We get this same story every season. I think with Golden back and Jones doing his thing teams will be so worried about that outside rush it is gonna give the Diche chances not to be doubled and get in there and mess things up in the backfield and that is my gut feeling about him this year. unleash the beast is what I am thinking.

Is this his contract season? Next year, 2019, is his make/break year. Here's his 2019 contract info, thanks to SPORTRAC: @ age 24...$1,122,808 $1,113,747 $400,000 $100,000 $2,736,555 $2,236,555 $1,622,808 ($8,600,599 total if he hits all incentives)

Call me a skeptic but I don't think coaching has been his problem.

I will add guys that play his position in the 34 defense are frequently doubled. If that guy isn't doubled he could blow up plays in the backfield with penetration.

Yes yes, Diche definitely needs a break out year, preferably this year. But he's not the only one. I want Gunter to break out too. I remember how one of the scouts were just in love with his motor and athleticism. He might just be a career backup or rotational guy, but he really should contribute this year if we want the 4-3 to work

Nkemdiche has been a non-factor since he was signed here. Our #1 draft pick has less stats then undrafted players on our roster. Hopefully our new coaching staff will light a fire under his butt and he could be the player he has potential to be. I just don't see the warrior instinct in him like lots of players have.

No. You can hope he will. The same way you can hope to win the lottery.
But hope and expectation are not the same.
There is zero viable expectation he will be better. Hes been the same up/down player his entire football career going all the way back to college. As the proverb goes: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them".

Plays that stuck out, in my mind, was the preseason drive against the raiders and a scoRe on a fumble. ...cant think of anything else beyond that.

Hes been the same up/down player his entire football career going all the way back to college. As the proverb goes: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them". I didn't see anybody post that he was a lock to be good. As far as hope goes, that's all anybody can do concerning NFL football without fooling themselves, including you. As far the odds go pertaining to winning the big prize in the lottery, they are thousands of times worse than a player who struggles in the NFL for a few years becoming great. Leon Lett wasn't a starter on the depth chart until his fourth season which was a Pro Bowl season. He was then regarded a one of the better DT's in the game. Ray Brown, who is the Cards current OL coach, didn't become a full-time stater until his seventh season. He ended up starting over 200 games during his career. Jay Novacek started only six games during his five years with Cardinals, but when he went to the Cowboys he made five consecutive Pro Bowls. Kyle Vanden Bosch had four sacks in three years with the Cardinals and when he leaves he is suddenly getting double-digit sacks and making Pro Bowls. Those are just a few examples off the top of my head. Hope also goes for players who are currently performing well. Honey Badger and John Brown performed well until they didn't. We can only hope that a player who has performed well in the past will continue to do so. The beauty of the game is nobody knows what's going to happen from season to season, or game to game. The sports books in Vegas love the fact that so many fans think they know so much about football when they don't. It keeps the $$$ rolling in. The fact is I don't know how Nkemdiche is going to perform in the future, nor do you. All I know is it won't be a big shock no matter how it turns. That's why reading everyone's opinions on these threads is so much fun. Nobody knows how it will turn out. It makes it fun to see what the final outcome is going to be and see who guessed right and who guessed wrong. Its like watching a good mystery movie but having to wait much longer to see what the final outcome will be. As Albert Einstein said, "The wisest people know what they don't know." When you hope, you know you don't know what's going to happen but you hope for the best. When you expect, you think you know what's probably going happen but unless you study mountains of statistical data, you really don't know what's going to happen. So when it comes to football, where even studying a mountain of stats still won't produce a reliable outcome, hope is better than expectations because hope normally provides less disappointment than expectations.
