GDT is open for Forum posts. SNF game review:
The primary reason to watch this game is because of QB Tom Brady. This game is probably the last time we see the NFL's GOAT QB vs. the Cardinals. Your kids and grandkids will talk about this game for decades and say, "I was there virtually!"
These two teams did not play each other in 2021. On Sunday night, the Buccaneers offense seeks to play a complete game like first half vs. Bengals last week. The Buccaneers second half vs. the Bengals was an unmitigated disaster with huge mistake after huge mistake being made by the Tampa home team.
The Buccaneers face a Cardinals team Sunday night that has given up the most points in NFL this season at 26.6 points per game. The Cardinals defense ranks 32nd in Red Zone, 25th on 3rd down, 25th in sack %, 23 in INT %, 23rd vs. the pass.
QB Tom Brady is struggling to maintain GOAT behaviors this season. The Buccaneers team is decimated on offense and defense and nowhere near the former Super Bowl caliber team that shocked the NFL just two years ago. The Buccaneers (6-8) are coming off a 34-23 loss at home in Florida against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Buccaneers gave up a 17-point lead and did not compete after halftime. The Buccaneers have lost 2 games in a row and 3 of their last 4 games.
The Cardinals (4-10) lost in dismal fashion to the Denver Broncos, 24-15. The Cardinals actually led that game at halftime but could not stop the Broncos run game in the second half. The Cardinals have lost 4 games in a row and it is not likely the team will win another game this season. The Cardinals were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention with a 24-15 loss to the Denver Broncos Sunday on the road as 1.5-point underdogs. It was their 4th consecutive loss and 6th in 7 games.
The Cardinals slipped to #30 in the most recent NFL Power Rankings, barely ahead of the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears. Last week, the Cardinals were ranked #25. The Buccaneers are #24 in the most recent NFL Power Rankings.
Losers of 6 of their 7 seven games, the Cardinals now have a chance to pick inside the top 8 for the third time in five years, where they could add help for QB Kyler Murray (or other QB) or a defense that was without its top three cornerbacks on Sunday vs. the Broncos. Because the Rams lost to the Packers at MNF, the Cardinals firmly sit at picking #5 in the first round of the 2023 Draft. The Draft order will move around a little bit more before the post-season wraps up in February.
QB Trace McSorleycould WILL start for the Cardinals on SNF--if QB McCoy's concussion protocol regimen continues until further notice per HC Kingsbury as of late Dec 21st. McSorley's stats for 2022 are what we expect from a 3rd string QB plucked off another team's PS earlier this season. Currently, McSorley has 166 passing yards, 0 TDs, and 3 INTs. His 2022 QBR is 13.6. His QBR at the Denver game was 9.2. I have never seen a lower starter's QBR in the NFL.
The Buccaneers are a 5.5-point favorite at the Arizona Cardinals and their State Farm Stadium on Sunday night. The line moved from 4 to 5.5 since Dec 19th. The over/under for the game is at 41 points and unchanged since McCoy went into concussion protocol regimen.
The Cardinals team is not going anywhere in 2022. The season is basically done for the team. However, individual players are working hard on personal goals. Example is JJ Watt's superb effort last week at Denver. He earned many 100s of thousand of dollars incentive pay for the 3 sacks gained, giving him 9.5 sacks for the season. Other Cardinals players are also worth watching to see how much extra pay the can earn for contract incentives.
Injury updates: (As of December 21) QB McCoy remains in concussion protocol. He is undergoing medical evaluation. His availability to play on Sunday is unknown at this time.
The Cardinals play their final home game of the year on Christmas against the Buccaneers. The Cardinals has a 1-6 record in games at State Farm Stadium this season. There is no homefield advantage for this Cardinals group for a couple years.
The NFL Week 16 game is scheduled to kick off at 6:20 p.m. MST (8:20 ET) on Sunday night. NBC will carry the game live. Broadcast commentators are Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Melissa Stark.
