Is it too late to sign McCrane? Seriously though, what did coaches see in preseason that made them go with Dawson? Wasn't McCrane perfect? including a couple 50+ yarders??? Yes, McCrane was perfect and I think all of his kicks were 50+. Grandpa missed one that was 40-something. |

This whole thing is so to me. If we were going into the season thinking we are contenders, I could see the reasoning for staying with Dawson.
I have no idea how good or bad McCrane might be. But dam, he did all he could do in preseason. Just say we kept him and he didn't turn out that good....so what. We could sign someone else. At least he had potential and might even become a star. We had nothing to loose by giving him a chance.
Now were stuck with some old guy past his prime that has no future potential at all...dumb...dumb...dumb..
We are rebuilding. We don't need people at the end of their careers. We need young people who might turn out to be something.

I have some kind of mental issue because I actually watched all 4 preseasons game this team played and was impressed by the young kicker "competing" with Dawson I would have kept the young guy however let's not forget the last time we kept a rookie specialist we had the worst punter of all time. Dawson has to go

First of all, I do not like Dawson. I didnt like him last year. Talk about frustrating, the guy had his most misses ever last year and he also had his most makes. He had some 4 fg games he was on fire. And he missed some HUGE ones.
I understood why some wanted McCrane, but how dramatic it got over him was a bit odd. You saw some a small sample size and yeah he was perfect with one bouncing off crossbar. An inch the other way and he has a miss.
Does anyone remember any kick offs by McCrane? I do not know if they are asking Dawson to kick short or if he just cant kick it deep into end zone at this point.
McCrane also missed two kicks yesterday for all those that think he is Mr Perfect. He just happened to hit a 29 yard game winner.
I would imagine Raiders kicker comes back healthy and McCrane becomes avail in a few weeks. I would also look at Zane Gonzalez who would kick better indoors here.
