I have heard nothing about Gaines. The team posts nothing about him. Is he still alive? “At the NFL combine, general manager Monti Ossenfort said of Gaines, “Jon was off to a good start and unfortunately, we keep coming back to these injuries. It’s too bad. But Jon is doing well. Jon is doing really well. He’s in the building every day. He’s rehabbing with us onsite. I love Jon. Jon’s got a good future ahead of him. It was unfortunate with that injury happening in the third preseason game. But he’s making progress, he’s grinding through his rehab and we’re excited to get to a point where we can get him back out on the field.”” It's good that Gaines is back in the building and rehab'ing with teammates. I think he went home for many months and laid low. I couldn't find Gaines in the news, not even in the hometown news. He disappeared completely. The injury likely affected him emotionally. I would have high expectations. Then wham, I'm out of the game. That would hurt.

"Former" LT? I thought he was a "Restricted FA" at NYJ. I also don't get this signing by PHI. As a 1st Rd pick in 2020, did he not pan out at NYJ?

Cardinals not picking up Collins 5th year option.

Cardinals not picking up Collins 5th year option. This Ossenfort decision is not a surprise to me. Gannon and Rallis needs a 1st Rd LB that can think and execute fast. Right now, Cal Thomas is ranked higher than Collins (see PFF). Also, Collin's 5th year option would cost the GM about of $11-12 million against the CAP. Collins (1st Rd, 2021) will be 25 yo soon. Collins is in the sweet spot as LB but not yet performing on the field at the expected level of a 1st Rd pick. The 2023 DC experiment has improved Collins output and value to the defense. Collins has a ways to go to get a new contract in 2024/2025. It still can happen but he's got to do a lot better between the ears. The Collins situation is similar to decision on Simmons (1st Rd, 2020) that resulted in him being traded to the NYG for a 7th round pick a year ago. Simmons is doing okay with the NYG today. He's surviving. www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/isaiah-simmons-trade-grades-giants-acquire-former-top-10-pick-from-cardinals-to-bolster-defense/LB is one of the hardest jobs on Defense. The job requires peak athleticism, vicious power, and perfect judgment concentrated on the point of attack--and all done at exceptionally high speed. Collins (6'4" and 260-ish lbs) has the right physical gifts to be a LB. At times, the offense easily exploits Collins' decision-making.

I also like how the new regime is clearing out players who they believe dont fit their system. Simmons was a bad draft pick, so was Collins. Now you can argue, maybe if they had better coaching under the last regime, maybe they would of done better. I remember Simmons hardly playing in favor of the vets. But the bottom line is, I believe it was the right decision to get rid of Simmons and to not pick up Collins 5th year option. Really like how the new regime is clearing house and starting over with a young hungry core of players. Even in FA they didnt try to pay up for a player who probably wouldnt help this team anyway and just kept it simple with good depth guys who actually stay healthy. The big names will come. I stick by my original assessment and say this rebuild should be pretty good in another 2-3 years. Just takes time and even more time with this organization due to a lot of bad contracts, cleaning up the payroll and getting rid of players that they feel dont fit in this system. They also have to change the locker room rep. From what I had read, under KK there wasnt much accountability and players just could do whatever they wanted. Not a really good locker room, at times toxic. So new regime cleaning that up as well. Would be nice to be a destination for players who want to come play for.

SCF, we agree, Collins is probably on his way out the door. I would also not be surprised if he is traded before the 2024 season begins, thus saving more CAP $$. Maybe Ossenfort can get another 7th rounder from some GM. About the locker room, I remember how Kingsbury ran things. He asked the "Captains" to lead. When Kingsbury slapped a "C" on the chest of Murray, I was floored. Murray acted like a child often. Sometimes tradition (automatically making the QB a Captain) has to be ignored. Putting a "C" on the QB's jersey doesn't make anyone a leader. The man first has to be a leader and the players already know if he is a leader. During Kingsbury's reign, there were other players in the locker room who were selfish and self-centered. Kingsbury put up with the BS, maybe because of GM Keim being his boss and telling Kingsbury to figure out how to win with the players Keim brought to the roster. Anyway, I'm glad that GM Ossenfort and HC Gannon are resetting the roster with "Team First" players, enforcing accountability rules, and demanding hustle. The Cardinals team is a work in progress. After Collins, more former #1 draft picks might go away. Until we know if QB Murray can lead, he's on notice as well. In 2023, he got a bye due to the ACL injury. There will be no bye in 2024. In early 2025 we will know Murray's future as a Cardinals QB.

Why is this pinned thread here? The thread is increasingly important as the team completes TC and PS actions. When initially 'pinned,' the purpose of the 'pin' was to ensure members could find new roster information quickly. I recommend the 'pin' continue until the weekend of Game 1.
