Not sure if everyone has been watching those Flight Plan videos on the Cards main website but if you go back and watch the Draft episode you might get some insight on just how high the brass were on Edmonds. When discussing the THIRD pick in the draft Wilks starts naming off the guys he likes (assuming from the Cards big board) and he actually names Edmonds as a possible 3rd round pick. I rewatched the scene a couple times to make sure it wasn’t somehow a mixup by the editor.. It seems to jive. So yeah Cards were REALLY HIGH on this guy. Can’t wait to see him with the rock in his hands. Yeahh, Wilks seemed really mad when we settled for Mason Cole. Glad they still got his guy in the 4th round. He might be really special for us.

I think you have to put part of the blame for the bad OL on BA and Hardold Goodwin. Goodwin - There was a severe lack of talent developed despite Keim investing money and draft picks in guys. BA - He had a very complicated system which involved alot of deep drops and waiting for guys to get open, something which didn't suit the personnel IMO. If we are to believe what we are being told we will run the ball more and the QB will be getting the ball out of his hands quicker. Hope Dorian Johnson (currently on Panthers roster) could get another shot under Brown as his position coach than the below average Goodwin ... letting talented OL go under previous regime's complicated (200+play) offense and OL teaching of screaming louder (as stated by LeCharles Bentley former OL -- see story on his academy for OL Bentley Training Academy . I personally heard Mr. Bentley about 8 mos ago on 98.7 berating the teaching methods of Harold Goodwin.
Yeah, 'Equilibrium' went back to the beginning of Cards football time for that avatar, long before computer-generated graphics, to the time of hand-painted jerseys and simple iconic ideas that stood the test of time. True nostalgia that one. And Goodwin was awful.

A running back and I don't care who you are is only as good as his O line. If you have to dodge a DT in the backfield all the time your not going to make many yards. Last year we all know the Cards O line was a disaster. Fix the O line and we have a good stable of RB's. Would you say our oline was stellar in DJ's first season ? The oline has done a good job blocking for DJ since he has been here. Actually, last year they blocked well on running plays though the statistics don't show it. With the regression of our wr's and CP's injury, defenses we faced normally were playing eight in the box because they didn't fear our passing game. Its extremely difficult to run the ball under those circumstances. The last game of the season is a prime example. For some reason, in the first half Seattle wasn't playing eight in the box like most defenses played against us. We were picking up 4 to 7 yards consistantly on first down running the ball, and we scored 20 points in the first half. In the second half the Seahawks switched to eight in the box and our running game was dismal. We only scored 6 point in the second half. Hopefully, with DJ back as both a runner and receiver in addition to our new QB's our oline will look much better.

I'm not as high on this pick. His scouting report indicates he bounces a lot to the outside to get his gains. You don't succeed in the NFL with that at all. David Johnson bounces everything as he should. I hated BA running up the middle, up the middle, up the middle. No gain. No gain. No gain. Punt. See the middle? All those bodies? Good luck. Look on the outside. Theres green grass. All you have to do is outrun the LBs to the edge then juke some DBs and its a TD All the top RBs bounce. Few are successful up the middle without a DOMINANT OL like the Cowboys.

Edmunds just used about 1/4 of his rookie salary to pay off his sister’s 80k in student college and grad school debt. Said he planned on making the NFL to help his family and when he heard from his mother about his sister’s debt he decided it was the least he could do for her. She was shocked, as she never talks about or complains about her debt, just accepted it as a reality of higher education these days. I’m really liking this kid. Reports he’s getting rave reviews in camp as well.

BA wanted his cake and to eat it also. Most good drive blocking lines aren't designed for long developing pass plays. Good drive blocking lines are filled with maulers. Those guys might be good pass blockers but aren't made to hold out the defense for long developing pass plays.
Go back and look at the 49's in the Montana and Young hey day. You very seldom see either QB doing a 7 step drop. It's either a 3 or 5 step drop and the ball is out of the QB hands. And they had a good power running game with Craig, and used a fullback in Rathdrum. Of course they also had Clark, Taylor ,and Rice as receivers. Which helped a lot. But most of the receivers yards came after the catch. Don't know how many times Montana threw an in route to Rice at about 7 yards and it became a 15 yard gain.
Now I believe you can have a power running scheme with a west coast offense, but you can't have a power running scheme with BA's offense. There just aren't that many good drive blocking O lineman who are great pass blockers. It's either one or the other.
