Take it for what you want, but Bickley on 98.7 said this am, that a source within the Cards said he expects Tune to be the starter. How they can throw that out there now is beyond me, but that would be more exciting (although maybe briefly) than McCoy, Blough or Driskel. That is an extremely sad QB list. Belac ... it is a race to the BOTTOM !! Cardinals have a new team to worry about a "tanking" for the #1 pick and that would be the Las Vegas RAIDERS. The revelation over the weekend that Jimmy G's contract is voidable if his foot surgery is not a 100% success could result in Raiders not owing Jimmy G any money. So the race for #1 2024 draft pick will be Brian Hoyer QB of the Raiders vs. Clayton Tune QB of the Cardinals. Outside chances for the #1 pick I would also include Baker Mayfield (Bucs) and Davis Mills (Texans). I posed a question over 2 weeks ago wondering if Fan Duel had any odds for Clayton Tune starting on NFL opening weekend vs. Commanders ... Can Clayton Tune be the 2023 version of Brock Purdy ?

I am okay if it ends up being Mills winning the race! Stroud may have something to say about that, but I still like the chances with Stroud in there. Hopefully it takes Ryan a year to get them ready to compete.

Rohan Davey, Phillip Sims, Kyle Sloter, Matt Barkley,… Just a a couple names this board was so distraught we cut or so elated we signed. You guys are saying you are good with Tune starting ?? Haha, its May!!!! You have not seen the guy throw a pass and you are saying college tape is enough to say you want him to start? Yes, he may be the exception to the rule and maybe he is great, but this is so crazy haha. I wanted to draft a QB this year, it was not him, but that doesn’t mean he wont work, but the false hope and lofty expectations are so nuts. I will be excited to watch him and so fun if he pans out, but these comments based off NOTHING, are comical. The Kyler Sloter cutting was going to come back and haunt us, remember that. Haha.
That's the "seeking the Savior" aspect most of us have early in any season. I remember most of them, and am guilty as anyone of hoping one of them would turn out to be a winner, based on their early camp performances.
Are you sure it was Philip Sims, and not another Simms? The Simms I recall was about the same size as Kyler, and was also able to scramble some.
EDIT: You are right, it was Phillip Sims. Mea culpa.
Sloter has gone on to do well in the USFL, and was the league top QB there last
year when with the New Orleans team. He won't be getting rich, but at least he is playing the game he likes.
And true to my habits, I am hopeful that Tune will develop to be a winner!!
Definitely a fun position to have hopes for and surprises can happen, just not usually around these parts. It will be the mental aspect for Tune, which is the hard part in the NFL.

Let me say one more thing about Tune. I don't think anyone here or even the media pundits that think he is a shoe in to be a good back-up let alone a starter.
However, I have seen countless articles/videos he might...and I emphasize the word "might"....be a sleeper.
Colt is probably not going to be ready go and is near retirement. The other two guys have been around for a while, but their resumes are still skimpy. And if need be and if Tune sucks, they may still be available along with other guys with similar resumes.
Give this guy Tune who thinks he was the best QB in the draft a chance to prove himself. Maybe his over-the-top hubris is silly, but if you want a player to be confident, a QB is where you would want to see that the most. A good QB never has doubts.
We are not expected to go anywhere this season. He will not have the pressure to win now. That will be a plus for a rookie QB.
I have always thought this, too many players and especially QB's just never got a real chance. You can't get good by sitting on the sidelines, you need real game time to hone your skills.
Again, maybe he will be nothing, but I can't think of a better time to give an unknown overconfident QB a real shot.
What have we got to lose?

Blough and Tune are my odds on starters to begin the 2023 season and if it is close in camp I think Tune gets the nod. Why not see what he can do.

Blough and Tune are my odds on starters to begin the 2023 season and if it is close in camp I think Tune gets the nod. Why not see what he can do. Clayton Tune in 2023 had the HIGHEST PFF score (92) of all QB's including Bryce Young. His RAS scoring for athleticism amongst QB's was #2 only behind the physical freak named Anthony Richardson (4.6 40 and 6.89 3-cone) At the Senior Bowl, Tune threw the football with more velocity than any of the other QB's in Mobile. My question - with an improved run game, emergence of McBride ... could Clayton Tune be Daniel Jones (without the ball security issue) 2.0 on a cheap contract ?

The OP links I shared show the good and bad. In a perfect world for Cardinal fans, Murray returns sooner than later and knows Petzig's offense so well, through diligence of so much playbook studying and film, that he hits the turf running so to speak. I liked the draft pick for Tune. It's Ossenfort's 1st QB selected. We'll see in a couple of weeks how Tune conducts himself in mandatory OTA.

On JV podcast yesterday, Bo Brack who has seen all the OTA workouts stated Clayton Tune is running with the 2nd unit ahead of Blough/Driskel. NOTE: Additionally he stated Zaven Collins is definitely running all of his reps at DE/Edge and as I've previously posted the physical traits of Zaven are very close to Josh Sweat of the Eagles. Two other interesting observations from the OTA's are: - Paris Johnson Jr. has taken NO snaps at guard -- only tackle so possibly expect PJJ to start at RT early in the season. My note - wonder if Hump will be moved to LG ? Could the starting OL be - [Josh Jones - Hump - Froholdt - Hernandez - PJJ] ?
- Isaiah Simmons is running with the secondary and Bo's observations is Simmons doesn't appear to be running at LB and in "run" defense packages is not on the field. This somewhat matches with my previous post where I postulated JG/Rallis might use Simmons in a "rover" role in passing down packages though I am a bit surprised in the use of 3 other LB's in run packages especially considering Zaven is at DE/Edge. I have not been able to discern which players are the 3 LB's if Simmons is not on field for run packages - Kyzir White, Josh Woods and ... not sure whom would be the other LB.

I say, "HC Gannon, give the ball to the newest QB." I'm rooting for QB Clayton Tune to do very well at Training Camp and earn the Starter job by Sept 10th. Will Tune make errors? I'm counting on him to make plenty of errors and also to learn fast. I like Tune's size, weight, arm, and brains. All traits are above average to excellent. I will watch for Tune's work ethic, study habits, and teamwork throughout TC. The HC's playbook is always the biggest challenge for the rookies.
I rewatched some of Clayton Tune's highlights at U of Houston, focusing on his defensive reads, footwork, and arm mechanics at passing plays, and a few RPO runs. I recommend Forum members do the same. Tune's got a terrific arm and deceptive sprint speed, like the Bill's QB Josh Allen (6'5", 235+ lbs). I'm not suggesting Tune is the next Allen, just that Tune throws a fastball and he is faster than some assume when he goes north and south. Tune does not have the ankle-breaking twitch magic that Murray had prior to the ACL injury. Few do the things that Murray does. There are some flaws in Tune's game--no rookie grades out at an A+.
Any news on Murray's rehab pace? I did not see any FO or coach comments since mid-May.
I saw Gannon's remarks about Hopkins getting cut and the team moving on. He made himself look good while discussing a sensitive contract topic. I like Gannon's PR style already.

Two, it really opens up draft possibilities. Imagine if Tune balls and we don't have to take a QB next year. We could then trade one of our high picks for another 2 or 3 future 1st round picks. At that point, your team is rebuilt in less than 2 years and you have so much draft capital you could set the team up for a Dynasty. It's dumb luck if that happens and usually the only sort of thing you could see happen on Madden video games, but after Cards fans suffered this long, one can dream. The only problem I see is the NFL would steal more of our picks due to ownership saga playing out in courts. Because NFL hates us.

This could happen, with two very high top 2-5 picks. Monti could wheel and deal to his heart’s content. Still really want the future HOF receiver MHJr. But we could could easily get multiple picks for top Qb- Caleb. Yes indeed the world does hate us, there will be screaming from media and secretly other teams to strip us of picks. Florio will be screaming for NFL’s judge Mary (Bloody Mary) to lay axe to us. Burner Gate, bad ownership treatment of “poor underperforming employees”, etc etc

Side note to this, really believe that Tune’s has the desire and ability to be a star qb in this league. Either KM comes back and lights up the world or there will change this next year. Tunes has that gunslinger attitude and not afraid of anything. Two days ago in OTA, JG told him “Tune that was incredible tight window you threw”. Tune’s response “I got you covered coach, I have those throws in my tool bag”. Tune after the draft said he believed he was best qb in this draft class, only Time will tell but he may be right. If so, what an incredible stroke of luck that would be.

Once upon a time (1974) the lowly Pittsburgh Steelers had a incredible draft. This draft ended up with like 3 or 4 HOF players. Set the foundation of that team that still last today. Call me crazy (well that’s a fact) but have very strong feeling this year’s draft and next year’s super draft will be well remembered.

However we are the Cardinals. More than likely what will happen is at least one of our rookies who is playing fantastic through the first four games will do something off the field and get suspended for the rest of the year or go to prison. Another one of the rookies who's playing extremely well will destroy a knee and never play again. The two rookies that we cut will make the all rookie team, will be all pros for 15 years and end up in the Hall of Fame with multiple super bowl rings.
