I have very little faith in Boehm. He couldnt even beat out one of the worst rated centers in the NFL. He's merely a backup. That's his ceiling.
this Mason kid i give him a good shot. He started L Tackle among other spots on the line for Michigan. He allowed zero sacks as a center there. But his center experience is limited. he probably shouldnt be thrown in there at this point.
As the cuts go along look for SK to be watching some TC video and calling in some recs.

In his career, hes been a LT 3x longer than hes been a C. Ive always said LTs make the best everything. OG, C, RTs. If you can survive at LT, it means you can play anywhere on the line.

So the best way for Mason Cole to get experience at centre is by signing a vet centre which means he will get 0 snaps at centre...
You don't improve by just putting on pads and practicing, you have to have snaps in actual games.

you don't improve by practicing? then why does every team practice every week despite it causing injuries? but for the sake of argument lets assume you are correct for a moment. what is the goal for the team? is it a) to win games or b)for the sole benefit of a rookie who has never played a single down for us so we can forger about the other 49 players on the team. its a so even if you are correct it doesn't matter. you name me one star athlete who doesn't practice in any sport. the best way to win is to get the best players and let them practice. cole was drafted to be a backup, not a starter. if you were right we would trade every vet we have for draft picks, go into next year with 50 rookies because that's the best way to win? if cole were good enough to start he wouldn't need to improve, he would have already won the job. he's not ready, nor does the future of the team rest on his ability and health. the future of the team depends on the health of the guy behind him, and letting him learn at the expense of him getting rosen retired is definanitly not the answer. you think cole saying "ok coach I think I've got it now and I hear manzel is still available to sign for me to hike the ball to this week" in two years is a good idea? its really not. I promise.

I promise. what? you really can't do much in practice as a lineman. playing games is the best way to improve. why would you go out and sign some bad veteran player when we have our center of the future on the team already? he's looked good so far from all reports. give the guy a chance. and no, Cole wasn't drafted to be a backup, where'd you get that from? he was drafted to take over in 2019 when AQs contract ends. now he has to step up and play in 2018. not what was planned but not the worst thing ever. let's see how he does...

I got cole being drafted to be a backup from them drafting him despite having every intention of starting aq for the entire year as they were drafting him, hence drafting him to be aq's backup. now that aq isn't starting we still need another center. we might as well get a proven one. if cole is unsure of himself that is going to raise his injury risk. even if he is the starter we need a new backup, a cole for cole. if Bradford has to hike the ball to rosen or vice versa we are in serious trouble. we need another center, and since we have to get another one it should be a sure thing not a maybe for the maybe, because then we maybe screwed. i'n not saying to sign a bad vet. I did say don't get one that is gonna cost 10 mil a year and a 1st round pick to get when the next best will cost 1.4 mil a year and a 7th round pick tops and maybe not cost any picks. the #1 free agent is maybe 15% better than the #2 but costs about 1200% more so #2 is the better investment. he wont be blowing thru a lineman and using him to put a line backer on his ass to open a huge running lane up the middle, but he wont be getting run over or around by the lineman either. he will keep his backs protected, both quarter and half, until they cross the line of scrimmage.

does it really matter? the odds are that at least one of the other 4 starters will be injured and except for wentzel our back up ol is lousy...I think cole was gonna play all 3 spots along the line(c,t,g) during the course of the season if Shipley hadn't gotten hurt.

No our back ups are not "lousy". 5th Rd pick Will Holden played a lot last year as a rookie. And did just fine being thrown into the fire and having to play out of his natural position (guard instead of LT). And when he did play LT he was decent then too. Wetzel is a good versatile back up. And is probably pushing RT Smith to play up to his potential as a vet Tackle. UDFA of last season, Center Daniel Munyer is listed as backup to Cole. Wetzel, Holden, Painter, Boehm all got live game play time last year. And in multiple games as well. Wetzel, Boehm and Painter the year before too. UDFAs Pyke, Weiss, House, and 7th rd pick Cunningham are the X factors. With most likely Cunningham having the edge as he was drafted by this regime. These are the current unknowns. But to flat out declare the O-linemen on this team as "lousy" is premature and really unfounded as well. I know your pessimism and were it comes from, but ease up a bit until you have actual proof Jeff. Okay?

Part of being an adequate o-line in pro football is having starters and backups that can somehow get it done. It's not always pretty but they do enough while up against these growing mismatches on defense. The Cards have some backups on the o-line who gained valuable experience last season in the depths of a scrappy 8-8 bloodbath season.

I promise. Man, that was hard to understand but I'll give it a go breaking it down roughly in the order you said things... - Yes you do improve by practicing, you improve your knowledge of the playbook and understanding with your teammates. It isn't till you put on the pads and play against someone who wants to take your quarterbacks face off that you actually improve as an NFL lineman. Game time is where you will see if players sink or swim. - The goal for the team is to win... But it is a more complex answer than that. The best way to win is to develop players in the draft where you can control their salary so you can also surround them with established talent. If we are going to write off any pick outside the first or second rounds we might as well just trade those picks away for whatever journeyman is on the market. - No, the sole aim isn't to develop Mason Cole and center to the detriment of the team. - Chris Gayle (cricketer for the West Indies, look him up). - Personally I think you are being pretty disrespectful to Cole. The kid has come from Michigan and started every single damn game while he has been there. This isn't App State or Texas Tech but Michigan, under a coach who has coached a team to a SuperBowl. Post draft Wilks said he spoke to people at Michigan and they couldn't speak highly enough of him. Give him at least some respect that he might just be better than some NFL journeyman he gets cut after camp... - No idea what you are waffling on about having 50 rookies or the rest of it to be honest.

did ya see the game? now do you understand why we should go for greg mantcz? like I said, Bradford and rosen's health is more important to the team than a rookies ego. do you really want Glennon behind center any time soon? how many injuries were there tonight? any more questions as to why we need to sign more proven people? because its not the scrubs getting hurt, we need starters, people who can get the job done.

playing time and practice evidently hasn't helped 2nd unit ol A year of training camp wouldn’t be enough for some of those guys. Munyer skipping and bowling the snaps to Rosen was so dissappoitning. Once and you shake it off, but several times now you have a QB worrying about where the snap is going to go before the play even starts. I thought he did ok with all the problems the OL had.
