With bye week ahead I thought it could be a fun little thread to start with everyone naming their favourite cardinal off all time.
Mine would be #37 Larry Centers. His numbers didn’t really pop outside a couple of good years but he was the heart and sole of the offence. I remember getting something like 200 catches a season with him on madden.
Fun fact: He was also the body double for Cuba gooding jr in the movie Jerry Maguire.

Centers who was a player from Texas who played for 1-AA Stephen F. Austin an undersized player at his position also shined as a receiving weapon unique to his position and became the heart and soul of the Cards. I like unique players as well...I chose a rookie. A small town kid from South Dakota Tip Reiman. How can anyone not like a man who loves the violence of football yet his hobbie is a potter. Both players are examples of the complexity of humans. As Centers changed a position...Tip is a throwback to his position. I love players who are happy to be able to play the sport and their love of the game is expressed in the look on their face without a word said. One of the things that I like about Tip is live during the game I do not notice his play. Then I go back and when diagnosing what is going on replaying the game...he is eye catching. He is my favorite he grabs my attention. I love history and individuals of the past, I also enjoy the here and now...my choice in the here and now has very little history on the team and I am curious how or if the coaches expand his role going forward.

I noticed your post last week about hoping to see Tip get some receiving action in the jets game and then looked forward to the possibility myself. Maybe after the bye they will throw him a bone. I've seen him catch the ball in college clips, no reason not to let him enjoy that part too...

Sorry Aussie for throwing off the thread with a current player. I love another RB Ottis Anderson...let me watch Anderson listening to Redding...I love me some Ottis'.

As for a player, There is no question it is LARRY FITZGERALD #11. He actually had the Super Bowl one for us vs the Steelers. Until the defense collapsed. No other player had ever done that. The Green Bay playoff game was another feat where he took over the game. I want to give credit to the offensive line coached by Jim Hanifan. In 1975 The Cardinals only gave up 8 sacks in season. Not only that but they went some games into the next season still not giving up any sacks The Cardinals led the league for 5 YEARS FIVE not letting the QB get sacked under Jim Hanifan. Please read the article, You will see what he told OT Orlando Pace who he mentored. All the Cardinals on that line became ALL PROS only OT Roger Finnie who as a UPI All pro with the Jets was not a All Pro with St, Louis. I dont know of another line that had that many all pros. I watched the Pro Bowl one year the entire right side of the line were Cardinals in the game. www.laduenews.com/arts-and-culture/entertainment/remembering-jim-hanifan-st-louis-sports-legend/article_efb32d28-6d57-11eb-8cbb-c335343e08df.html

When they played at Sun Devil Stadium, we’d have our section chant “He isn’t Larry Left, He isn’t Larry Right, He’s Larry Centers!” But my all time favorite will be Larry Fitzgerald. I liked Neil Lomax and Roy Jet Stream Green too!

MOST UNDERRATED CARDINAL OF ALL TIMENEIL LOMAX 1984 4616 yards 28 TDS 16 INTS MADE ALL PRO Only Carson Palmer has passed for more yards in a SEASON 4671 He was sacked 49 times Folks He played on bad teams but only a hip injury short cut his career. He was sacked 61 times in 1985. Lomax took a beating. Plus he was a good guy on and off the field. 1987 MADE ALL PRO 3387 YDS 24 TDS 12 INTS Sacked 48 times www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/last-cardinals-qb-to-throw-4000-yards-in-a-season

For me it's #11.... His loyalty, that historical playoff run and lets not forget he single-handedly almost won the Cardinals their 1st super bowl.. The entire stadium chanting LARRY, LARRY, LARRY after every play is something else, I've never seen anything like it...

All you have to do is look at my avatar to know mine.
It's not that I think he was the best Cardinal player, but he was my favorite because he was so much fun to watch.
He was relatively small for a RB at 5' 10" 185 LBs. Despite that he was hard to tackle, had great run instincts, balance and could change directions on a dime.

I would like to give an honorable mention to Night Train Lane...he started in the NFL as a walk on try out for the Rams after a four year stint in the Army and playing for an Army squad then working as a sheet metal worker in LA at an aircraft plant.
Humble start in life doesn't signify his start. A child of a prostitute and a pimp and his dad said he had to go...landing him as an infant abandoned in a garbage can wrapped in newspaper. Later in life as a youth playing pool he gets the nickname "Queball" when the guy he beats chose to run off rather than paying his lost bet...a well aimed throw of the que-ball was his reaction.
Opposite of royalty and a man who had to earn his way in a unconventional way into the NFL hall of fame. A great CB and tough man who was a tacking machine as well as great at intercepting passes. A true American story of climbing to success through hard work and adversity. A choice of hard work or playing FB can also be of great motivation.
He learned to grab players around the neck allowed him to hit the bench quiker over conventional tackling that would allow players to extend plays and get first downs.
A player with Cardinal and Detroit Lions history...there seems to be current ties between the two teams that have been good for the Cards.
