HMMM ... 2 yrs ago my #1 FA target to solve a huge hole in the IOL was James Daniels who played BOTH CENTER & GUARD for the Bears. He was only age 24 and had a PFF as I recall in the high 70's and was signed for a very reasonable $8.33M/APY.
Well here is a quote from SteelersDepot.com on 11/8: "OG James Daniels ranked fifth among all guards with an impressive 87.0 pass-blocking grade in Week Nine, and PFF notes that since Week Three, Daniels is the second-highest rated guard with an 84.8 pass-blocking grade."
I am certainly hoping that Monti/Sears and staff know how to seek out FA's who can fill holes on this team who are age 27 or below, ascending but can be signed for reasonable money. Unlike the prior regime who sought out FA's age 31 or over, career already peaked and they had to be "money-whipped" to sign here. Now I know Monti didn't spend much in FA in 2023 as the goal was to bury dead cap $$ in 2023 and still have some to rollover for the 2024 season when (I hope) the real spending will occur.
NOTE: My FA pick for LB this past year which I thought would happen due to Eagles connections from JG/Rallis is I had chosen TJ Edwards who signed for $6.5M/APY with the Bears but Monti allocated resources to Kyzir White who signed for $5M/APY and one less year. Both players know the Eagles system and are both age 27. While Kyzir White was a good pickup as his PFF is just under 60 ...TJ Edwards is 2nd in the entire NFL in tackles and has a PFF of just under 80. In fact I though for sure Edwards was going to be the LB brought over from the Eagles until on a JV podcast they correctly predicted about 10 days prior that Kyzir White was going to be that dude.

As far as the draft goes and last year was a good start for Monte we have to hope that the scouting department does their due diligence and makes pics based on actual ability and potential ability rather than someone who looks good in shorts. I've been doing a lot of thinking about what successful teams have done throughout the history of the NFL and the Cardinals roster is quite a ways away from being the perfect NFL roster. So what's the next step? The big key still remains what happens with Kyler Murray the rest of this season. If he plays well there's absolutely no way the Cardinals are moving on from him. Drafting a rookie quarterback means you're doing a complete reboot and I just don't think they're going to do that. So if Tyler Murray is going to be your quarterback going forward did the number one priority still has to be the offensive line. No matter what. As I look back upon the history of the NFL many very successful teams only had one outstanding wide receiver but those teams almost always had an outstanding tight end. With the continue development of McBride as far as the offensive goes the only things I would be concerned about would be upgrading the interior offensive line, a true number one wide receiver. I'm not too concerned about a backup running back or a backup quarterback or receivers three through seven. Veteran backup quarterbacks can be signed fairly cheaply. Back up running backs are also fairly cheap or can be drafted in later rounds in the draft. In my humble opinion in my perfect world the Cardinals will draft Harrison Jr if he is available when the Cardinals pick in the first round, trade down with our second first round pick and take the best interior offensive lineman in the draft and use additional pics gained in that trade to bolster the defense. I think that if Wilson can get healthy then himself and Greg George can be the number two and number three receivers. Free agency. I absolutely do not want the Cardinals to spend $20 million a year signing a wide receiver. Again in my personal humble opinion the majority of the Cardinals free agent money should be spent rebuilding the lines. And I will be absolutely furious if they do not land one near All pro level interior offensive lineman during free agency. After that I would Target a giant run stuffing defensive tackle which it has been decades since the Cardinals have had the player like that and the Cardinals must acquire one if not more cornerbacks in free agency. I'm very excited about what Monty will do this year. He didn't have many bullets to fire during free agency last year but at least during the Steve even though he had success with free agents not many of them really stayed around for more than a year or two and he did sign lots of aging players. Key to the debate is obviously how good/bad Murray plays for the next 6 games. Nov/Dec/Jan are audition months for him for the years 2024/2025. If he kills it through Jan, he's good to go in 2024/2025. If he plays 6 more games like he did vs. the Texans last week, then Ossenfort has a tough call to make next April. About the April draft, I'm firmly in the camp that says continue to build the OL and DL. Stack superb playmakers behind them at WR/RB/TE and LB/CB spots. Somewhere, a PK has to be added. Prater is not going to kick for food for 10 more years. The GM is smart to have figured out how to gain 2 x 1st round picks. I'd hate to have to spend 1 on a QB but that might have to happen. It depends on the next 6 games and then a decision by the GM and owner. The GM's wallet is fat ahead of Free Agency. That means he can go shopping but does not mean he can sign a special player. It takes two to sign a FA contract. That money can be used in a lot of different ways and blown real fast on the wrong dudes. I think Ossenfort is a lot smarter than the past GM.

Mevis of Mizzou is that PK/FG kicker. He Is Mizzou's all time Point leader. He Has this season kicked a clutch win the Game FG of 61 yds vs Kansas. And a Big reason Mizzou is ranked #9 last week end. He Is Focused and Accurate. Built like a Truck and Kicks with Authority. The Cards Would not go wrong drafting him. He will need to be watched because he may go as high as a 3rd Rd draft pick. Yes he is That Good!

Mevis was critical to the Mizzou victory. Quick question and maybe you know, is Harrison Mevis as consistent as retired Punter/Kicker Jim Bakken, the 83-yo young guy who still holds the Cardinals scoring record at 1,380 points? Mevis and Bakken are about the same height (5'11') but Mevis (today 245 lbs) is 45 pounds heavier than svelte Bakken (way back then, he was 200 lbs). Source: Wiki and PFR

Source: Wiki and PFR I meant to mention him and some of my other comments about players in the draft that I like. However I've watched every game he's ever played and just a tiny bit of concern about his consistency. In my perfect world the Cardinals could pick him up in the late rounds and stash him on the practice squad for a year or half a year. Hopefully because he is not getting a lot of national recognition he will get a little bit of a chip on his shoulder and that will light a fire under him to get him to perform well at the combine.

Harrison is shown that as well. As I mentioned another comment there is a very tiny concern about his consistency but he's had an excellent career at Mizzou and I would be happy if he became a cardinal. I think the Cardinals are going to be able to draft Marvin Harrison Jr because the bears have to take a quarterback right? Justin Fields just isn't doing it and he can't stay healthy. I do not know if Carolina's ready to give up on that rookie quarterback or not yet. We're kind of in the rare position of wanting Tyler Murray to play like an MVP candidate the rest of the year but the Cardinals not win a game

Things can change in one week, let alone 6.

I think TJ Tampa CB with 85 PFF and at 6’2” and decent speed, can play man or zone and excellent ball skills and should be around at end of 2nd or early 3rd. I like Dorlus or Landondon Jackson as big edge players in the 2nd. a sneeky good player who should slide in the draft is ILB Jestin Jacobs at 6’4” and 245 LBs had a injury that made him miss several games to start 2023. Played ILB with Captian Jack at Iowa who Deroit drafted and he has been money in the NFL. Jestin transferred to Oregon and should be availible in 5th to 6th round. Is Tampa the Iowa State guy? Oddly enough we could use a LB, so I will be paying attention to them, I will check Jacobs out. Yes he is Link

I’m curious to see if Monti makes a waiver claim for Derek Barnett today, former 1st rounder who played for Gannon in Philly and only costs $500k the rest of this season. Cheap to take a look at him and see how he rebounds in a new environment.
Monti also signed Naquan Jones, a DT he knows from the Titans, who was waived last week. He’s signed to practice squad and is only 25. Boy do we need help on the Dline. Maybe new scenery, a new opportunity and a GM who wanted him will work out for him as well.

Maybe new scenery, a new opportunity and a GM who wanted him will work out for him as well. 11/24 ESPN: "PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles have waived veteran defensive end Derek Barnett, the team announced on Friday. Barnett, 27, was drafted 14th overall by the Eagles in 2017 out of Tennessee, where he broke Reggie White's team record for most career sacks (33). He made an impact as a rookie, posting five sacks and 16 quarterback hits during Philadelphia's Super Bowl run. But he never exceeded 6.5 sacks in a season and saw a sharp dip in playing time beginning in 2022. In August, Barnett and agent Drew Rosenhaus were gauging the market for potential trade partners that could give him more playing time, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, but nothing came to fruition. He was a healthy inactive Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys and was ruled out of Monday's game at the Kansas City Chiefs for what the team described as personal reasons. Barnett finishes his career in Philadelphia with 21.5 sacks over 73 games." Per Spotrac, he has a good agent and performance record. The PHI cut clears their books of some owed money for 2023. Most of the 2022 3-year contract was converted to a bonus. I cannot see any injury history. He was a stud DE as a rookie. In 2023, he wasn't getting the playing time needed to earn $$$. Snaps were very low in 2023. Why? That's not discussed. Personal issues maybe.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N'Keal_Harry WR N'Keal was cut loose by the Vikings on November 28th. Former NE Pats 1st Rd pick. Huge WR. 6'4", 225 lbs. Also a huge disappointment for NE, CHI, and MIN. Not a costly FA option and he might help the little guy Murray with blocking and a few catches.
