H alf the old board wanted AQ sent off the field last year. Some wishes do come true. I thought he was a below average player who was a liability as a starter. I did and do want the position upgraded. Not by injury.

JosEPhII, thanks for the stats. I didn't know the Ship missed just 4 snaps. I knew he played all games since 2016. Ship's percentage is an amazing feat and not likely to be repeated by any replacement in waiting.

damned. there goes more cap money. wilks need to have the players take it easy in practice and have players save smash mouth for game days. I understand the league not wanting to exempt ir from the cap because some teams would abuse it but they should find a way to give cap relief if a player is defiantly out for the season. situations like this is why you should always have as much cushion under the cap as you can. every time a backup steps up you need a new backup, its not like anyone is injury proof just because they are the backup. and knee braces should be mandatory for Bradford. the cards have enough money they should be able to get him custom made braces that will be comfortable. hell get braces for the entire team. how many players have we lost to blown out knees? too many. a few hundred thousand for braces is a drop in the bucket if they save a multi million dollar player. and braces wont come out of the salary cap.

I know there are a lot of folks on here that dont like AQ....but he was solid, not a good way to start out........a rookie center,as soon as SB gets hurt a rookie QB,rookie coach....

That doesn’t sound very good for Bradford.

What was the point in drafting Mason Cole if you are going to be on the phone to Boone or Mangold? Crazy thought, Mason Cole who has played at one of the biggest college football programs, in a pro style system, with a HC who is jim harbaugh, might just be good enough to replace what was a below average centre. The point is we just lost our veteran center, the rookie is a 3rd round rookie, we don’t have much of anything behind him, and we have oft-injured Bradford and oft-concussed Rosen as our QBOF. Our Oline is everything for these two pocket passers.

I think Evan Boehm is next up rather than Cole. Cole should be good long term. He was one guy I was really hoping the Cards would draft. But for the start of the season, I think Boehm plays centre, and the Cards reassess as the season progresses. FWIW, I think Boehm long term plays Guard, but for now will help Cole get up to NFL speed.

I think Cole wins the job at Center and holds onto it. A guard like Pugh will help initially and then I think Cole can handle it.

Atm Munyer is listed behind Cole. Boehm needs to get some Reps at Center now too instead of just guard.
Too bad the Main site can't update itself with relevant info on depth chart, Injuries, etc. I think it's went downhill from previous years.

I'm curious how many rookie centers have performed in the NFL at a high level (or even adequately). Looking at the history of just a few centers I see at least a couple years of sporadic starting before taking over full time. I would feel better if there were some notable precedents... are there any? How about the Pouncey brothers.

looks like greg mantcz from Houston would be the best free agent to sign, he's a ufa with an original round tender but was undrafted so the Texans might get our last round pick in next years draft. he's the back up center but started all 16 reg season games and 2 playoff games in 2016. the starting center came back last year so he was moved to guard where he did not do as well last year. but we need him at center where he does his best work.
there is only one free agent center rated higher, matt paradis of the broncos but he would cost us our 2nd round pick next year to sign. matt has started every game for the last 3 years and regressed last year playing with injured hips which he had surgery on in the off season but is negotiating with Denver for a long term contract who placed a 2nd round tender on him so they aren't going to let him go cheap, unless they know his hip is still bad and are looking to snooker someone out of a #2 pick. and if vegas is right and we do have the worst record this tear our #2 is basically a late round #1 pick where we could get a good center with the cheap rookie contract and save millions in cap space and have am amchor for the line that is gonna last 10 more years not just 3-6 years. matt is 28 and would be 32 at the end of a 4 year contract. Denver let him start every game last year even hobbled by bad hips that required surgery so they are probably going to match any reasonable offer so it would take an over paid contract to get him in addition to losing the possible equlivant late 1st round pick. I think he's too expensive.
mat is tendered at 4.8 and negotiating for even higher. greg is tendered at only 1.4 mill and costs only our last pick if even that.
or we could hope there is a quality center cut later in camp for salary cap reasons. but we do need to get a reliable backup or starter. if we don't we could get our qbs retired the hard way. you know defenses are going to target the perceived weak link which is gonna be the rookie backup forced to start. you rattle him and there's a good chance he puts the ball on the ground for you and his replacement is not even going to be as good as he is. defenses are going to be eyeing not even letting the quarterback get the ball, free turn overs. we need atleast a threat that if you remove the rookie from the game his replacement is gonna be capable.
