ShipleyI know few here are high on A.Q. but this guy is articulate/smart and has the ability to stay healthy. Maybe he will never be an all pro, but I think he is solid. Most of all, I think our OL will be improved this year. The only thing that has to happen is our line stay healthy so they can gel as a unit. Shipley seems to have the genes to stay healthy. I've said this before, I would rather have a group of journeymen that play together all year, than a group of all pros that that get injured every year. When it comes to the OL, you just can't underestimate the value of a line that knows what the guy next to him can or can not do. This only happens with time spent together. Continuity is the key for good OL play.

Thanks Thomas for the link. Very good interview and shows AQ's minset and heart. As he said he is a 10yr Vet now, knows what a D will throw at him. And as was pointed out by Bickley and Co. there were only 27 O-linemen that started every game for their team in the Whole NFL last year. Let me say that again, Only 27 NFL O-linemen Started/played every game for their Team last year. And AQ has started the last 32 straight. "Key ability is Availability". That's AQ and that is why BA wanted him at Center. And is why Wilks and Staff did not try to replace him. They know what he brings to the table every game.

Shipley is reliable for sure but the middle of the oline has to hold up and not get ran over and I don't care whether it is him or someone beats him out for the job they have to hold up if we are gonna stand a chance this season. I personally am worried if they will remain healthy. All I know is in the next off season in free agency we need to add to the oline. and continue drafting for both lines. I am hopeful that the Diche will get things going and Golden and Jones will help the two guys in the middle of the dline. I know there are other positions of need but I want both lines to be a force on the team. I am a firm believer that the line play decides games. Protecting our Qb's and creating running lanes for DJ is the the no.1 priority though IMHO. I know a lot of guy's don't want to get ahead of themselves about JR but I am gonna say it I think we have a Qb if we protect him the sky is the limit and we know what DJ can be. We definitely need a Wr in free agency even though they are pricey. I think after watching SK at work this off season he is back and appears to be focused. I can't help but think if we build our lines this team is gonna be a juggernaut. I am so very confident this team is gonna be a team that will concern other coaches in the near future. I am trying not to be a homer this is just my observations. I am thinking SK seems to be at his best when his back is against the wall.

I am trying not to be a homer this is just my observations. I am thinking SK seems to be at his best when his back is against the wall. I think all of us have to rethink how our OL will perform in the coming years with Mike McCoy running the offense. Bruce Arians loved to run slow developing plays to get receivers down field for his "chunk" plays early and often. In doing so he was asking the OL to hold their blocks much longer than seemed reasonable or prudent and it can be argued that his offense was part of the reason that Steelers did not renew his contract as Big Ben was getting hammered on a regular basis and linemen were sustaining injuries for the same reason. If you are still working with the mindset that McCoy will be running the same offense, then yes, there should be some concerns but I am of the opinion that he will be much more adept at getting the ball out of the backfield quickly and not allow defensive linemen the time to get to Bradford or whomever we have under center. Shipley wasn't great at center protecting the middle but he should be good enough with an offensive scheme that is geared towards getting the ball our early and letting your receivers work for yards after the catch.
