Everyone needs t remember we were in a strange spot this last off season. New coaches and a switch from 4-3 to 3-4, and complete uncertainty where we would end up at QB. QB was the priority by far. We simply didn’t have contract flexibility or cap space to make the defensive roster changes that would benefit us for the long haul.
I think this off-season was very successful considering the hand we were holding. No cap/contract wiggle room meant very little could be done there. We did, however, inch closer to the Oline for ground and pound. Pugh was a big signing. The one mistake was not trading DBuc...though it does take two to tango. A bigger mistake would have been a new deal or contract extension. We didn’t do that. The success looks to be the draft, which is all we really had to work with this year. Rosen was a STEAL, and I’m seeing the potential I’d hoped for in Kirk and Cole. A grand slam and two solid hits in three at bats.
Next year is the year the roster sees upheaval. Another draft and $90 million in cap space. This year’s team doesn’t resemble what our head coach has in mind.

Deone wasn't a bust? Are you dense? He was a virtual All pro in the right system. He was drafted for a coordinator who is no longer here! That's not a bust. And you don't hire a new coach to specifically fit one player. Reddick is not a bust. Way too early. Still too early Robert as well. He's starting to show progress. You can have Williams. 25% ain't bad for you, I guess.

Exactly. I was pushing to trade him to the Giants the moment Betcher moved over there. Could have saved us a ton of money no matter what we got in return...a pick or one of their many corners. I was hoping for Eli Apple, as things were strained with him at the time. 2. Hiring a Ground and Pound guy as the HC and not expecting massive issues on O. Again, common sense dictates "rebuild". The good news was that we didn't need a ton of rebuilding on the O. (Something Keim DID address). Our Oline is actually perfect for G&P mentality. Unfortunately there was mistake #3. 3. Hiring McCoy. I understood we wanted a guy with HC experience for our rookie HC, but McCoy is a train wreck. I had no idea he'd be THIS BAD. I thought he'd be able to adjust somewhat. He's dreadful. This is more on Wilks though as he hired McCoy, but Keim had to know that he was the guy he wanted. Which leads us to... McCoy was hired BEFORE we drafted Rosen. He was brought in when Bradford was to be the guy. Nobody knew we'd be able to move up in the draft and land a top 4 rookie QB when McCoy was hired.

I said rookie HC, not rookie QB.

That's a great point. We should only trade him for greater than the value we'd expect to get from the comp pick. If he signs with a NY team, I'd expect good results from the comp. However, it'd be a completely cold move to do it. He wouldn't play, would lose money on the market, and lose a year of football. I get the business end of it, but Deone doesn't deserve that kind of treatment. Tough decision. Takes two to tango though. They also cant give him up for a 6th or 7th. If the best offer the Cards can get for Buc is only a 6th or 7th, then trade him to the Dolphins for Devante Parker where you can see if Parker develops with Rosen and if not, then you can cut him in 2019 with no cap hit. Parker at 6'3" 212 lbs is a great athlete (former #1 pick) who can high-point the ball but in Miami has been oft-injured but they thought enough of his potential to trigger his 5th yr option (2019). The article below however indicates Parker might be available and I read an article today that Miami's DC likes the Safety/Linebacker sized guys in their defense. It is worth a call -- as Parker's size - speed - strength are very reminiscent of M. Floyd (hopefully without the booze).

I stand by my thoughts. If Buc is so good then why can we only get a mid round pick for him in a trade. Reddick has yet to be consistent. I should cut him some slack. Diche never plays a full season and is waaaaaay behind where he should be. Deone wasn't a bust? Are you dense? He was a virtual All pro in the right system. Because coaches or GMs overvalue draft picks. Randy Moss and Boldin were given away for mid round or less picks.

FLCF, who has offered any pick at all? So far it's just La Confora's rumor mill article. Maybe Buc is being shopped and maybe not... He will be an UFA at seasons end.
Gotta take into account the New DC's view of what he Thinks he wants/needs as a LB. He's never coached a player like Buc before, a true Hybrid $LB. And Buc is frustrated as *ell over how things are going down as well. Is he getting a true shake from Holcomb and Wilks? They are surely diminishing Buc's value this year. Something the former Coaching staff would not have done.

I've stood by this team, Steve Keim and Mike Bidwill for years, but when the new couch interviewed and the second he said they would change the defense to a 4-3 Steve should have said "thanks for coming in but we'll pass". I can't believe they still went with him after so many players were going to see to totally switch their positions and logic. Maybe Steve realized what I am saying after the fact and went to drown his sorrows that night he was arrested.
Go Cards anyways of course.
