"Denver Broncos OLB Baron Browning is traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a future sixth-round pick." That's the headline. Below the headlines were descriptions of a defensive handyman who can play 2 to 3 positions and maybe be on the field for a couple of dozen snaps per game if he can stay healthy. He's not an every-down player, judging from the 6th-round value, nor a player that a QB will have to keep an eye on as a dangerous Edge Rusher. Browning is undersized by about 20-30 pounds to thrive on the edge. RB Henry is the same size as Browning, e.g., about 6'2"/6'3" and 250/247 lbs. I like that the GM got a player who now adds depth to a couple of positions. Browining's contract is also cheaper than other options that break the GM's bank. Lastly, I like that the GM is still shopping. NYG's Ojulari is available. What's his price? Maybe too much for Ossenfort this late in the season. Ojulari is the guy that I would make an offer on at 3 p.m. today, 1 hour before the NFL Trade deadline. See if the NYG's are flexible for 60 minutes. Ask, what does it take to get to "YES?" Sometimes, it's that simple. www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/report-cardinals-have-called-giants-about-azeez-ojulari/ar-AA1toms1?ocid=BingNewsSerp JG stated yesterday he did some research and study back in 2021 (including sitting in on the interview) on Baron Browning ... I believe JG/Rallis have discussed on how to get the most out of Browning. We'll see because Sunday proved how much better the secondary can play when there is pressure on the QB ... I hope Browning and DRob additions (plus IMO more snaps for Stills) could really help the pass rush. I will also be watching Xavier Thomas during Jets game as he may have "figured it out" as well.

Can Rodgers run anymore? I remember him running around in circles to avoid a pass rush and then throwing a pinpoint pass to an open WR during Cardinals games. Ugh! The Jets D can protect Rodgers for 2-3 seconds. That's all the time he needs to read the entire field and then launch a zinger. I trust in Rallis to throw the blitz at the Jets D on 50-75% of plays. I saw CBs and BB zooming in play after play during the CHI game. The strategy vs. Williams paid off. Make it payoff again at NYJ on Sunday.

The last I remember of Rodgers running around in circles to avoid a pass rush, his Achiles blew out and he missed the entirety of the '23 season. I suspect he would do about anything to avoid a repeat of the experience. Which automatically means our pass rush should be all over him like white on rice as often as possible! Even without M. Williams, I think it'd be judicious to keep a double team on Adams on passing downs and have a plan for Brees on the other downs. And Brees is a threat in the passing game as well. I sort of expect a similar game as against the Bears, but with a little closer score. As I have previously said, I don't think there will be a huge population of Jets fans in the stands at SDS.

Cards fan can now see what was happening as the trade deadline entered this week -
Dan Duggan reports the Giants did not get ANY offers better than a sixth-round pick for OLB Azeez Ojulari.... a rental is not worth a 4th rounder. The fact of the matter is the Cards will have the 2nd most cap space and his brother plays here so the Cards can still go after him for 2025 if desired.
On Baron Browning, Mark Schlereth (prominent NFL analyst) was on 98.7 this morning and because of his connection with the Broncos does have good knowledge on Browning. He was effusive in his praise of him but of course with the caveat "if he is healthy." He brought up a comparison to Reddick with a start of trying him at off the ball ILB before moving him as an edge rusher. Of course then VJ in 2023 came onto the Broncos and we all remember how complicated VJ's defense is and their defensive stats as a unit in 2023 was not very good. Browning was going to be the starter in 2024 but got hurt and Bonitto/Cooper (and Zach Allen for that matter) shined for the much improved Denver defense this season.
If you look at 2023 in 10 games Browning had 4.5 sacks and above 30 pressures for a bad defense.

I assumed at least 3-4 teams called the NYG about Ojulari, including Ossenfort. Considering where we are in the schedule with 8 games to go, a team would be nuts to offer more than a late 6th rounder to the NYG. Wait until next March, jump into the bidding war, if one happens, save the 5th/6th rounder for someone who is 21yo and hungrier. Browning will be okay if he can play 8 weeks. I'm not disappointed that Ossenfort did not land a premier Edge for half a season.

My 24 year old son lives in downtown Denver in the literal shadow of Coors Field, and all his friends and co-workers are Broncos fans. His report is that the fans are very unhappy Browning will not be re-signed by the team and be there in the years to come, for whatever that’s worth. There is definitely a “when healthy” aspect.

I don't remember Rodgers running around that much but do recall him being really good and sliding or shuffling around the pocket to avoid the rush. Very Brady like in that regard. That and his propensity to roll out to his left and throw bombs down the field.

I have said before, I'm not a big fan of free agent/trades signings especially mid-season. This one, I'm okay with. He is young and has a upside with pretty good stats.
Of course, the elephant in the room is....is he injury prone. Maybe he is and maybe he is not. Bad luck does happen.
The point is.....can he play. From what I have read, he can. Can he stay healty....we will see.
In my opinion, he is worth what we gave for him. All players come with a risk, I think this one is justified.

I didn't want to start a thread just for this.....but... Arizona Cardinals sign safety Russ Yeast to practice squadI don't know anything about him other than what is said in this article. For a practice squad pick up, he seems decent maybe even great....who knows. At this point in time, I love we are not giving up much to churn up all the possibilities. There is plenty of guys out there that just need a chance. Will he be one of them? Who knows. For me, when you are rebuilding, go through as many guys as you can and evaluate them. There will be some who will step up and be better than you think. I've said it before, MO and JG plains are working. There have been bumps and there will be more......but hey....we are 5 and 4....they are doing something right.

I guarantee they had a plan to bring him back to practice squad, but after he was picked up they had to get depth for that spot elsewhere to add to PS.
