Charlie Trippi and Kyler Murray would be good friends if both were on the team today.

Yea! Jackie Smith, extraordinary TE and part-time punter for the ersatz STL Cards! Didn't the Cardinals great and retiree Jackie Smith then sign with Tom Landry and the fast-rising Cowboys at NFL career stop #2? Anyway, Danny White and Jackie Smith had great opportunities v. the Steelers. But, there would be no end zone catch for Jackie Smith and no Dallas comeback win v. the Steelers. Jackie Smith ended his second career 5 points short of a SB ring. That is the only game I can now remember rooting for the Cowpokes! Felt so bad for Jackie.

Jackie Smith ended his second career 5 points short of a SB ring. That is the only game I can now remember rooting for the Cowpokes! Felt so bad for Jackie. I remember that play like it was yesterday, and just like you, the only time I ever rooted for the Cowboys. That has to be most heartbreaking play by any current or former Cardinal ever. I can't even imagine what that was like for him. He is one of my top 3 or 4 Cardinals of all time for many reasons, so I almost hesitate to post this video because it's so hard to watch. And like the title says "he's got to be the sickest man in America"
linkHere is a very good article about him and that play....here is an excerpt from that article. Its right at the top and it is probably the most important part. " After all these years, he realized that drop or no drop, he's still the luckiest guy in the world."
Sometimes things just happen and there is not a darn thing you can do about. I'm so glad he has come to peace with that. Here is the article... Jackie Smith talks extensively about the drop that almost ruined his life

Bobby Moore, one of the good players who got away. In an effort to get a QB we traded for Dennis Shaw.

Pro Bowler Larry Wilson - 1970 Following his NFL player retirement, Larry Wilson was hired by Bidwill to be GM, 1988-1993. That did not work out well for the Cardinals. Wilson was good at playing defense, and just average at playing general manager. LW continued serving as a team Vice President until he retired from the team in 2003. He passed away at the age of 82 in Sept 2020.

Thanks for the picture.....and providing the names.
The only person I recognized visually is Jackie Smith.
I'm old any my memory is not always good, but of the names mentioned, these are the ones I remember the most.
Jakie Smith, Irv Goode, Mel Gray, Bob Rowe, Johnny Roland, Bob DeMarco, and Ron Yankowski.
Of those names, and not counting Mel Gray or Jakie Smith, Johny Roland and Ron Yankowski were among my favorites. Both were hardnosed guys that came to play the game as best they could. Fond memories there.

Old number 72. DD worked in the booth for the University of Michigan for three years, then called it a second career in 2021. He walked away from football for good using two hand canes. The game he loved finally took him down.
