Paying guys top at their positions when no one knows what happens to the cap the next few years might be a mistake. Time will tell though and I’ll be glad he’s under contract for a while for Larry to pass the torch to. We got an absolute legit WR1 before he retired. I concur with this. Due to kungflu & blm protests & don’t see how the cap could not at least contract a little. Considering he still had 3 yrs left on his deal as GM it may have been more prudent to see how this season shakes out before giving out big contracts. Didn't he leave Houston because they didn't want to extend him? He's an elite player and hopefully will be worth every penny.

So who got cut for Blackson then, and is the TE Thomas on 53 or practice squad please?

That might be the 'logical thing', but alas logic does not apply here. As Boomer has said the player wished to leave Houston because they wouldn't or couldn't pay him what he wanted and what he believed he was worth. Hopkins came here on the understanding that he would get a big upgrade/ extension in terms and now not honoring this would sour the relationship before it even got started. So, once the ink was dry on the transfer paperwork then he needed to be paid.

Very happy to see us extend Hopkins. All the way through 33, but going to be the guy for Km to throw to. Great day.
Only concern is that Hopkins has been given an extension before, then 2-3 years later came back asking for more. That lead to his trade here. Hopefully history doesnt repeat itself, but for the next 2-3 years we're looking great.

It should be pointed out that this new contract has a no-trade and no-tag clause.

It's on Twitter now. Dogbe has been cut, but there's space for him on the practice squad if unclaimed. Cantrell has been replaced by Thomas and P Richie Leone has been added.

I'd be very sorry to see us lose Dogbe, which is a possibility here. The FO have had a lot of positive things to say about him recently.
Blackson could be considered as the 'now', whilst Dogbe the 'future'. - This is a ruthless business, but there is little doubt that the Cardinals are going all in to WIN this season.

It’s not a small unknown but a BIG unknown how the 2021 cap will change & could put us in cap hell for yrs to come. All other major sports viewership is down quite a bit & I don’t think the NFL will be any different... Having him play the 2020 season is not unreasonable when there is 3 yrs left on his deal. Look what happened when we extended honey badger and David Johnson let’s not make those mistakes again.

If he wanted to, he could have been a huge negative presence. In fact, a possible outcome could have been a hamstring that had issues all year. Personally...I like the headline "Steve Keim makes a blockbuster trade and signs him to a long term deal" to "Steve Keim made a blockbuster trade only to fracture the relationship immediately". I understand your point though, and its a valid one given the issues involving this year. On the flip side, despite the lost revenue for this year, there is no guarantee that the cap will go down.

If DeAndre Signs for just under Julio Jones but with more upfront money He wins because of the Taxes Georgia has a state income tax 5.75% down from 6% Arizona 4.50% 20 million 900,010 at 4.50 % 20 million 1,150,000 at 5.75% I could use the $250,000 He is probably gonna surpass Julio in my opinion. 1st year here that usually means it could be a little down this year but next year he will nuke it.

I don’t think we are at risk of cap hell. I’m seeing the plan I think. We are all in this year and next, but avoiding long term hell. I no longer think chandler is a extension candidate, nor Peterson. Both will probably get the tag if they continue to perform for 1 year. The next 2 drafts we have to find those 2 replacements ( along with a guard, rb, and probably #2 reciever) I think fitz stays for the final year of window barring injury. It would be super nice to land a stud or 2 interior lineman in rounds 3-4 like a lot of teams seam to do!
