www.azfamily.com/story/38755585/cardinals-coach-wilks-opens-camp-with-star-rb-without-gmSome may have read this article or heard the info from local broadcasts...FYSA...at least this team news is better than the police blotter stuff early in the month! "Cardinals President Michael Bidwill doesn’t often speak to the media but he took the opportunity to do so after the players reported and went through their conditioning test. Bidwill said that, as far as he knew, it was the largest penalty ever for a driving under the influence incident by someone connected to the NFL. “I came down hard on him and he knew that was going to be the case in the early conversations (after the arrest),” Bidwill said. “I think it’s important for everybody now in this day and age there’s no excuse to drink and drive. We have Lyft, we have Uber, and there are consequences for the person to be arrested. People can be hurt or killed.” Quarterback Sam Bradford was excused from Friday’s run test but is expected to be a full participant, as the No. 1 quarterback, when workouts begin Saturday. Bradford was brought along slowly in offseason workouts as he works his way back from a knee injury that wiped out nearly all of his season a year ago. Rookie Josh Rosen has been praised for his offseason work and will be competing with Mike Glennon for the backup job.

Must still be some concern with Bradford’s knee if they excused him from running. Doesn’t look like he will be scrambling much in games. Rosen may get his chance sooner than later.

I would be concerned with his knees too - if I were coach or other person with responsibility. But consider that Palmer was not exactly a scrambler either, and we did fairly well when he had time to pass. Therefore, the less wear and tear on the knees the better for our present circumstances.
The main concern I still have is the OL regardless of who the QB may be, so as the sacrificial lamb with talent, Bradford will do for as long as he can last. I hope.

It was just a precaution. Wilks made the call not to have him run. Sam said his knee feels really good and that the off season program has worked well.
This is much to do about nothing.

There was mandatory synchronized stretching both before practice started and again at the end of practice.

We went to the open practice today and was a part of a special engagement with guest speakers Michael Bidwill and Steve Wilks.
First, I walked away from today very impressed with the way Michael handled the question and answer period. He wanted to address the elephant in the room (Steve Keim). Other than that, he was excited about this year and I felt like he was just talking with the guys!
Second, I originally wasn’t that impressed with the Steve Wilks hiring. I thought he could be qualified but communication and delivery was rehearsed to me. Well today, not so much. He was very impressive and I enjoyed the opportunity to hear him unscripted. He has changed my mind so far. Let’s hope he can be a great coach.
Lastly, we are only going to be as good as we can by staying healthy. Bradford in my opinion showed he was a more prepared QB over Rosen. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited about Rosen being our guy for the future and he can really spin the ball better than any of the QBs but he isn’t ready. There were times during passing plays that he showed hesitation and was late on throws (one being intercepted by a great play by Ford I think). It seemed like he took too long going through progressions and he stared down his first or second option.
I’d be interested if others felt the same way about Rosen. Not sure if I was being too critical or my expectations for him were too high. Like I said, he can spin the ball and I’m excited about his future if he gets his opportunity next year or the year after.

Thanks for the report from camp..hopefully others will chime in

Q - from the photos ive seen, have they limited the seating even more this year? Its looks very squished in. I remember 5 years ago, the entire lower bowl was open. And then slowly its getting roped off to a smaller section. And the photos this year looks like theres only 3 or 4 sections across. I hate sitting close to people

Hopefully, Bradford plays good this year so we can trade him for a good price.

I concur with your observations regarding Rosen being hesitant and taking his time going through his progressions. He will hopefully improve and become more comfortable, and quicker in his decision making, as he progresses through training camp and the preseason games.

It was mainly middle sections on both sides except they had the 2nd level open by invite only. Interesting enough, they didn’t have the field pushed into the normal position and the north side of the stadium was a lower level with AstroTurf. Guess it allows for more practice space and different conditions.

I went to the az cards 1st ever practice and there were no seats, just standing along the sides of a dead grass field while the stretched and started cone drills. we had the wide bodys and I was surprised how fast some of those fat boys could move. 4 players passed out from the heat so it only last about 15-20 minuets and they didn't even finish the cone drills. didn't see anyone other than vai sikahema even touch a foot ball and that's only because stallings handed it to him saying "the question isn't can we afford a return specialist who does nothing else, the question is can we afford to not have him" last thing I heard stalling say as we were all leaving was "damned, I thought it got hot in st louis. these boys gotta learn to drink water" you sir have been pampered to the point you are spoiled. and to finish the parents cure "when you grow up I hope you have kids just like you" lol

In fact, that was the closest you got to players. There was the practice field. Then the sidelines with players. Then 20 feet of grass, and then crowd watching. I coudlve thrown a papercup at Docketts head I was so close. There wasnt even a barrier. It was just a security guard asking people to back up. With the stadium, theres no good reason to keep constricting it. I understand limiting it to 1 side to control trash (which IDK why people cant just pick up after themselves), but when you have a very small area open for seating, that also means a very small area for autographs. And thats the 1 gripe I have thats 100% valid. The autograph arrangement is horrendous. Not for me, I dont care about that. But kids do. Maybe 15 kids at the rail get an autograph. Everyone else is screwed. They should go back to the tables before practice.

I would, as would any NFL evaluator, respectfully disagree with this comment. in fact I will tell you that you can count on 2-3 FINGERS how many, IF ANY NFL QB's can "spin it " better than Sam Bradford. His one and ONLY issue is health. He is light years better than any QB on this roster, period. And his arm is in the top 3-4 in the league, and I am being generous.
