VJ is likely out as candidate per above. Why keep a coach when you went outside to hire a outside GM. Odds for Flores as HC just go better It would be kinda hard for VJ to make a scene if Flores is hired.

Revenge of the Birds touts Flores in latest article - Flores is the Alpha Coach needed by the Cardinals

Hard pass on Flores. He hasn’t sat as a DC long enough after his crappy stint with the Dolphins. We are not in a position to gamble on what ifs. We need a proven commodity that has built teams from the ashes which is what we are. We are worse than The Aints which he turned around. Long history of losing Front office that is a crap show No accountability with coaches An owner who doesn’t know what he is doing That is our legacy right now.

And I’m wondering how all that sits with Payton saying that ownership and front office are important to him?

There is a LOT of work to do for the GM -- I do like the fact Ossenfort will probably be at the senior bowl with the contingent of scouts. I would hope the meetings with Flores and Payton happen soon (former later this week and latter maybe on Monday). It appears MB might move quickly weighing the $$ cost of SP/Fangio (if interested) vs. a Brian Flores hire for HC handpicked by his new GM.
My feeling is SP/Fangio costs too much and SP mentioning to Cowherd about maybe waiting until next year might be a bit of a signal that he doesn't believe any of the four openings who've gotten permission to interview him are perfect locations. It seems MB's due diligence has sent him onto the Pats tree and allows him to save quite a bit of $$ but from a PR - stance talk about culture change to the "Patriots Way."
The K2 "summer camp" will now be Patriots way old school training - well at least the team will have the Pats HC & GM's phone #'s to call about draft compensation for DHop.

Though under his father, I remember ownership went outside the organization and hired Buddy Ryan. I just hope things go a little better this time around. If I hear, you got a winner in town, Im done... lol

Has really strong working connection to Flores…would kind of be surprised if that’s not who he goes with as his pick for HC.

Thoughts:
1. Most important…it’s no longer Keim. 2. Glad Bidwill went outside the organization. 3. Looks like Bill wanted someone whose strength was Keim’s weakness…the draft. I hope it truly is, and that when with the Patriots he was a part of the Patriots organization’s willingness to trade down for picks, and both the Patriot’s and Titan’s willingness to draft for the lines. I need to research their drafts more where he was involved, but they always seem strong up front. 4. I hope he also learned some of the Patriot discipline in cap management and willingness to trade to avoid contracts that can handicap a team long term. 5. I wonder if this raises our shot at a trade of DHop plus later draft compensation for pick #14 of the Patriots, something I’ve suggested in my “If you were GM” post. 6. This move makes SP as HC less likely IMO because a draft-centered guy isn’t going to want to lose a high pick and there are no current reported connections between him and SP. However, the NFL is a small world and if BB vouches for MO to SP, who knows? 7. This move also makes Flores seem most likely on the surface. If that is true, I’d be very concerned about the OC position. Kyler needs an offensive minded coach, and if it’s not the HC then OC needs to be the guy.

Flores would be a disaster. He was horrible with the Dolphins. He was another failed Patriots assistant coach. I really hope this GM doesn't hire another retread like Flores

WF gives the hiring of Ossenfort ... a C- grade. As I posted yesterday after the announcement, this GM pick makes me pretty nervous. I mean the 2019 draft for the Pats looked like a SK draft with first round bust N'Keal Harry as their 1st rounder. The Pats missed the playoffs this year because they no longer have TB and their drafts from 5 yrs ago to present haven't been great. I don't know if I am more sad or mad that this forum can have a thread of GM candidates and there are at least four or more whom would have been a better hire. In fact MB has been looking for awhile and talking with people around the NFL for candidates -- I am now wondering on whose advice this hire was made. Picking a GM who was the college scouting director should be the easiest thing in the world since you can get your secretary to print out a list of the last 5 drafts in which Monti was involved. This simple evaluation and review could be done in less than a hour. Anyway - guess we'll know in the next 4 mos or so on how Ossenfort deals with the #3 pick, FA period, DHop trade, HC/OC hire and the overall draft. I am trying to be hopeful but I feel a dread of sorts ....hope the next 4-5 mos proves me wrong. Walterfootball gives the Ossenfort hire a C- grade

I think Belichick made all the pics though...his war room was his home and consisted of him and his dog on draft day. It's hard to tell if he went against the big board that the scouts developed for him.
That said, I share your trepidation.

Saw this at Urban's blog on January 16th: "Other than Buddy Ryan's tenure as head coach and GM in 1994 and 1995, Ossenfort is the first Cardinals' GM to be hired from outside the organization since Joe Sullivan came from Washington and manned the role from 1973-79. Larry Wilson was in charge from 1980-1993, and after Ryan, Bob Ferguson, Rod Graves and Keim were all promoted from within the team." Mike Bidwill is serious about a different process is in place for hiring the next GM and HC. I am optimistic that the next HC will also be an outsider.
