www.azdot.gov/motor-vehicles/driver-services/driver-improvement/duiPer AZDOT, if the detected substance was alcohol, and I assume that is the case here, Steve Keim has a mandatory jail sentence of 10 consecutive days, and maybe a fine, education class, car lock, etc. The team has to train employees on AZ DUI and DWI laws. Maybe the GM skipped class that day. For a hi-viz millionaire, jail time hurts the ego the most. Other NFL staff members have received mandatory jail time but have been given work release, which is typical for employed offenders in AZ. He’d have to wear an ankle bracelet and be home at certain hours, or at worst check into a facility at bedtime for 10 days. DH, I didn't see any leniency mentioned in the AZDOT law. Although a judge has much discretion to release certain citizens for a job, family, vacation plans, etc.

I’m on the fence about firing Keim. I concur with all here it’s an idiot move especially for a man in his position. If he was blitzed I think the organization has to move on considering the importance & face of the FO. If Bidwill decides to retain Keim then Bidwill should fine him (at least probably 2) 1 years salery (in addition to NFL fines) it can be donated to a cause that assists victims of drunk driving or something to the effect. This would put a good PR spin & so Bidwill & Keim are more than serious about addressing the issue. Also it MAY get Keim some credibility back wherever he left it when he got pulled over.

Checkpoints are very effective at catching all kinds of driver and vehicle problems. Everybody know that! Everybody!!!! Why are you shouting at me? I didn't give SK a drink.
And we need more info before we All go off the rails over this one.

Beyond dumb. In today’s age of Uber and Lyft I just don’t get this. This. Mind numbingly . If I'm Mike Bidwill I call him in and ask "can you describe to me the reason(s) why I shouldn't fire you?" and see what he comes up with. He just cost ownership a lot of money and I don't know if he can or should be saved on this. How does he go on his Tuesday morning radio chat and talk about accountability?

When i got this text today i almost cried ...this Club is truly cursed....we have the best draft one could hope for and then BAM..knocked back to earth...i`m like Thomas cat..the circumstances and alcohol amount are Huge ..we just need to hear more before we slam the toilet lid......as much money as this dude make and he can`t call a cab? i just don`t get it......When i said a couple weeks age that we needed somebody to do something for forum fodder......this is not what i had in mind ....................SCAT! If I had to make a decision right now I'd fire him and start over....again. It would send a huge signal that the Cardinals are the leader in a single standard for the players and the executives. Everybody is replaceable, Keim is no different. Frankly he's simply to be an NFL GM if he can't get it together to order up an Uber on a day when the cops make it clear they're on the hunt.
Somewhere, Michael Floyd is laughing.

Exactly my first thought after hearing about SK. For all his accolades, I'm not so sure that he is anywhere near infallible or even good at his job. IF, and that is a big IF, there is anyone else in the organization who can step up to that position and do a decent job of it, then perhaps firing SK would be one way to prove that Mike Bidwill means business when it comes to accountability... for everyone in the organization, top to bottom. I don't mean to parrot your post here - just agreeing and adding to it.

Seriously, in the hour or so since I wrote the post I'm more convinced that Bidwill needs to just pull the plug. Sometimes decisions are easy, and if a guy can't grasp that there's zero room for error then he's simply to hold the job. I guess in my old age and after several decades of being paranoid about not screwing up my professional status my black, dead heart doesn't have any room for leniency on this.

Heh heh heh - wanna start a Blackheart Society? There may be a few potential members here already - - -
I'm not sure what the best thing would be, yet. Leaning toward reduction in rank/cancelling the recent contract extension/put him back in scouting. I would not be upset to see him go, IF there is someone ready to step in and not lose a beat - but not convinced that person is now in the org. I would guess there is no cross-training program or being done at this level anyway, so it could mean some new hire at a very late date in the action this year. I do think that something significant is due for his action, regardless how severe the DUI is. Gotta send the message to all Cardinals that stupidity won't be tolerated or rewarded. (black heart alert:) We did enough of that with BA, IMO.

I have never driven drunk but I think acting like we are perfect is a little silly. Do I think he is an idiot for not calling an uber in 2018 with money being no object to him, YES! People screw up. Why do we hold people in the nfl to a higher standard then ourselves?...they aren't special. He will pay the price via the legal system and then be punished accordingly by the team, seems like that should be enough, no need to fire a good gm. Just my .02 cents 🙃

The Cards, Keim, MB all have to find a way to get this worked out. A firing or resignation would absolutely devastate this team and be the ultimate distraction throughout the season. Hopefully it will all be handled in house and the NFL won't suspend Keim. This is a time where MB needs to show his faith in Keim. Punish, forgive and move on because too much has been built to tear it down. Keim might have had his best draft with getting Rosen and Kirk. This is their chance to win that Championship. But that's all bye bye if Keim gets fired or resigns.

I like the suggestion knobby had on the other Keim thread: I vote no. BUT: void his recent contract upgrade/renewal and review him at the end of the original contract period.
AND/OR reduce him in rank - which is to say back to scouting as head scout or whatever. Let him work his way back up, or resign. IMO, Mike B has been more than fair with his staff and players, perhaps too much so - and it is time to be strict for good reason.
A suspension of his contract extension and a probationary period would fit the crime if the BAC is 'low' enough in the opinion of the NFL/MB. If the BAC is 'moderately high' a demotion and probation might be a fit. If its Michael Floyd level BAC (which it probably isn't since Keim wasn't arrested), then of course you fire him. The key thing is, the public believes this is a first offense... who knows privately though.

He should not be fired and the punishment should fit the BAC, which I suspect will be lower than .08. Under Arizona law you can be charged with DUI even for .01 BAC.
