Getting back to training camp... It sounds like they were running a lot of two back sets today with the fullback up front. Wilks also threw in some one on one drills in front of everyone, such as Chandler Jones vs Humphries. Lots of emphasis on physicality and beating your guy on the other side of the line. 1 on 1 drills in the NFL are more about coaching technique than anything else. Hand, arm and elbow placement, footwork and balance are the fundamentals here.

Cards have brought in LB Gerald Hodges today for a workout according to reports -- in 2014-2016 he averaged over 70 tackles/season but was relegated in 2017 as a special teams standout for the Saints.
IMO Cards need LB depth because of the new helmet rule I am worried that LB's and safeties will be the leading positions for game suspensions.

Really love how Wilks started padded practice with Oklahoma drills. 1 v 1 blocking with everyone watching.
Thats stupendous.
Its not your normal blocking drill. When the whole team is watching, it becomes near-game speed intense.

zaz that could turn into a battle of egos. that will result in harder hits and more power used in practice. it could lead to knockout blows rather than pulling punches for practice and saving it for game day. and its not like we have a history of being an injury free team even with camp cupcake.

New sheriff in town. Building his football team. It’s going to be a complete change to the in passing scheme. Dink n dunk with lots of screens. Quick passes, and run the ball up the middle.

Just heard from 98.7 something I have been pleading to happen for 4 yrs .... DJ Humphries told Paul Calvisi of 98.7 that the blocking schemes have been dramatically - SIMPLIFIED !!!!!!!!! I have been haranguing about this for a long time and really believe Cooper - Dorian Johnson - Boehm (??) etc... might have failed because they were thinking and not playing football with natural instincts due to BA/Goodwin's complicated blocking schemes which included always leaving tackles on an island alone.
The more I see what this coaching staff is doing the more I really believe the Cards could be one of the biggest surprises in the NFL. Heck if Special Teams could just go from last to middle of the pack the team should be able to win 8-9 games.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Calvisi on 98.7 talked about in the 2nd padded practice Wilks put Nkemdiche vs. Pugh and on the first snap Nkemdiche abused/stunned Pugh. Calvisi stated this was the best one-on-one get-off/power he's seen from him in any of the first 3 yrs. I realize this is practice but last year they talked about Nkemdiche abusing Boehm in practice so beating Pugh is a whole different level. It should be mentioned that the 2nd snap saw Pugh fight hard to keep Nkemdiche somewhat neutralized.
So far I like everything I am hearing about how the coaching staff is treating training camp -- practices early in the morning so there won't be an excuse when the Cards play East Coast games.

Agree! I have felt that we had too many like your examples cast aside too quickly only because of our coaches and the system in use then.
