Maybe the draft? It's not supposed to be a strong class, but there are a few guys with decent grades via PFFs big board. Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss I was mentioning Jaxson Dart year before last as someone to keep an eye on given I knew we weren't going QB last year unless we did it later rounds. Other than Carson Palmer I've never been high on USC guys, but Dart escaped a bad situation at Southern Cal and has been pretty consistent at Ole Miss despite not having as much talent to work with as some of the last few Ole Miss QB's. He's less of a system QB than some of the previous Ole Miss guys, stronger all around, yet weaker in a few areas. The thing I've kept an eye on with Dart is his top RB left Ole Miss this year and went to Ohio State, so while his teammates have picked up some slack, I've always been more partial to QBs who prove they can do 'more with less' and elevate the talent around them. Dart definitely has done that despite losing so much offensive support over last few years. This definitely isn't a situation where he's got Malik Nabors and a stacked supporting cast like the LSU kid last year. Something else to keep in mind is this. Ole Miss only two losses were by 3 points each and neither were Dart's fault. So he's played consistent most of the year which is something I didn't see from the LSU QB last year. I'm not saying he's got the same arm talent, and he does have some flaws, but that also means he probably won't cost you a top-5 pick either. The biggest issue I see is this. Our cap is cleaned up, so while we could go QB early, and should consider it, it would ONLY make sense if we spend heavily in Free Agency on defense. I also don't know that Murray would do so hot if he's got a younger dude pushing him. He probably needs an insurance guy behind him like Tannehil, someone he knows he wouldn't be competing with. This year's QB class will be deep, just not particularly loaded with 'elite' talent. For that reason, I think we probably look at going QB in round 2 or 3. I expect next year's class to provide plenty of solid back up options, but I can't see more than 2 or 3 ever being starter material. I have a feeling someone like Carson Beck might slide and wouldn't be a bad back up option. Ps... Ole Miss did get some quality transfers this year, but it was mostly on the defensive side of the ball, which is the primary reason they've got the record they do. He was ranked at about 100 on PFFs big board....but it hasn't been updated in a bit. Both players in that post have 90+ grades. If one is available in round 3...why not? I havent watched a single game from any of these guys, gonna have to defer to you college guys.

Regarding Belac44's original concern, I'm not giving up on QB Tune to gain a decent backup quarterback status. He's barely out of rookie diapers. His one challenging game as the starter in 2023 was a genuine setup--for failure. I was glad to see HC Gannon give Tune the last five minutes of the blowout against the Jets last weekend. I thought Gannon should have given Tune the fourth quarter to see if he could manufacture a long drive or surprise us with another TD. Instead, Tune had 5 minutes left on the clock and was directed to hand off the football to backup RBs when Tune did take snaps. What happened? Nothing. Gillikin had to punt soon after that. That's not how to test a backup QB's ability to execute difficult plays under pressure. If Tune was only a bag of doorknobs and useless, Ossenfort would have sent the young man packing. Gannon does not suffer fools on the field. He said so. Someone had a question for Urban over at the team website in his weekly "Mailbag" and they sounded like your post. Darren rebuffed the question, pointing out that JG has that old school mentality of not running up the score on a thoroughly defeated team, but also stating that Tune coming in was about two things... removing Kyler and running out the clock. Gannon didn't do it with 5 minutes left with the idea of seeing how well Tune could perform in the final minutes. It wasn't about Tune for Gannon.

I follow Ole Miss and some other SEC schools closely. I liked Kelly years ago. Did he have some immaturity issues? Sure. But the tools were always there. I don't think he's anything at all like Kyler though. Kyler is far more mature 'off the field' but I always felt Kelly was light years ahead of Kyler 'on the field' in terms of mental stuff. Looks like both are now maturing in their deficient areas. When I look at the last four Ole Miss QBs that were worth a damn, including Dart who is there now. The one thing where I place Kelly above all of them is on field leadership. All of these Ole Miss QBs have talent, and Dart's probably going to end up with the best NFL Career, but Kelly is one of the rare 'Foxhole' QB's, more akin to Favre. Many, maybe 98% of QBs tend to be guys that you wouldn't want to be in a Foxhole with. Kelly is that guy that you know will stay in the pocket and take that giant bone crushing hit to deliver a TD strike. I didn't see how he got hurt but makes me wonder if his heroics are what got his leg broken. Is he the type guy I'd name Godparent of my kid? Heck no. I'm not sure I'd want him after than leg injury though. Besides, we can easily get Jaxson Dart or some other QB who falls in next years draft. Like Allar. I also still think Tune is developing. We just need to spend 4th round picks on QBs the next few years. One of them will hit.

I have never actually watched him play, but I'm one that gets intrigued by players in the draft that are close relatives of past ballers. If his uncle Jim spent much time with him growing up, he may have taught him a thing or 3 about the nuances of the position. His early exploits in social behavior definitely gave me pause though. Like I mentioned, he's 30 now so hopefully has grown out of that phase? Still...that fact alone would possibly be ample reason for JG to not consider him. The article did say he is expected to be healthy in 3 to 6 months, so that makes me wonder what actually took place.

The saying is true, "Ignorance is bliss". Chad Kelly may be a pretty good QB, at least in the CFL, but he would not last 5 minutes in the NFL, on any team. I'm sorry I ever brought up his name. HARD PASS!! The dude just doesn't learn from his social missteps and was barely able to continue playing in the CFL after a NINE game suspension. He would be lucky to be allowed into SFS to WATCH a game, let alone ever PLAY in one. What a waste.

The #1 PFF Rated QB will be available 5th round or later (despite playing 2 games with a splint on the thumb of his throwing hand)- KURTIS ROURKE - Indiana U. He is 6'5" and 231 lbs. with a TD/INT rate of 21/4 and an unheard of QB Rating of 182.7.
Remember Bill Parcells criteria is he wanted a QB to have 35 starts and at least 23 wins in college before drafting a QB -- by the time IU finishes its 2024 season, Rourke will have 48-51 starts and 31-34 wins (these latter 2 stats depend on status/performance in the College Football Playoffs). Right now he is 25-6 as a starting QB since 2022 while most likely finishing his college career with at least 10,500 yards passing.

Not a recommendation at all, but in view of his Arizona connection I wondered if the forum membership had a view on Noah Fifita? www.profootballnetwork.com/noah-fifita-draft-scouting-2025/Being of smaller stature, then his profile might be a 'fit' behind Kyler Murray on the roster (that our Offense will be in sync with a player having his type of strengths/ weaknesses). Just a thought and it would be interesting to read the views of anyone who knows him well/ watched him play etc.

Saying he wouldn't last in the NFL is akin to tossing in the towel on Murray after bad season or two. Kelly made a ton of top rated SEC talent look silly. Guys that are in the NFL. It's like saying Nkemdiche lacked the talent to play in the NFL. Talent wasn't the reason either failed. It was immaturity. I haven't followed Kelly at all over the last few years so I have no idea what he looks like now. And with this being a deep draft at QB, one without high end elite talent, I don't even care to look at Kelly over say Dart, Allar, etc.. Waste is the KEY word, not deficient talent. I don't feel particularly inclined to give the kid another chance because I've always felt kids with professional family should know better. Jim Kelly was there for him, which makes me more likely to not look past his past actions. But I've also never been the best at giving folks second chances. I like drafting grown ups and not waiting for kids to mature. Another reason I prefer veteran QBs. But if the kid actually matured, he could make it in the NFL. His tools are better than much lesser QBs playing in the league. And right now I don't see a ton of QB talent in the league. With guys like Brady and Peyton retired, and the Jet's QB near washed up at the moment, there are only a few young guys on the upswing. If we pass on a QB in next year's draft, I hope we take a look at the Nebraska QB, assuming he keeps developing. He's the one everyone loves comparing to Mahomes.

I meant I doubt he'd last 5 minutes before he s--- the bed with some brain dead stunt and was thrown out on his ear. I even wonder if the NFL would allow his entry into the league. P.S. The ignorance is bliss was about me bringing up his name without checking out his recent history.

Several weeks ago I highlighted IU's QB as a "sleeper" whom Monti should consider around the 5th round or so but now the33rdteam.com has a feature article just this week on the IU signal-caller - Kurtis Rourke - Sleeper QB in 2025 draft

If we become a true playoff contender or Super Bowl contender next season, we absolutely positively need to have a much better backup QB than Tune...
We either have to FA, Trade or Draft a QB...
I think drafting a QB is our last option unless Monti and J.G. know or strongly feel that there is a Tom Brady caliber player later in the draft...the chance of that happening though would be like the chance of winning the lotto...ha ha ha...
So, do we FA or Trade for a backup QB next season? I don't think we will FA or Trade for a Pass Rusher next season...I see us drafting a Pass Rusher in the 1rst or 2nd round of the draft next season dependent on how Darius Robinson and Baron Browning do the remainder this season. Because we have to draft before we can see how Ojulari will play next season, he would not be a factor in drafting a Pass Rusher.
So, if we use our first 3 to 4 picks next season on Pass Rusher, CB, RB or Interior Oline, that would mean we could draft a backup QB from the 5th round or later. I have no clue which college QB's could be better than Tune or good enough to replace Murray should we be in Playoff contention. As long as we don't end up with a worse backup QB as in Thomas Logan or Ryan Lindley...
I mentioned Trey Lance somewhere on a thread awhile back...but...that would be more of a gamble than paying more for a proven back up like a Flacco...hey...what about Aaron Rodgers? I really don't like him, but I am pretty sure he will be gone from the Jets next season and he has made it evident that he wants to play next season. Would he take a backup QB position? I don't think he any team will take him as a starter QB...how would the Cardinal fans react to having Rodgers as a backup? Would he take a backup QB position if he truly wants to play? Just a thought...I have not really looked into what QB's will be available as a backup whether they are starters right now or backups for another team....
