GAME WEEK ARIZONA CARDINALS @ CAROLINA PANTHERS Last Sunday's Highlights Cardinals vs Rams Highlights Panthers vs Saints If you have the time, recommend spend 2-3 hours re-winding and forwarding the Rams at Cardinals game highlights from YouTube. Use the video stop/start function liberally in order to break down each second of film and the play action. I did that for most O/D plays. I learned a lot about Kingsbury's team and McVay's team on Sunday. The team and coaching differences are stark. The Cardinals player mental errors are so obvious to see which reveals the good players and bad players habits. I also contrasted Cardinals position players versus Rams position players. Wow, the differences in gameplay techniques are BOLD. I can only conclude that the Cardinals players are coached in the manner that they execute. Or, they are such bad players that no amount of coaching will correct their bad behaviors. Either way, it is no wonder that McVay has beaten Kingsbury nearly every weekend for over 3 years. McVay is smarter. His team plays smart football in comparison to the Kingsbury team. Key observations: Murray is in the shotgun and consistently not seeing or ignoring open receivers 5 yards past the line of scrimmage with no defender within 5 yards. That is an automatic 1st down -- if Murray throws the ball to the receiver and he catches the damned ball! Stafford saw his open receivers and hit most of them for chunk plays. We have observed Murray's bad habit for 3+ years and he is not going to change the habit or get taller. Murray is a good QB when the pocket holds up and he leads WRs with arcing passes downfield. Half the Cardinals receivers are 1/2 second or more late getting off the line of scrimmage and moving downfield on pass plays. In a few cases, Murray was in the shotgun and already has the ball in his hands before the receiver takes 1 step. A J Green was the prime culprit. I wonder about him these days. He was not looking at the Center or QB, did not know the count, or forgot the play. His contribution just does not work anymore. Plus, he drops passes too much now. On probable run plays, the Rams stack the box. Their DL are superior athletes. They push the Cardinals players away allowing penetration and tackles. Few Cardinals runs were effective. Murray was fearing for his life when scrambling. No wonder he sat down on the turf on that late sideline play. On defense, the Cardinals misplayed too many plays in the first half. Some guys were not paying attention, lost their guy in fakes and turns, were outmaneuvered in tight spaces, or just were sloppy on tackles. The result was big yards, gashing, and TDs. I noted that the Cardinals are good athletes but do not position themselves consistently to be in a position to stop a Rams player from doing his job. That is poor headwork. I blame coaching.

Listen…losing to Reid/Mahomes and McVay/Stanford…is understandable and somewhat expected based on injuries, player availability and KK coached teams not being in their class…but losing to Ruhle/ Mayfield is not…especially if we are to weather the storm until players get healthy and DHOP gets back…it’s a must win against a team we just don’t play well against for whatever reason.

Hurricane Ian, likely to be downgraded by the time it makes its way to that part of the country...might be a complication. I was very seriously considering going to the game at Charlotte since the schedule was announced. Last Friday, I found 2 tickets on an NFL reseller site for me and the Missus on the Panthers side of the field, facing the Cardinals bench, parallel to the 50 yard line area and in the first row upper deck with a killer field view, for just $450 each plus tax. Drive time 8 hours. Hotel another $200+. For $1500, I can have a good time sitting outdoors and enjoying a pro football game. I am not going due to the prospect of steady rain at Charlotte all game day. This is a crummy day for fans. It is going to be a good day for running the ball. Good luck Cardinals. 2-2 by end of Sunday afternoon.

Better lean on running game including KM1.

Great! We can’t run in perfect weather…can’t wait to see us try to run in a driving rain storm!

Great! We can’t run in perfect weather…can’t wait to see us try to run in a driving rain storm! At YouTube, are several examples of NFL teams trying to play football amid downpours on muddy fields. The video is about 40 mins. We know a few Cardinals legends that were caked with mud at old Busch Memorial back in the days before plastic turf. I don't think any Cardinals are highlighted in this video. For Sunday, thankfully the Panthers field is artificial turf. Drainage should be okay. I doubt rain will help the Cardinals offense. Who knows, the worst that can happen is zero TDs. The best is a 50 burger!
