We got a little help from Houston last weekend. They didn’t “suck”, but for our purposes a loss is a suck. The focus now needs to be on whether or not Houston makes the playoffs. If they don’t, it looks like we will have a second 1st round pick in the #15-20 range. If they make the playoffs, anything can happen and the picks jump to #20-32 in the 1st and 3rd rounds. We don’t want that. Houston has a very easy schedule the rest of the way. That means we become fans of those weak teams, plus the teams contending for a playoff spot around them. The Jaguars should keep the top spot in the AFC South as they are two wins above Houston, but Houston is the first AFC team “on the bubble”. Therefore, we need wins from teams like the Steelers, Browns and Colts who are currently above them. Not the best QBs in that group. We also need wins from the Broncos and Bills, who are right behind them. Maybe even the Chargers or Bengals can make a run? The first game to care about is Pats vs Chargers. If Pats can somehow win, it helps our picks in each round, and is probably best case for us. However, it takes the Chargers out of the “beat Houston to the playoffs race”. I’ll be a Pats fan this weekend. We play the Steelers. As noted, we want the Steelers to remain ahead of Houston in the playoff race. I always want a Cardinal win, and jump out of my seat for every TD. This week, we have nothing to gain from a win except pride. I don’t think we have the roster to win especially away at Pitt. 50 degrees and 35% chance of rain this weekend out there. So be it. Let’s just hopefully see some progress with Kyler. Colts-Titans we DEFINITELY want a Colts win. Keeps Houston in check and helps our Titans 3rd rounder. Broncos-Texans…HUGE if the Broncos can win this one. Both 6-5 in the AFC fighting for a playoff spot. HUGE! GO BRONCOS! Panthers-Bucs we want a Carolina win. They never win, but have a shot here playing for pride after their HC was fired. Rams-Browns…go Browns! Bengals-Jaguars…interesting. If Houston loses I’d want a Bengals win to contend with Houston for the last playoff spot. If Houston wins, I’d want a Jaguars win to stay 2 games ahead in the AFC South. Early games not going our way from a draft perspective. Pats lose 0-6 with plenty of chances to kick FGs. As if they didn’t want to win. Houston beats Denver by five when Russell Wilson throws a TD with 16 seconds left on 3rd and goal. We look like winners, which is awesome for all things except draft position. I’ll take it. Colts and Titans into overtime. Go Colts! Afternoon games, go Panthers, Browns and Jaguars!

Trevor Lawrence looked badly injured towards the end of the loss to the Bengals, and now the Jags are just one game ahead of the Texans in their division. If out for the remaining games, this could propel Houston into the playoffs and crush our draft position with their 1st and 3rd picks.

He might be joining Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile I'm really disappointed in Houston (LOL!).

This is why I say QB2 is the second most important position on an NFL team. 1/6 of the NFL is instantly doomed with one injury.

Bye week.
Can the Patriots beat the Steelers? Bailey Zappe vs Mitch Trubisky? Anything could happen. Hey, we beat them. Or are the Patriots actually tanking? We do want the Steelers to beat Houston out of the playoffs.
Can the Bears beat the Lions at Soldier Field? Yes!
The Jaguars play the Browns. With their QB situation do the Jags suddenly suck? They’ve also lost Kirk and their LT.
Could the Panthers beat the Saints? I say yes!
Can the Jets beat Houston in New Jersey? Sure! I’ll be checking the weather soon. If it’s bad enough maybe the Giants will beat the Packers at MetLife the next night.
Can the Dolphins beat the Titans? Finally, one I’m actually confident in. YES!
Have a nice bye week folks.

Well, the Patriots pulled one off, but still sit at pick 2 due to strength of schedule. Bad news is the Pitt losses to us and New England drop them out of the Wild Card range and let Houston in, and their picks are now down to #22 in of each round.

Bad news is the Pitt losses to us and New England drop them out of the Wild Card range and let Houston in, and their picks are now down to #22 in of each round. Cardinal fans need to root hard for the Browns, Broncos or Chargers (whichever team wins this weekend), Colts and Bills and unfortunately we might need the Titans to win one of their 2 contests left vs. Texans. The latter has a very tough schedule but their fans could get excited if they can beat the Chiefs this week. You can track the playoff picture and ultimately the final projected standings to see which teams make the playoffs and thus ultimate draft pick position for the Cardinals. NFL Playoff Predictor

We just have to realize we are not a good franchise! No matter who we sign, draft, or whatever luck comes our way… one thing for sure is it will not work out. We can get close everyone once and awhile but we are not Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle, Kansas City, New England or others and dare I say Dallas with storied or winning cultures. Our owners accept mediocrity at best.

Can’t believe Trevor Lawrence is playing after seeing his injury happen live and his reaction to it on the field and in pain on the sidelines. Guy must have self healing mutant genes.

Bears-Lions tied 13-13 in the 3rd.
Jets up 7-0 over Houston in the 3rd in pouring rain. I knew that weather might make a difference today and for the Giants tomorrow!
Let’s go!
Edit: Jets now up 14-0 with 4 min left in the 3rd. Would be huge for us if Houston loses this game.

(Now - Jets 14- Texans - 6 with 11 minutes left and Jets have the ball). Cardinal fans should also root for the Bills and the Broncos to prevent any "back door" playoff appearance for the Texans.

Jets 24-6 over the Texans. Should be a safe lead with less than 7 minutes left in the rain. This will bring Houston to 7-6, with a strength of schedule around .471. This is also good for us as it keeps the Jets from moving ahead of us with our first pick should we end with same record.
Similarly, a Bears win is good for us, as they also only had four wins. It looks like they will go to 5-8 if they hold on and beat the Lions. They are up 28-13 with 9 min left.
With a Houston loss, we want teams just below at 6-6 records to win. Rams and Falcons games are both within a score in the 4th, and it looks like the Bengals will win. Plenty of other 6-6 teams later today.
Panthers truly suck and will keep that #1 pick for the Bears to use.

After the morning games our Houston pick moved from #22 to #17. It would be good for the Vikings and Green Bay to get wins to keep them there. Also, the Broncos, Rams and Seahawks could make things tighter for Houston going into the last three weeks. Rams are tied in overtime and Seahawks tied 7-7 with the 49ers.
