Also, I seriously love that it’s freaking Pat McAfee that’s bringing so much attention to this You can tell how much people really enjoy being on the show, so much more entertaining than watching the cheesy, cliche interviews on ESPN or whatever The show is entertaining and informative. I cannot remember the last time I learned anything by watching ESPN or Fox Sports.

Proof what a farce the cap really is. Note the minus figures above, and McAfee explaining the cap "rules". When playing by the rules earns criticism, something (else?) is rotten in NFL Land.

Of course if Cards sign KM1 then the CASH payout goes way up. The CAP can be manipulated with voidable years, pushing $$ to future years (Saints have done this for years when they had a HOF QB and HOF Coach along with very good drafts - see 2017 draft below). The biggest key to managing the cap though is to DRAFT WELL !!!!!!!!!! You then have younger players' cheap salaries to replace vets who want too much money relative to production. Additionally when the team has a vet they want to retain - cap $$ to pay that player can be easily obtained by extending young players you want to keep in the core. Unfortunately the Cards have NOT drafted well in the last 5-6 yrs. Furthermore, even good players were wasted by having them play out of position (e.g. Reddick). Rams have basically traded draft picks to get really good players (i.e. Jalen Ramsey) but then they actually hit (coached up) the players they did draft in mid-rounds to help round out their team. The 2017 draft for the Saints allowed them to stay in the hunt even though Brees was on the decline. This is why my feeling is the failure in drafting should have caused an entire restructure of the scouting dept and GM. SK has been good at getting vet players by trading away draft picks but then unlike the Rams really didn't hit on mid-round draft picks with foolish 3rd round picks like CB Brandon Williams and the terrible Rosen trade draft wherein you pick 3 WR's and ZERO hit ... that was a killer which has caused the team to trade away a 1st rounder for a WR. Saints 2017 draft:In 2017, cornerback Marshon Lattimore (first round, No. 11 overall), offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk (first round, No. 32), safety Marcus Williams (second round, No. 42), running back Alvin Kamara (third round, No. 67), linebacker Alex Anzalone (third round, No. 76), defensive end Trey Hendrickson (third round, No. 103) and defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad (sixth round, No. 196) fit the physical prototypes, and showed the growth potential that was coveted by New Orleans under Jeff Ireland, the Saints' assistant general manager and college scouting director.

I am tired of it all, but what can we do? We all gripe a lot about the Cardinals CAP management, draft picks, and free agency. The team criticism is deserved based on the last 10 years of GM hits and misses.
Some of us think we can do a better job as team GM. Not me. I can only make things a lot worse. I am a decent judge of a person's character. I am a terrible judge of a person's athletic (physical/mental) skills. Only the latter GM quality matters on game days.
Soon, I think we will read a headline that states Bidwill ponied up $300M for his starting QB's contract extension. That spending won't fix the team's ugly history. But, it might settle the question about owner commitment to hanging onto his best players and paying them well. It might also set the stage for a competitive Cardinals team for the next 5-6 years.
