We’ve signed Pats LB Mack Wilson Sr, the first signing that is potentially interesting to me. He was good last year but hasn’t had consistency. Pats wanted to sign him to a three year deal before he tested the market. I think we have drafted and signed enough LB's the past year or two. We need to start signing above average defensive starters.

Well, Monday’s free agency reminded me a lot of our 2023 free agency. No big splashes. Depth signings. That’s what I wanted to see last year, because it made sense to clean up our contracts and cap situation for 2024, while our QB1 was out injured and our GM and coaches were rookies.
This year should be different. We’ve signed no difference makers. Maybe a starting level LB and CB2/nickel CB.
Keeping the powder dry, or just a very conservative GM?
A few difference maker Dline guys remain, Reader and Armstead. Hunter and Young at Edge. Ridley at WR. Fuller at CB. OT Trent Brown. LB Queen.
We need some defensive difference makers.

Kyle Odegard grades our Monday:
F for DT Justin Jones D for CB Sean Murphy-Bunting A for DT Nichols A for LB Mack Wilson
I’d go F Jones, C Murphy-Bunting, C- Nichols, B Wilson. I hope I’m wrong on Nichols.

Moss, the RB I was interested in to back up and one day replace Conner. Not getting a single one of my guys. 🤣 Only $4 million a year, 2 years, when all these RBs are getting paid. And he’s a stud. And 26 yrs old. Leonard Williams back to Seattle as well. I’m 0-14 in free agency so far!

I hope I’m wrong on Nichols. I think DT J Jones is being under rated. Who will currently be AZ’s best DL player? Jones IMO. Over 300 LBs with good height…about 50 tackles 36 pressures and 5 sacks. Part of a DL in 2022 who were one of the worse to 2023 that was one of the best. Add Nichols who is solid and close to 300 LBs who is a run stop specialist who can plat all three DL spots it is a definate improvement at the weakest roster position. Low grade for Jones is a C. Bunting is also under rated…he is best at zone and not as good at man to man…JG runs a ton of zone. Fit has to elevate this move higher than a D. Four players who are in the 4-5 year area as per experience who as a group can play 2000-2500 snaps and elevate the floor. Looks like the draft is the primary place to get the starters.

Look back at the last couple years and the roster disasters. The Practice Squad probably saved the team from a zero-win season in 2023.

x.com/sharpfootball/status/1767340217206235185?s=61We’ve spent a lot because of four 3 year contracts. I sure hope a few of these guys work out as starters. They clearly wanted and targeted these four, with the signings announced day 1. We are going to learn something about our talent evaluators with these four.

Hard to find good return man rankings, but I’m finding Dallas around 23rd while Rondale Moore is around 14th. Moving on from Moore? I expect he’s just special teams depth, and they don’t want Dortch and Moore doing as many returns.
