I don’t get either Penny not making the team. I thought he made some great blocks that freed some long runs. Not sure I remember Coleman being mentioned much in preseason so I guess they thought he was the better choice.

It was Wilks Roster cuts and decisions on Who to keep Not SK's. And it is Only the 1st iteration of the 53. It will change before the 1st game on the 9th. So to all the BW haters don't lose sleep or hope that your object of derision stays on the roster.
Odds are he won't.
Penny is PS eligible as is 9 other cuts.

Keims I'm sure has his say. And maybe he's still pushing BW hard. Keim has already been embarrassed once recently and is trying t save face.

That's how I read it, too - some of us are onto him and have been for a while. One or two defenders of the faith will still argue that the 'King Can Do No Wrong' and to opine otherwise is heresy. That's OK - this is a forum and opinions vary.
But - Anyone who has been a boss in business and who has had a boss or owner above him knows how it goes: hints, then pressure or outright orders to do something that is not right, or best, or better. If you resist, you are on shaky ground thereafter or fired at first opportunity. Apply this truism to Wilks in his first HC job, and the dots are easily connected. (IMHO and experience.)

Wilks is a defensive back specialist so maybe he sees a way to utilize Brandon. It's a head scratcher for sure but there is also the fact that he is pretty solid on special teams.
First time he gets burned this board is going to implode.

First time he gets burned this board is going to implode. Think about this. Last year the cards were eliminated from the playoffs with 2-3 games remaining? Why didnt we see what BW could do? Because he sucked that bad. He's an embarrassment that Keim is holding onto. Keim just got embarrassed badly. He needs some time to lick his wounds before inflicting more.

I'm kind of souring on our fearless leader SK. He has made some great moves with his 1 year prove it deals. On the other hand his draft picks haven't been so good. Cooper was the 7th pick in the draft. He just got cut again. How many ties is it now? Dorian Johnson was let go again also. Niche I'm afraid is going to become a bust. Guy can't stay on the field, and when he does he isn't all that special for the talent he has. Humph is an ok LT. He is far from being elite, And I don't ever see him becoming elite. Reddick is another one who isn't going to live up to his draft position. He played with his hand in the dirt in college. He has no LB instincts and those take years to develop.
Then we have cutting McCrane and Penny. Both of those guys should have been kept before Williams. McCrane should have been kept over Dawson. Right now we have DJ and two scat backs. That's not going to do it with a lead in the 4th quarter and trying to run out the clock with a ground and pound. That's a perfect spot for Penny and his physical style running. And to me McCrane easily beat out Dawson for the place licking position. He hit 2 FG's over 50+ Yards to spare. Dawson missed his only FG try from 50. Not to mention the distance on kick offs.
I really liked SK when he got here. Kinda like a new girl friend. Penny isn't so shiny after you get to know her and her faults.. Now that I've seen him work I think the Cards could do better. And it has no bearing on his DUI. I over looked that. It's his work as GM that I'm questioning. Especially evaluating talent.

I can't argue about the results from last year but we have new everything now and he is still around. They have some use for him and we will see what that is as the season progresses.

It seems to me that as an ex-lineman, SK would have the Cards with about the best OL in the league by now, but for some reason that is yet to happen.

"Can any of the Cardinals’ coaches, especially head coach Steve Wilks, who preaches and demands “physicality,” look any of us fans in the eyes and say that CB Brandon Williams is a better roster fit than FB/RB Elijhaa Penny?" www.revengeofthebirds.com/2018/9/2/17811548/a-penny-wasted-preaching-physicalityI think the ROTB guys might be poaching story topics from this board's threads. Or else, it really is just a painfully obvious observation.

The decision may have come down to the answer to this question: "Coach Wilks, would you rather have 1 extra defensive player or 1 extra offensive player?" Knowing the HC's history, I guessed 'defender'.
Until we know more about the SK-SW relationship, which could take all season, the Q&A guesses will outnumber the knowns. For now the Brandon Williams experiment continues. And IMV, Penny will not be unemployed long.

Just read that Penny was added to the Practice Squad. For avid Penny adorers, FBs are not in high demand in the NFL today....nevertheless he is vulnerable to the other 31 teams.
