They paid him a nice bonus so that makes him hard to cut and any trade offer would be a net loss. What is he worth, a 6th at best? This is based off the morning show hype machine that says Glennon makes the team based off the business decision surrounding the 4 million bonus and the ability to slip Kanoff to the practice squad.

I was on the trade Glennon bandwagon at first but now I hesitate at the idea of possibly having two rookie QB's to back up an injury prone veteran. True it is not ideal, but we won't be in the running for the best record in the league, either. Most of us agreed some time ago that this will be a building year, not a year for success. IF (that nasty word again) both rookies survived uninjured I would not mind them playing whatever the record, but if our OL cannot give them decent protection it could be brutal. I sure hope SK will actually get some good OL personnel before next year, or we will be doing runs and dink/dunk passes every game and depending on defense/S Teams to score. Realistically, with no good WRs that will probably be the case anyway... Glennon as the sacrificial lamb is the only way he makes a bit of sense to me, but if we do that then odds are Kanoff will be on the PS and lost, or cut, and I do not like either because I think he is a diamond in the rough and a good bet to become very good.
This last PS game could be very rough on both rookies, and I hope they come through it with no injuries. I bet the first string OL will not play long if at all, and all the fringe and bubble players will be trying to make a final chance big impression.
I don't buy into the foregoing conclusion that we won't experience success. That was a prevailing mindset when BA took over from Whiz but the Cards came out the gate kicking butt. Losing came later and even that to a point was circumstantial.

Perhaps Glennon’s departure the FO will get their heads out of their butts & bring back WR Austin Wolf who never should have been released to begin with.

This board loves making someone something they are not. Cards will surely regret not keeping this guy all these teams are rushing to sign. They gave him a week tryout, he didnt impress let it go. Put his jersey next to your Rohan Davey, Max Hall, and the 5 white wr’s this board has loved that are not playing football anymore. You can put it by Cap Capi’s as well, because he is gone. At least Matt Barkley people moaned about still latches on as 3rd string QB even if its his 8th team.

Hardly time for a fair assessment no matter who it might be, and supposedy let go so they could pick up someone for another position of need. None of us armchair critics had a chance to watch him so neither of us knows anything for sure, but allow us to at least hope that a gem can be found by picking up someone with a good record in college - even a small one.
Maybe we are giving up on the long ball entirely (which is the case even if JJ is retained since he can't catch a cold these days).

I HOPE that we surprise everyone, but with so much being new the odds are not great. Next year things can change a lot.

Bradford will not be here next year, almost guaranteed by his contract construction. Glennon may not be pretty and Kanoff May have looked good against 3rd stringers and worse for a few preseason quarters, but we will not want to be a QB room of Rosen/Kanoff/? next season. If a better QB2 than Glennon comes available, then let’s talk. But Glennon is the same type of QB as Rosen and can run the same system. There’s a value in that.

If a better QB2 than Glennon comes available, then let’s talk. But Glennon is the same type of QB as Rosen and can run the same system. There’s a value in that. That said, we are in a good spot this year as far as backup QBs go. Here’s where we most recently rank: 5. Patriots: OK, Brian Hoyer isn't Garoppolo. But let's not forget he managed to go 10-6 (!!!) as Cleveland's starter in 2013 and 2014 and played a significant part in the Texans' drive to the playoffs the following year. In the unlikely event Brady misses limited time, Hoyer could keep this train on the tracks. 4. Cardinals: They're either going to have a highly capable veteran (Sam Bradford) or a sublimely talented rookie (Josh Rosen) holding the clipboard for a team that has plenty of talent throughout the roster. Erstwhile Bears starter Mike Glennon could struggle to stick. 3. Browns: New arrivals Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield both led their previous teams to the playoffs in 2017, though the Bills don't recruit nearly as well as Oklahoma, so advantage to Taylor (already anointed as Cleveland's Week 1 starter, for what that's worth). But assuming Mayfield plays at some point, the Browns will either have a guy with a 91.2 career passer rating in the NFL or a Heisman winner drafted No. 1 overall in reserve ... to say nothing of steady veteran Drew Stanton. 2. Jets: First rounder Sam Darnold will likely start sooner than later. But the Jets have a pair of welcome alternatives in Josh McCown, who comes off a career year yet embraces the mentorship responsibilities of being a journeyman, and Teddy Bridgewater, whose recovery from his gruesome 2016 knee injury is finally hitting high gear and could make him a trade target later this summer. 1. Eagles: With Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles in the bullpen, the champs obviously remain the league's preeminent doomsday preppers. I don’t see a QB2 better than Glennon above the #7 ranked team, the Vikings, and he’s our QB3. If we can get decent value for Glennon and think we can replace him at QB2 with equal or better to back Rosen in 2019 Id be good with it. I think having a vet backup who Rosen respects would be good for Rosen’s development for a few years. Whether Glennon fits that I don’t know.

It's mildly mind blowing that there could be such a thing as "desperate for Glennon", but I get it. A competent back-up is necessity. Another team (Steelers?) is going to have to want him pretty bad to make an offer that I think would make it worth it to ship him off. I don't want to see him starting Cardinals games as much as anyone else, but he still has real value here... then again, that value might never be higher than it will be in the next couple weeks... so maybe it's a good thing I'm not the one deciding.

Read the first line above. I am only saying we are not likely to be big winners this year, not that we won't win at all. I HOPE that we surprise everyone, but with so much being new the odds are not great. Next year things can change a lot. I read you correctly the first time, and didn't interpret your point as we won't win at all. My point was simply that we've speculated such reasoning before, only to immediately post a 10-6 record......followed by 11-5......and 13-3. Why should we preclude the odds of a winning season is against us.......because of personnel changes? Not criticizing, just an observation.

Ill save my whining and complaining when he signs and blows up in the league and we regret it so much. I know I have eaten crow on Jaxon Shipley and his success after the Cards cut him to the chagrin of this board. Oh wait, he never signed anywhere else after we cut him in Sept of 2016!

yes mel because of the entirely new qb roster and coaching staff. it takes time for a team to gel and learn a system. if a team totally sucks then there can be improvement even when learning a new system over a failed system. but we didn't suck last year so odds are our results go down not up. its not just a player or two learning a new play book, its everybody on the team including coaches learning a new playbook. there is no one that knows the play book by heart to carry those who don't fully know it yet. we will have a lot more blown assignments this year than last year or next year just as a result of knowing the playbook.
