If so, what an incredible stroke of luck that would be. Scrub the word "luck" for "evaluation acumen". hence - If so, what an incredible stroke of evaluation acumen that would be. I feel that we have acquired, at least, our QB2 OTF. Anything beyond that (a quality starter) would be incredible and (if so) we are then well on our way to glory. As it happens I don't want to see us investing a top first round pick on a QB in 2024. Get quality in at WR and CB and lets head off up to the stars!

Sharing this vid from a podcast with Chris Simms from the PFT show. Just a quick tidbit: Thanks for the link. Simms make a solid point on what is needed to see Purdy type production out of a rookie QB. A coaching staff to put QB in position for success and a solid roster to support a rookie QB. Tune is a big athletic QB who has arm strength, touch, speed, and lots of playing experience in college.

This is just another article that suggest we should start Tune. Arizona Cardinals: Rookie Quarterback To Start In Week 1?
This is the part I and probably others agree with the most....keep in mind, he needs to show well in camp and preseason... "What do they have to lose? They are trying to be bad so if Tune comes in and struggles, it doesn’t matter. If he comes and does well, it may cause them to rethink their plans for the coming years. Tune would have to be the second coming of Patrick Mahomes for the team to not take a quarterback next year but how will you know if you don’t start him? Even if he is somewhat good, that could make him trade bait to gain even more draft capital."

I believe that the best-prepared QB regardless of rookie or veteran status should start Game 1. Forget that mumbo-jumbo psych stuff about rookies getting ruined by the tempo of the game. Rookies start at all other positions on O/D/ST, and they either do fine or fail. The best get to play, and the rest sit and watch.

Whether a rookie QB is ready or not is helped tremendously by how many games they started in college at QB (one of Bill Parcells primary criteria for whether a college QB can make it in the NFL) -- for example: - Trey Lance - 19 games with 16 of them in 2019 or 4 yrs ago.
- Johnny Manziel - 26 games
- Brock Purdy - 48 games (his 4 yrs at Iowa State - AVG over 151 in QB rating)
- Clayton Tune - 47 games (last 2 yrs his QB rating was over 158 !!)
- Jalen Hurts - 56 games

Truism…IMO. I'm no fan of Parcells. He's the worst of the self-promoters since moving to the booth. But as a franchise guy, he did have an eye for talent and he knew when a QB was ready for prime time, or out of time.

Parcell would not have drafted KM. Good post!

And kind of a weird twist of things I honestly think it's times job to lose. In other words unless he totally stinks and one of the other guys performs like a superstar in camping in the preseason then I think it will be his job.
And I want to go on record right now stating that I think the very first play of the very first regular season game should be a play action pass bomb to Michael Wilson

...and that's just one of Parcells' criteria that Tune possesses. I seem to remember Bill frowned on short qbs too. I think accuracy was in there and game intelligence (knowing when to throw the ball away kind of stuff). I'm on board with starting Tune and leaving him in. Don't see any downside.

I think accuracy was in there and game intelligence (knowing when to throw the ball away kind of stuff). I'm on board with starting Tune and leaving him in. Don't see any downside. Here is a snip-it on Bill’s requirements for a QB to draft: Be a three-year starter Be a senior in college Graduate from college Start 30 games Win 23 games Post a 2-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio Complete at least 60% of passes thrown While none of the criteria takes into account traits identifiable on film, the central theme behind Parcells’ rules is to narrow the field down to those who are accurate, make good decisions, are mentally tough, are part of a winning culture, and finish what they start. Let’s see how the 2022 crop of quarterbacks fits into Parcells’ criteria. To your point Cardcore. Unfortunately one part wasn’t in the Tuna’s equation: Parcells has a formula for selecting a quarterback in the NFL Draft. It is unlike anything you have ever seen before. It does not emphasize any of the points you have been trained to consider valuable. It says nothing about height, weight or speed. The formula does not consider arm strength, speed of release, or mechanics. The focus is quite different. These are from Draft Network and BarStool

Clayton Tune, Houston Clayton Tune (6'22/216) is my personal favorite sleeper QB of this class, as the Houston signal caller performed very well in a few important advanced metrics, ranking second in FBS (Drake Maye #1) in non-play action situations, and 4th in pressure situations according to PFF (Caleb Williams #1). His passer rating of 180.5 in “close and late” situations ranked 7th overall while 9-of-71 pass attempts in those crucial circumstances went for touchdowns, good for the 8th best TD rate nationally. A five-year starter for the Cougars who was rumored to have run a 4.5 40-yard dash in high school, Tune is also a plus-athlete for the position who topped the Senior Bowl signal callers by hitting 76.8 MPH on the radar gun in addition to fitting many of the key “Bill Parcells QB” attributes. I think Tune could be a late-round selection who could eventually surprise, a-la Brock Purdy. Card fans may like this article about 2023 draft as per QBs by NBC.
