Lets face it. If Bradford goes down I think so do any chance at the playoffs. So what is the use of keeping Glennon around ? Give those starts to Rosen and speed up his development. That way you also can keep Karnoff. You know the kid is smart. You don't get into any Ivy league school on just a sports scholarship. You have to have the smarts also. If he develops into a good back up who can win you some games then you have 2 young QBs. Then you have a choice. Either keep him around for as long as you can or trade him like the Pats did for some extra high draft choices.
If it was me. I cut Glennon after another game or two. See if Karnoff keeps producing. If he does you have a nice QB room. Glennon isn't going to get you to the playoffs if Bradford goes down. I doubt Rosen would either. Simply being a rookie QB, and seeing all the complicated defenses he will face. If Karnoff keeps producing, Glennon is just excess baggage in the QB room. It's either a shot at the playoffs with Bradford, or a developmental season with Rosen. Glennon just doesn't fit anymore. Either try and trade him for a 6th rounder or simply cut him. Either way the Cards are on the hook for his money. I mean do you actually believe we have a shot at the playoffs WITH Bradford?

Mason Cole got bullrushed on the 3rd and 2 and touchdown. I hope he improves over the next few weeks of preseason. CJ, your hopes will be fulfilled. A rookie Lineman getting mauled early in his career is normal. Then one day, it all changes for him (e.g., more experience, strength, teamwork). Bet the house that Cole will watch the post-game videos and improve his techniques at future games. He's a smart kid.

How did the coaching staff do? I admit I didn't pay much attention to the sidelines. I do give Wilks big credit for having the staff and players ready for PS1 and for Wilks demonstrating that he knows how to manage a home game and a few refs to a degree. Some rookie HCs can really struggle the first days at the helm. At least Wilks didn't embarrass anyone. imho wilks erred by leaving munyer in...the bad snaps made if difficult to see if rosen could play and the experience didnt help rosen unless he wants to play shortstop...tight ends caught some balls...maybe in mccoys offense Gresham will earn his paycheck...I suspect McCoy will keep offense pretty vanilla throughout preseason...defense was more aggressive than I expected

They put Rosen's future at risk by putting him in position to get badly hurt. It was gross negligence. Not a good start for the new OC and HC.

Can you imagine Whiz "the system works" in the same situation? imho wilks erred by leaving munyer in...the bad snaps made if difficult to see if rosen could play and the experience didnt help rosen unless he wants to play shortstop...tight ends caught some balls...maybe in mccoys offense Gresham will earn his paycheck...I suspect McCoy will keep offense pretty vanilla throughout preseason...defense was more aggressive than I expected That was my biggest takeaway. Also I dont believe this has been mentioned yet...........................................
There was 12 total passes thrown (yes, so few)......5 of them went to TE's. 41% of passes went to a TE.
I was wondering if Mike Mccoy, who coached Antonio Gates in SD, and Julius Thomas in Denver, would use TE's more.
Yes he does.

Anyone else notice JJ Nelson dropping yet another catch-able ball? (I am pretty sure that was JJ that dropped the pass from Rosen?)

The only way I can see a small, fast WR being valuable for a roster spot on this offense is if he was useful on special teams (returner) and had great hands while running crisp routes using speed to get separation and yards after catch. JJ can get separation going deep on a 40 yard dash but his hands have just never been great. I haven’t seen enough evidence of using speed and shiftiness to get wide open short or middle, or luck on swing passes using speed to get down themfirst line of defense. He goes down on contact. I just don’t see it. I read John Brown is doing well in Baltimore as a deep threat. Good for him...I like that kid.

I just read that Smoke is tearing it up in Baltimore. Probably because they aren't throwing any jump ball fades to him in the corner of the end zone.

My ideal as soon as we knew Carson was retiring was a vet mentor (I wanted McCown or Bradford) on a short term contract as 2018 QB1, to trade up for one of the top three rookie QBs, and then a young QB3 who still had some potential. Thrilled with what we got. Ideally, Bradford could have been a bit cheaper but the market was what it was. We are only on the hook 1 year, and being the good guy he is, the talent he is when healthy, and the style QB he is he is perfect for a year of development for Rosen. I love that Rosen immediately sees him as better than himself on the field, someone he can learn from as a professional. Rosen is the type of guy who needs to be led by people he respects as better and more knowledgeable than himself. If I could change one thing about QB3 (a minor quibble) it would be my original desire to take a low risk gamble on trying to pry Chad Kelly from the Broncos. He looked great the other night and will likely already get elevated to QB2 there. He hasn’t caused any trouble since his draft and has all the tools. Glennon, however, is of the same QB mold...a pocket passer...as Sam and Josh, so made a whole lot of sense. He will likely back up Rosen next year, Sam will be somewhere else, and we will have a very inexpensive QB room. Might want to keep that kid who played the fourth quarter for us around as QB3 2019...he actually looked decent. I remember you posting that, and I liked the idea, especially after we missed out on Mahomes. Looks like Chad is moving up over in Denver. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/08/13/chad-kelly-finally-gets-second-team-reps/

Glad that he played well last week and that he's moved ahead of Paxton on the depth chart. Maybe Chad will now stick at #2 and see a few first team reps at PS. P
