I agree with a Dry Heat comment the other day that ILB's, RB's and Safeties can be filled by inexpensive vets I haven't got a problem with the drafting of Simmonds and Collins as such (in terms of their playing position). The key is how they adapt to the NFL and will each grow and become difference makers on the team? If so, I would say they were great picks! Drafting a Safety at the top of the second has served us well in the past, so hard to argue with that one. A Running Back would have to be 'extra special' and have blazing speed (for me) to consider for a second-round pick. the neglect of the CB room has been a monumental fail. I was well up for taking a CB in the first round this year, but evidently the FO had plans in another direction. We need the players on our current roster to step-up big time (at CB) and their sucess (or otherwise) could define our season. DRAFT - DRAFT - DRAFT is key to getting good young cheap players to takeover for aging vets Agree one hundred percent on that one!

There is no reason to criticize Isabella. He was an obvious reach and most of the astute fans called that when the selection was made. He was another Keim small school special where they ignored his competition in college and focused exclusively on his stats. As a result, Isabella was held to high standards. He was a 5th or 6th round pick who was drafted in the second round. And he might have developed into a better player had he gone to a different team with a better coaching staff and culture.
I do feel bad for these players. They can't come out and say the above for fear being labeled whiners but in reality that is the truth. You're telling me if this kid played with Tampa and Tom Brady, he wouldn't have some success or if he was drafted by the Steelers. A better organization would have treated him like a 3rd and 4th option and the pressure would have been off. He would have had a running game to take pressure off the pass. He would have been used in the slot. A better QB would have recognized his ability and take chances by throwing to him. Instead he ended up with us. The rest is history. As a result, the kid has lost confidence and momentum. He will never be the same.
This reminds of Quincy Carter, the former QB of the Dallas Cowboys. He was rated a 5th or 6th round QB but Jerry Jones reached on him in the 2nd round because he wanted a Michael Vick style players meaning fast with a strong arm ignoring the fact that he couldn't read defenses and was grossly inaccurate. Carter was a disaster. Bill Parcells would only have him read half the field because he wasn't capable of reading the entire field. Carter received so much criticism in Dallas. The poor kid should have never been taken that high or subjected to that type of criticism. He just wasn't that good but was put in a different category by his draft position.
