This is just a depth signing I believe.... I expect Cole to keep the starting job after having a season of experience and AQ will be his backup. In that case, I believe it's a good signing if it's for backup money. Yeah we just need to wait until we see the contract til we go to bananas

Well they probably didn't spend much and it was as a backup in my opinion.

Well considering Cole looks to be the starter moving forward, Shipley isn't a bad backup... I don't see the big deal with this.
And for those saying David Johnson should be pissed off, well... you're wrong and don't understand sports I guess. This has nothing to do with him.

I dont get it. If Mason shows well (and I think he will) then we wont need Shipley.
Considering this deal came down when Keim was still basically gone (theres no way he came in and negotiated the deal his 2nd day back) it tells me that this was probably Mikes doing. Mike is a softy. Doenst have GM coldness to let hurt guys go. Saw AQ has a new baby. Gave him a new deal.

The new podcast Cover 2 played a sound byte of Wilks stating he and Keim were talking about extending him another year back in spring. It's possible the contract was already in the works before the suspension, then they finished negotiations after SK got back with AQ's injury in mind.

He got a 1 year extension, I'm not sure what the outrage is about.

But the timing still implies it was Mike who pulled the trigger. Couldve been Mike went up to Keim and said "remember those talks we had with AQ, lets go ahead and do the deal".

I think it's a bad move. He really wasn't all that good to begin with, and we have Cole and Boehm. One of them should be better than Ship. If not both.

He got a 1 year extension, I'm not sure what the outrage is about. Because it makes no sense and is a consistent theme this organisation shows. If your organisation is a winning one, fair enough, but for one like ours that has nothing to show, bucking trends like this might go towards helping us in the future. We could have waited till the spring as he is still under contract to see where he is with the rehab on his knee.

I looked into the Admin s/w this morning and, for now at least, I cannot easily activate a "Dislike" button. Some more research into Forum structures and advance s/w skills are required. P

It doesn't make sense to sign a center to be a backup for a year when your current backup continually hiked the ball at your rookies foot, the other probably isn't on the roster next year (Boehm), and your current one is a rookie that you don't even know if he's good? What is waiting in the spring doing as a fan, you personally still aren't gonna know where he's at and again you won't notice because ya know....he's the backup.

This move make perfect sense. Cole will be the center this year, and barring injury next year. Even though hes a smart young player, there is no way he has a total grasp of the offense, and doesnt know all of the calls to make at the line. I know this because Justin has been seen making some of the calls up front in practice.
This contract will keep AQ engaged not having to worry about next year.. He knows he still has a place here. Which will definitely motivate him to help get Mason ready. Hell be an engaged teacher and motivate. Brilliant by Kiem.
