First week back and SK makes a bonehead move, IMO. I'm sorry but you don't sign extensions to an older guy that just had a season ending injury. DJ has got to be a little pissed about this. Another reminder of the BASK era bleeding thru.
Maybe it works out, maybe not.

I appreciate the way the Cards Org is handling this. Go Cards!

Ask yourself, would BB and the Pats hand a year extension to a 32 year old below average centre who has just tore his ACL when he is a contract year? It is utter madness, we could have at least let him rehab and then make the decision at next spring.
Two more points though: 1. Boehm is gone. 2. If I am DJ, I am pissed off.

This is difficult to understand. Either it is a small thank you for his years service and availability (equivalent to a gold watch and a goodbye handshake), or another demonstration of the Badger Syndrome lingering in the management suite. Without knowing the extension details, it is on the surface a very strange thing, IMO. Nice for AQ, but strange. For someone who plays a position where there is high stress on the legs every play, a successful comeback would be unexpected given his age.
Who else thinks besides ItC thinks it might be because of one former lineman feeling sympathy for another in a bad situation? There is also the chance that a compassionate MB is the one responsible, and in that case a pat on the back - and a hope it does not impact the ability to pick up needed help as we certainly will.
Hopefully we will learn more details in the future, but for now it's another head scratcher.

I think it's too early to judge this signing. We need to wait until the terms of the deal are made public.
If the deal comes with no guaranteed money, or very little, I have absolutely no problem with this. If the deal has a bunch of guaranteed money, I would question it.

A real head scratcher for me. Must be plain old charity.

if it was charity they would have hired him as a spokesman or something so it doesn't come out of the cap.

This is really . Shipley had some success in BA's scheme because it hardly ever required him to move around. He's decent ONLY when asked to sit back and pass protect...that's it.
In McCoy's scheme, the center is required to run around a lot on screen plays. He doesn't fit with the scheme.
I don't understand what the rush to extend him was. It's not like Shipley's asking price was going to go up after the season.

And he was the starting center for 2 years? Why reward him? It's not like he was Darnell Dockett or Adrian Wilson, who gave their heart and soul to the Cards for years! Plus he was a BA guy, not a guy the new regime chose.

With this signing Keim must have fallen off the wagon. Perhaps thinking that they will have a ton of cap space next season so they can afford to do this the only justification I can think of.

Ask yourself, would BB and the Pats hand a year extension to a 32 year old below average centre who has just tore his ACL when he is a contract year? Today: Bill Belichick's only comment on releasing sidelined WR Kenny Britt: "He missed a lot of time."

This is just a depth signing I believe.... I expect Cole to keep the starting job after having a season of experience and AQ will be his backup. In that case, I believe it's a good signing if it's for backup money.
