We are ONE preseason game in. Slow down Sally. Glennon has a body of work in the NFL. Better stats then Drew Stanton. Just didnt have a coach who loved him so much. When the QB's start dropping Glennon could POSSIBLY have some value. Even for our team considering the perilous history of Bradford. Glenon isn't going anywhere. TB and RG3 are the next guys moved if someone of value goes down. They both make a fraction of what Glennon is making and they both have taken NFL teams to the playoffs and are miles better. They are both signed to 1 year deals at a fraction of Glennons price. I would have loved to sign TB at the price the Jets got him. The risk reward for TB on the upside was incredible. For the record: Teddy Bridgewater ( 1yr contract) QB $5,000,000 $500,000 Signing - - $500,000 Workout - - ($500,000) $6,000,000 Robert Griffin III ( 1yr contract) QB $1,000,000 $100,000 Signing - - - - - ($100,000) $1,100,000 Mike Glennon (2 yr contract) QB $1,000,000 $1,000,000 Signing - - - - - ($4,000,000) $2,000,000

TB has a dead cap hit of 500k. Glennon 4 Million and RG3 dead cap is 100K.

My ideal as soon as we knew Carson was retiring was a vet mentor (I wanted McCown or Bradford) on a short term contract as 2018 QB1, to trade up for one of the top three rookie QBs, and then a young QB3 who still had some potential. Thrilled with what we got. Ideally, Bradford could have been a bit cheaper but the market was what it was. We are only on the hook 1 year, and being the good guy he is, the talent he is when healthy, and the style QB he is he is perfect for a year of development for Rosen. I love that Rosen immediately sees him as better than himself on the field, someone he can learn from as a professional. Rosen is the type of guy who needs to be led by people he respects as better and more knowledgeable than himself.
If I could change one thing about QB3 (a minor quibble) it would be my original desire to take a low risk gamble on trying to pry Chad Kelly from the Broncos. He looked great the other night and will likely already get elevated to QB2 there. He hasn’t caused any trouble since his draft and has all the tools. Glennon, however, is of the same QB mold...a pocket passer...as Sam and Josh, so made a whole lot of sense. He will likely back up Rosen next year, Sam will be somewhere else, and we will have a very inexpensive QB room. Might want to keep that kid who played the fourth quarter for us around as QB3 2019...he actually looked decent.

An encouraging sign - which probably means he will be cut or put on the PS and picked off by another team. Oh wait, I was thinking how it worked with the prior regime so maybe there is still hope. I'd like to see more of him in action during the next couple of games, but have a warm feeling about his chances of sticking with the Cards. I like to see the underdog succeed.

I liked the running game with the 1st team and the first team D was solid. I didn't like that the final score was 24-17. All those big plays, turnovers on D and you barely win. Still more lapses making Geno Smith look like a star. 2nd team o-line stunk to high heavens.

I would keep the rookie QB from Princeton off the field for the remaining pre-season games and then hope he gets to the practice squad. I saw enough in his accuracy that he might be a keeper. I don't see him as a starter any time soon because he has a relatively slow release.

How did the coaching staff do? I admit I didn't pay much attention to the sidelines. I do give Wilks big credit for having the staff and players ready for PS1 and for Wilks demonstrating that he knows how to manage a home game and a few refs to a degree. Some rookie HCs can really struggle the first days at the helm. At least Wilks didn't embarrass anyone.

Glennon is sticking around whether we like it or not. Bradford is way too fragile not to have another veteran on the roster. If SB goes down, I fully expect Rosen to start and Glennon to be his backup. It's too bad he looked lost out there last night.
I'm thinking Kanoff could be the Backup-QBoF for the cardinals, someone who can be similar to Drew Stanton and win some games during the season if Rosen was out for only a few games. That might not be the case this year or even next year, but by 2020 we might only need to have a 2 QB room if both Rosen and Kanoff prove to be good players and healthy!
Getting away from quarterbacks... I thought our kicker Dawson and our punter Lee did really well last night. It's basically a lock that Lee makes the team, but Dawson looks like he might have competition in McCrane.
The long snapper Brewer did good too.
Cap Capi needs to repeat that same performance 3 more times this pre season to have a chance at making this roster. I'm not saying he needs 3 sacks and a FF every time, but consistent pressure has to be... consistent when competing with the likes of Dora, Smith, and Mayowa. I think he can do it.
TJ Logan did not impress this time around like last year at the HoF game (which I attended). He still has time to impress since the RB room behind Edmonds looks barren.
Backup O-Lineman looked bad, what more can be said? Something needs to change roster-wise.
Christian Kirk had a chance to score a ST touchdown but instead he tried to juke the punter at a full sprint and tripped over himself. He didn't do much after that to redeem himself. He looks like another 1-3 year project WR with a #2 star ceiling. We're still going to need to find a true number 1 post-fitz.
The TE's were used only sometimes, but they were used effectively when targeted. I think one of them caught a TD by Kanoff? There's still a lot more to be seen of this offense's use of tight ends.

Mason Cole got bullrushed on the 3rd and 2 and touchdown. I hope he improves over the next few weeks of preseason.

Lets face it. If Bradford goes down I think so do any chance at the playoffs. So what is the use of keeping Glennon around ? Give those starts to Rosen and speed up his development. That way you also can keep Karnoff. You know the kid is smart. You don't get into any Ivy league school on just a sports scholarship. You have to have the smarts also. If he develops into a good back up who can win you some games then you have 2 young QBs. Then you have a choice. Either keep him around for as long as you can or trade him like the Pats did for some extra high draft choices.
If it was me. I cut Glennon after another game or two. See if Karnoff keeps producing. If he does you have a nice QB room. Glennon isn't going to get you to the playoffs if Bradford goes down. I doubt Rosen would either. Simply being a rookie QB, and seeing all the complicated defenses he will face. If Karnoff keeps producing, Glennon is just excess baggage in the QB room. It's either a shot at the playoffs with Bradford, or a developmental season with Rosen. Glennon just doesn't fit anymore. Either try and trade him for a 6th rounder or simply cut him. Either way the Cards are on the hook for his money.
