www.lamag.com/culturefiles/are-the-oscars-over-2/The Oscar's Awards process is changing starting in 2024. Supporters and critics express opinions about new eligibility criteria. I don't care much about people that congratulate themselves. The majority of films are not worth my time anyway.

I don't care much for the Osar's. In my long life I don't think I have ever watched the thing in its entirety. At most I might tune in at the end to see who won best picture. I kind of feel like you, it's just a bunch of people slapping each other on the back and telling each other how great they are.
I kind of like what George C Scott had to say about this....
"Scott refused the Oscar nomination for Patton, just as he had done for his nomination in 1962 for The Hustler, but won the award anyway. In a letter to the Motion Picture Academy, he stated that he did not feel himself to be in competition with other actors."
All the various nominations are very subjective. One mans best movie is another mans bore fest.
I don't go to the theaters anymore, I wait for them to show up on one of my cable channels.
As said, a movies worth or how much one enjoys it is very subjective.
Of recent movies ( well recent for me since I wait for them to come to cable ) Neither of these movies won a Oscar, yet I have watched both several times....that's something I rarely do.
While there is some action shots in this movie that are is good as they get, that's not why I liked it. Its the story about just how cruel war can be.
This next trailer may seem like its just another Clint Eastwood movie....but its not. I relate to this guy in so many ways. An old guy with lots of baggage getting wiser and better as he dumps some of his long held beliefs about the human race. He gave everything to help someone he never thought he would. Some tears were shed at the end.
I'm sure there may be one or two best picture movies that I liked, but not many. I guess that's why I pay little attention to the Oscars.

***Language warning*** Will Smith just smacked Chris Rock. Was it real? WOW, when I first saw that I thought it was rehearsed, but after hearing the language from Will Smith who has been very clean in his music and acting that is not acting. Chris Rock held it together very well.

Chris Rock held it together, maybe he'll think twice about making jokes about people's wives.

And no one defends Chris Rock? Uh, that was an assault folks. Or was it entertainment? Hard to know the difference in CA.
Another big name actor is still trying to worm his way out of killing a person with a gun on a movie set. I doubt that actor will do a day behind bars.
