Right about the mid point to 3/4 of the season the 49ers were getting exposed on defense. They were a pretty good defense up until then. When the 49ers had that 10 point lead I knew this defense could be exposed and it definitely got exposed but that said the 49ers offense did enough to win but could not over come the special teams play. That is what really caused the loss but yeah late the 49ers D wasn't very good but the game was lost by special teams. Should have never gotten to overtime.

DC Wilks getting punched again? It's a bit unfair to lay blame on one SF coach or one SF player after this SB loss. If we have to blame one guy, blame the Kicker for his XP being blocked. But, was that his fault? Or was KC ST better on that XP play? Or blame SF's ST for muffing a punt. That flub put KC in great field position for a while.
Overall, KC made less mistakes than SF. And there were few mistakes overall. And that's why the game was so close to the end. It was a good game. Let's agree on that.
(I'm not a Wilks fan. Just putting that out there for everyone to know.)

I've posted before that San Fran won 11 of their 12 regular season games against teams that were ranked 20th or lower in yards allowed by the defense. KC was ranked 2nd going into the Super Bowl.
KC made fewer mistakes and the refs let them play. I thought it was a good game but "Spags" had the added advantage of Mahomes and Reid on offense to help him be more aggressive on defense.
Did anyone else notice how Wilkes tried to use Bowles defense against KC that worked when Tampa beat them in the Super Bowl? Keep two safeties deep and keep outside leverage on the WRs to force them inside should have worked since Kelce was invisible during most of the game but eventually KC won by not making any mistakes and the refs ignoring some pretty egregious holding in the second half.

You gotta always blame somebody arguably whether it's fair or not. Bottom line, a guy who got a raw deal here helped coach another team in our division to a SB. Mistakes are a part of the game but don't always tell the story.

Wilks was solid in the first half.
The thing about the Superbowl is that the halftime show extends the break by more than double the normal time. If you have a shrewd coach who has a ton of experience...he's going to figure something out.
The game was boring in the first half..unless you like punters and good defense. Andy Reed changed that...and that's why he is one of the best...ever.

His D performed well overall, frustrating an extremely potent offense all night.

This seems pretty unprecedented, I'm starting to think Wilks must be a pretty unpleasant guy to have around.

Worst coach I've ever seen in any sport. Should never have been hired here....but Keim.
San Fran is loaded with talent on D. Anybody can virtually coach that defense and do okay. They didnt look good in the playoffs and I put that on Wilks. Expect him to be fired this off season.

This seems pretty unprecedented, I'm starting to think Wilks must be a pretty unpleasant guy to have around. This is a bad look for the NFL, SF, and other teams that hired/fired Wilks. I think you nailed it, CFC. It's the Wilks' behavior, not his work output. But no one will say he's grumpy, a butthead, etc. IMHO, the problem is Wilks' mouth. Shanahan and Wilks apparently had some serious arguments. About what? We have no idea. I'm guessing that Wilks still has a chip on his shoulder from previous events. I can't blame him for being angry after 4-5 firings from various senior coaching jobs. And there is still his claim against Mike Bidwill and others about alleged unfair treatment. We don't know where that Wilks case is today. I thought the NFL assigned an arbitrator to the case last year. The 49ers defense was outstanding in 2023. So, we know Wilks work as DC is fine. He should get another gig somewhere in the NFL...if he is not too unpleasant to be around. Lastly, I noted on MSN.com the discussion about SF firing Wilks today. The Wilks photo was when he was with Arizona. What the heck? Use a picture of him wearing a SF shirt.
