With 3 second left, Carolina kicks a short FG to win the game 15-13! Huge for our own first round pick position, as we are now for the moment tied with Carolina at one win, but more importantly for the Houston picks, as a lot of teams that went into the week with three wins are getting their fourth. I’m also happy to see Houston be bad enough a team to lose to a winless team. I was feeling they might be a legit 8-10 win team and don’t feel that way so much now.

Yep, glad to see CAR win its first game and tie ARZ on the loss column. Surprised that HOU was able to produce just 13 points with that staff. A lot went wrong for HOU today for them to lose to CAR.

Several games of note Week 9, as many of the better teams face each other while lesser teams face off and half will “earn” another win.
Tonight we want the Titans to lose to the Steelers, so they remain at three wins and our 3rd rounder from the Titans stays in the top 75 picks. EDIT TITANS LOSE A CLOSE ONE!
Sunday the most important draft game (outside our own, and we like Cardinals wins!) is again the Houston game. The 3-4 Texans face the 3-4 Buccaneers. Go Bucs!!
Also on Sunday morning, the 3-5 Rams face the 2-5 Packers. The 3-5 Commanders face the 2-6 Patriots. And the 2-6 Bears face the 4-4 Saints. A Bears win would be huge for us.
In the afternoon games, we want the 1-6 Panthers to beat the 3-5 Colts, and the 2-6 Giants to beat the 3-5 Raiders.
We want the Texans to fall below each of these teams, so a loss by one each may get us half way there! All hinges on a Texans loss.
EDIT: Tank-a-thon has an interesting “Draft Power Rankings” tab which assigns a value to each pick and gives a sum total for each team. Our Cardinals, with 12 total picks including six that may be top 75, hold the most Draft Power points with 1695, nearly 500 points more than the second most team, the Bears. I’ll keep an eye on this measure through the remaining weeks. Remember we are also projected to get another 4th rounder as a compensatory pick.

I’m traveling on family emergency duty this week and weekend so I’ll keep it short.
Bears vs Carolina tonight, Bears own both first round picks and are right in line behind us. Enjoy watching one get a win.
Go Pats, go Bengals, go Packers, go Broncos! Good luck Giants! Go Bucs beat the Titans!
GO CARDINALS…IT’S TIME TO SEE IF K1 IS QB1 for the next few years minimum!

Well, the Texans…do not suck. They are now ranked by NFL.com as one of the top 10 teams. Their record has them at pick 20. But they still matter for our 1st and 3rd rounds of the draft, and every bit of suck still helps us.
This week, we again want the Texans to LOSE! First, because Cardinal wins, especially now that Kyler is back, are what we want. If we can look like a .500 team or better with the new staff and this roster the second half of the season, and Kyler looks like he’s fully back and capable in this offense, we are set up really nicely for 2024 and the years after. Secondly, a Cardinal win could move our Houston picks up the ladder several spots.
As for other games of draft position interest, the Patriots are on their bye. The 3-6 Rams play the Seahawks and it would be helpful if the Rams got a win. Giants over Commanders would also help our first rounder sit where it is currently even when we win. We want Bears over Lions, Packers over Chargers, and Jaguars over Titans. Upset of the week would be Panthers over Cowboys.

We want Bears over Lions, Packers over Chargers, and Jaguars over Titans. Upset of the week would be Panthers over Cowboys. Could really use a Giants over Commanders win and then next week the Giants vs. Patriots so if the former happens, Cardinal fans would need to root for the Pats. One interesting note since strength of schedule is the tie-breaker -- Cardinals schedule includes the Browns, Bengals & Ravens. The former two teams are now stuck for the remainder of the year with very questionable QB's so anticipate many more losses for the two Ohio teams -- RESULT: Cardinals SOS goes DOWN which helps our Redbirds in draft position should there be a tie. TE Mark Andrews loss also could cause the Ravens to lose a few more games they wouldn't have without that injury. So we want teams played by the Giants (which still play the Eagles 2x while Cards obviously play once) & Pats who haven't played the Cardinals to do WELL and bolster their SOS while Cardinal opponents who don't play Giants/Pats to do poorly. C'mon Browns - Bengals - Bears go into the tank ... it is conceivable these 3 teams might only win a total of 4-5 games the entire rest of the year. It would be great for these 3 teams in aggregate to go 4-19 the rest of the year severely dropping the Cardinals eventual SOS.

Well this thread is not where I thought it would be when I created it. But we carry on, hoping the Texans suck. At least the Titans sort of suck.
Now it seems we must also turn our eyes to the teams “fighting” us for the top few spots in the 2024 draft with our own pick. I want to win, win, win…and to go into the off-season with a feeling of hope that cap spending in free agency and a good draft could put enough pieces around Kyler to be relevant. For that to happen, it wouldn’t hurt us to have teams like the Bears, Panthers, Patriots and Giants get some wins as well.
This week, the most important game in that regard is Giants vs Patriots, and we want the Patriots to win. It would be nice to have these QB hungry teams desperate to trade up a few spots to our pick. So GO PATRIOTS!
Tomorrow (HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!) we don’t have anything huge at stake draft-wise, but it would be good if the Commanders and Packers get wins to maybe nudge the Texans down a spot or two at the end. Similarly, on Friday we want a Jets win.
Sunday we want wins by the Falcons, Colts, and the previously mentioned Patriots. The two most directly important games for our first and 2 third round picks are of course the Texans vs Jaguars and Titans vs Carolina. It would be especially nice to see Carolina win, as that would help solidify our own pick’s spot near the top of the round, plus knocks the Titans position higher in the third round. Go Jags, go Panthers!
Finally, on Monday we are not Josh Dobbs fans. We want the Bears to make him look like the one win QB he was for us. Go Bears!
Enjoy your turkey and leftovers.

Houston kicking for the tie on 4th and 12, 58 yarder. Would be a record for their kicker.
Short! Jaguars win!

Bears beat Minn at the buzzer, Josh Dobbs throws 4 INT’s to 1 TD. Bears reach four wins, so the race to the bottom looks to be between Carolina (Bears pick) with one win, and us and the Patriots with two wins.
Carolina just fired their HC and are playing for pride. They still face Tampa twice, New Orleans, Atlanta, Green Bay and Jacksonville. A pretty easy schedule but they are awful.
New England faces the Chargers, Pitt, KC, Denver, Buffalo, and the Jets. If we end the season with the same record, they likely get the better pick due to softer SOS.
We of course face Pitt, San Fran, Chicago, Philly and Seattle. Seattle and San Fran at home, the rest away out East in the cold.
As for the Houston picks we own, both sit at the 17th picks of rounds one and three. The Tenn pick is at #8 of round three.

We got a little help from Houston last weekend. They didn’t “suck”, but for our purposes a loss is a suck.
The focus now needs to be on whether or not Houston makes the playoffs. If they don’t, it looks like we will have a second 1st round pick in the #15-20 range. If they make the playoffs, anything can happen and the picks jump to #20-32 in the 1st and 3rd rounds. We don’t want that. Houston has a very easy schedule the rest of the way. That means we become fans of those weak teams, plus the teams contending for a playoff spot around them.
The Jaguars should keep the top spot in the AFC South as they are two wins above Houston, but Houston is the first AFC team “on the bubble”. Therefore, we need wins from teams like the Steelers, Browns and Colts who are currently above them. Not the best QBs in that group. We also need wins from the Broncos and Bills, who are right behind them. Maybe even the Chargers or Bengals can make a run?
The first game to care about is Pats vs Chargers. If Pats can somehow win, it helps our picks in each round, and is probably best case for us. However, it takes the Chargers out of the “beat Houston to the playoffs race”. I’ll be a Pats fan this weekend.
We play the Steelers. As noted, we want the Steelers to remain ahead of Houston in the playoff race. I always want a Cardinal win, and jump out of my seat for every TD. This week, we have nothing to gain from a win except pride. I don’t think we have the roster to win especially away at Pitt. 50 degrees and 35% chance of rain this weekend out there. So be it. Let’s just hopefully see some progress with Kyler.
Colts-Titans we DEFINITELY want a Colts win. Keeps Houston in check and helps our Titans 3rd rounder.
Broncos-Texans…HUGE if the Broncos can win this one. Both 6-5 in the AFC fighting for a playoff spot. HUGE! GO BRONCOS!
Panthers-Bucs we want a Carolina win. They never win, but have a shot here playing for pride after their HC was fired.
Rams-Browns…go Browns!
Bengals-Jaguars…interesting. If Houston loses I’d want a Bengals win to contend with Houston for the last playoff spot. If Houston wins, I’d want a Jaguars win to stay 2 games ahead in the AFC South.
