Hollywood to the Chiefs. So, who will be our #2 WR? Wilson, Dortch or another pick in the draft after the top WR they draft. *You didn’t really think Hollywood was coming back did you?The thought never crossed my mind. It was just a matter of when, not if.

We seem to be going with the “rotate fresh guys in” policy for the Dline again. Quantity over quality.

Quantity over quality. vikingswire.usatoday.com/2024/03/15/arizona-cardinals-sign-dt-khyiris-tonga-to-one-year-deal/I generally like the South Pacific pedigree players. These guys have blocky bodies and fill gaps. Some can move fast. However, Tonga did not impress coaches at MIN 2022-2023. Why? Because the MIN roster was stacked, or Tonga lacked something? He gets a new start at ARZ in 2024. This 1-year contract is likely his last chance to impress new coaches at OTAs, TC, and 3 PS games. If he survives all that and makes the 53-man roster, good. Good luck, Khyiris.

Good luck, Khyiris. I remember Tonga from the draft cycle in 2021 and thought then he was a decent NT prospect. Looking back I am somewhat surprised he dropped to the seventh-round. I don't know if I would actually run the play in a game but if I Gannon and we end up signing a second Jonah Williams when I'm putting in a play where defensive Jonah lines up next to left tackle Jonah and reports is eligible just for fun.

Competition for backup with Colon, Ismael and Gaines II. Don’t sleep on Gaines II, who we drafted in the 4th round last year but was then injured.

Cap numbers are in for almost all our free agent moves. Williams $6.6 million, Jones $6.5 million, Murphy-Bunting $6 million, Nichols $5 million, Wilson $3.4 million, Dallas $2 million. All these guys are 26-28 years old. I haven’t been thrilled with the signings, especially at the beginning of free agency. Looking back and seeing the pattern here, I’m beginning to understand the plan. Aside from Jonah Williams filling the hole left by DHump’s injury, these aren’t instant starter signings, but all are guys who could crack the starting lineup at their peak ages. No contracts are longer than three years and none would cause major cap issues if they didn’t work out. They provide true depth. Others have pointed out the durability most of these free agents have as part of their resumes.
Monti is giving durable, young vets a shot.
The contracts have been structured for low cap hits this year. Check Sportrac or OTC and you’ll notice all but Jonah Williams’ contracts are pretty easy to get out of in two years if they don’t work out, with little dead cap. Because of this, we still have the 7th most available cap space remaining, at $29 million. We could also increase our cap $15 million with a trade of Budda, $3 million by releasing Gardeck, $1.9 million releasing Pascal, etc. In other words, we have plenty of opportunity to still sign some FA’s who could contribute. S Justin Simmons, C Connor Williams, CB Gilmore, Howard, Witherspoon or Nelson. OLB Clowney or Jerome Baker. G Dalton Risner. WR Boyd. DL Teair Tart. T Becton as a low risk, high reward prove it deal. We aren’t done.

The team posts nothing about him. Is he still alive? “At the NFL combine, general manager Monti Ossenfort said of Gaines, “Jon was off to a good start and unfortunately, we keep coming back to these injuries. It’s too bad. But Jon is doing well. Jon is doing really well. He’s in the building every day. He’s rehabbing with us onsite. I love Jon. Jon’s got a good future ahead of him. It was unfortunate with that injury happening in the third preseason game. But he’s making progress, he’s grinding through his rehab and we’re excited to get to a point where we can get him back out on the field.””
