news.cgtn.com/news/2022-08-30/GJ-2-CH-4-UAVs-displayed-at-the-Changchun-Air-Show-1cVbp5ZPlCw/index.htmlI am impressed by the ability of the Chinese to almost exactly copy US UAV platforms. See Chinese CH-4 Rainbow and the US MQ-9 Predator, for examples. Next, the Chinese could be selling these damned things to whomever has a checkbook and an axe to grind with a neighbor. I cannot remember an aggressor using a UAV to recce or bomb a US target -- but it will happen someday soon. The skies over Ukraine are filled with Russian recce and armed UAVs. Losing a UAV is no big deal these days. The Chinese are actively marketing an armed UAV with precision missiles similar to the US model that recently killed renowned terrorist Dr. Zawahiri while he was sitting on the balcony of the house he was hiding in downtown Kabul AF. The UAV ways and means are a sign of the modern times. Tiny UAVs carrying tiny bombs cause almost no collateral damage. Manned combat aircraft are big, pricey, and way too risky to fly into threat zones with so many fire-and-forget SAMs looking upward. Manned combat aircraft are mostly easy to see and that means easy to kill.

www.politico.com/news/2022/08/30/first-iranian-drones-arrive-russia-00054158More bad news. Poor man's UAVs from Iran are soon coming to the Ukraine war. The Russians could soon be sending Iranian-built prop-driven armed UAV into battle at Ukraine. Does anyone think these cheapy 'drones' are anymore than a modern version of the Nazi V-1 buzzbombs of 1930-1940? Just add kerosine, some C-4, and a crush fuze. Let the unguided UAV fly down range and never worry about the bomb coming back home.

The use of and the capabilities of drones have been expanding almost exponentially over that last decade or so. And no doubt, the Chinese have stolen some of our technology to create their own. They are really good at that. About the missile that killed Dr. Zawahiri. It had no explosives. It seems barbaric, but no more so than being blown apart. At least it limited collateral damage. Also just today. Iran tried to intercept and steal one of our sea going drones....this one... Article hereThis drone has no offensive capabilities but I'm sure we have sea drones that does. Whether it be by land, sea or air, drones are the new thing. They are cheaper and you don't risk your own sides life's. This might seem like a good thing, but only if you are the only one that has them. As with all weapons, you may be the first, but others will soon have them too. Making war has always been an arms race. From caveman with sticks and stones, to arrows and swords, to gunpowder and on and on. It's so sad that throughout mankind's existence, we have put so much of our efforts into making better weapons than just getting along and using those substantial resources to better mankind.

Cool video, above! Shows the Iranians towing the drone probably to a nearby naval base for exploitation. U.S. 5th Fleet reconnaissance patrol spotted the IRGCN support ship "Shahid Baziar" clearly towing the USV around 11 p.m. local time Monday, August 29th. The merchant type ship released the tow line about 4 hours into the sail drone action. The US Navy probably made clear to the Iranian ship's crew that the US Navy was not going to allow Iran to steal the drone which was operating in international waters. Air, surface, and subsurface drones have been around a very long time and are widespread at government, military, and commercial activities. Armed drones are less prevalent, but very sneaky and extremely dangerous. Crime syndicates use drones to move contraband. My neighbor has a quad copter and uses it to take pictures of real estate for sale.
