTON in the headline and remembered John Clayton and all his good work. Including farting on live tv.

Rohan Davey, Phillip Sims, Kyle Sloter, Matt Barkley,…
Just a a couple names this board was so distraught we cut or so elated we signed.
You guys are saying you are good with Tune starting ?? Haha, its May!!!! You have not seen the guy throw a pass and you are saying college tape is enough to say you want him to start?
Yes, he may be the exception to the rule and maybe he is great, but this is so crazy haha. I wanted to draft a QB this year, it was not him, but that doesn’t mean he wont work, but the false hope and lofty expectations are so nuts. I will be excited to watch him and so fun if he pans out, but these comments based off NOTHING, are comical.
The Kyler Sloter cutting was going to come back and haunt us, remember that. Haha

My feeling is that if Tune ever makes it; he has to get the game mentally, study and use the skills he has. Plus he can't be deemed the best starting qb psychologist deemed no threat. He has to actually make rich quarterbacks nervous which is hard to do. It almost makes one a career backup at best. Kyler's absence gives him that chance. Blough probably has an edge, Colt likely retires.

My question--is he better than Skelton ? J2B, I was stunned to see your new avatar this weekend. That mugshot is a classic! The "JustTwoBeers" account name + Keim's police blotter mugshot are ironic. Well played.

I don’t see a downside in giving Tune a lot of playing time. You don’t want to throw a kid to the wolves, but let him show what he’s got as he learns the playbook. This whole season is low pressure, most likely. One long preseason for next year.

I would not expect much from him and the chance of him being that guy are low. I rather watch him then the other 2 back up beside Colt and he has one foot out the door getting ready to be a tv announcer. So Tune is the guy I want to see most.

Take it for what you want, but Bickley on 98.7 said this am, that a source within the Cards said he expects Tune to be the starter. How they can throw that out there now is beyond me, but that would be more exciting (although maybe briefly) than McCoy, Blough or Driskel. That is an extremely sad QB list.

That's the "seeking the Savior" aspect most of us have early in any season. I remember most of them, and am guilty as anyone of hoping one of them would turn out to be a winner, based on their early camp performances.
Are you sure it was Philip Sims, and not another Simms? The Simms I recall was about the same size as Kyler, and was also able to scramble some.
EDIT: You are right, it was Phillip Sims. Mea culpa.
Sloter has gone on to do well in the USFL, and was the league top QB there last
year when with the New Orleans team. He won't be getting rich, but at least he is playing the game he likes.
And true to my habits, I am hopeful that Tune will develop to be a winner!!
