I grew up south of ST. Louis on old route 61/67 in Jefferson county way before the Cards moved from Chicago. Always was a Cards fan but the other team I followed was Green Bay with Taylor, Starr Fuzzy Thurston and Lombardi. There the ones that got me interested in football.

Live in Iowa, and originally was a Jaguar fan shortly after they came into the league, but went with the Cardinals during the playoff "run" in 1998, as I am an Iowa State fan, and the colors/logo reminded me of the Cyclones (Yes, silly reason, but I was 12, and didn't watch any sports outside of basketball until about 2000 - 2002).
Also a Bears fan, as my best friend is a HUGE Bears fanatic, and his brother is quite possibly the world's biggest Jaguars fan. I cheer for the Cardinals no matter what, the Jaguars unless they're playing Arizona, and the Bears unless they're playing Arizona or Jacksonville.
Also a Sun Devil fan (after Iowa State of course) by extension of the Cardinals formerly playing in Sun Devil stadium, Jake Plummer, Pat Tillman, and a couple of old friends when I was younger went to Arizona State.
Diamondbacks fan as well, due to them being expansion team, was a HUGE Suns fan as a kid with Kevin Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Dan Majerle (Magic are my number one NBA team though).
Coyotes and Blues for NHL, but I will admit, somewhat of a fair weather fan between those two.

Grew up in Chicago with Walter “Sweetness” Payton and William “Refridgerator” Perry posters on my bedroom walls, and knew all the words to “The Super Bowl Shuffle”. Ditka. Da Bearrrs! Crushing the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Then blessed with the 6 Championships of the Bulls and Jordan, Pippen and Rodman. Came to ASU in 94 and started hitting Cardinals games at Sun Devil stadium, but was mainly a fan of SD football, in school with Plummer and Tillman. When they became Cardinals, I became a Cardinal. Sounds familiar DH. Grew up on the southside as a Cub, Bears, Bulls fan. Was able to experience joy in all of the moments you mention above. Came to the valley 21 years ago and became immediate Dback fans and suffered through the tough times at Sun Devil stadium also. My son grew up here (ASU alum) and is a die-hard DBack/Cards fan, it was brutal sometimes taking him to the games at SDS, he is rather loyal and not afraid to speak his mind when he was 6-7 years old. Came close to fisticuffs a few times. It has been a complete turnaround with the new stadium and Michael B taking over the reins. Still follow the Bears and Cubs somewhat as both of my brothers are still in Illinois and huge fans. Looking forward to them coming out for the Bears game in November.

I too am a fan of the Broncos. Grew up a Bronco fan, as I originally took a liking to the horse mascot and logo (I was 5). Also, that was the time of John Elway and Terrell Davis, so the Broncos were on tv quite a bit, and they were the ones I saw most often. As I got older, I started following the Cards, and all local teams, more as I developed more of an appreciation for growing up and being from Arizona.
Teams kind of sit at a 1 and 1A, but have been feeling more of a pull towards the Cards in the past few years. Will still pull for both regardless, but a little torn on which one is where in the pecking order right now.
"Pecking" order. Ha. Comedy.

I think I'm a lot younger than most of you because I've only liked the Cardinals. I was part of the '08 bandwagon. My first game at UofP stadium was the 49ers game that year where they had that epic, last-second goal line stand against Frank Gore to win the game. I've been a fan ever since, even in the DA, Skelton, Max "Moxie" Hall, Kolb years. Who remembers that 4-0 year feeling on top of the world only for the team to go 5-11??? Anyways, if I had to pick another team to be a fan of, it would probably be Jacksonville... but... I don't know. My emotional connection to the Cards is too strong to divide my attention to any other team. Even paying attention to the other hometown teams feels a little like cheating

I have been a Cardinals fan since I was like 7. Living in Ohio I started out rooting for the Bengals and Dolphins, but as I became more aware of football and the various teams I found myself drawn to that team with the nice red jerseys and pretty red bird on the helmet. A year later I moved to Phoenix and by the time the team moved to Arizona I was in my early teens and already a diehard fan.

Born and raised in Southeast Mo. near the bootheel. Became Cardinals fan as a kid in the early 70's until they left for Phoenix in late 80's. I was mad about them leaving and felt betrayed and quit following them. I never really warmed up to the St. Louis Rams but became a huge Kurt Warner fan from the Greatest Show On Turf years. When the Cardinals acquired Kurt, I decided to come back and become a fan again. Something about the red and white jerseys and the bird on the helmet just felt right. Since Michael has taken over the operations of the team the Cardinals have become respectable again and am proud to be a Cardinals fan.

I started following the Cardinals in 1967 after they brought in young Jim Hart who played QB after Charlie Johnson. Bad teams til Coryell got to town, my they were fun to watch. Metcalf in his rookie season was exciting right out of the gate. OJ Anderson the same. Loved the ups and downs of being a Big Red fan through the years.

I'm an Arizona native so I got to adulthood without an NFL team in Arizona. Sometime in the early 70s (7-9 years old, I'd guess) I latched onto the Redskins because I thought they had cool helmets. Me and a high school friend of mine were the only Redskins fans of which I was aware. So that was that, then they win a Super Bowl in '82 and Redskins fans are everywhere (big surprise, I know). Anyway, the Cardinals arrive in '88 and they're my favorite team. It's funny when I watch the Cardinals play the Redskins how I 100% want the Cardinals to win. I always root for the home team. Sad part is that I grew up an obsessive Suns fan, now I don't think I can name five guys on the roster. I gave up the NBA probably in the mid/late 90s due to boredom. I grew up in the Oregon before Seattle. Had an NFL magazine when I was 4 or 5 and told my Grandma and Grandpa I like the bird. They vacationed to Arizona and brought me back a ton of Phoenix Cardinals merchandise. I blame them. Least I was smart enough at such a young age not to be a Cowboy or Niner fan as my respective parents.

My dad was a Steelers fan, so growing up in the 70s, I preferred them to The Cowboys. Then I stopped caring about football. Moving to Phoenix in 2004, my ex- was a fan and got me onboard. Even kept my season tickets when I moved to CA in 2012.

As I thought about what may be an interesting thread for this new msg board, I had know idea it would blossom into such a personal array of cardinal fanship journeys. I’ve enjoyed reading all of your reply’s. It’s a slice of Americana and our relationships through not only the cards, but the nfl. Thanks!

I am not really sure the exact moment I became a diehard Cardinals fan. I live near the Toronto area, and didn't have a team for the longest time. I just simply enjoyed watching football. I was a big fan of Warner, Fitzgerald, and Boldin though. The more I watched them, the more attached I got to the team. I haven't looked back!
The only other teams I root for are the ones with former significant Cardinals players (ie. Campbell in Jacksonville).
I haven't actually gotten the chance to speak face-to-face with another Cardinals fan! As I said, I live near Toronto, so we have a mixed bag of fandom up here. Lots of people cheer for the Bills, Cowboys, Jets, Raiders, and 49ers. I do remember seeing one person in the grocery store wearing a Cardinals hat though! That's about as close as I have come to seeing another fan, lol.
So, needless to say, this Cardinals forum must live on! I need to talk Cardinals with somebody!
