Damned brilliant marketing at Austin TX. What's next? I take a pic of the QRC in the night sky, and hot pizza is delivered by a drone 20 minutes later? Or maybe aliens drop in with the pizza for a bite of me.

I actually had a conversation about this very thing with my dad today. He couldn't understand how this could even be done. He envisioned a couple of hundred people controlling each drone. While I don't understand how it's done, I know enough that it's done by computer control and each drone knows where it's at vs the other drones. It's both simple and complicated.
This is just another example how far technology has come. I can't wait to see what we can do in the near future. This kind of thing is not important, but the technology that can do this will lead to other things that are.

This is just another example how far technology has come. I can't wait to see what we can do in the near future. This kind of thing is not important, but the technology that can do this will lead to other things that are. An element not mentioned is precision navigation down to a couple feet accuracy. Numerous Austin ground-based transmitters are in touch with each drone during flight, to ensure each drone has adequate flying space to execute its flight plan. The math to make this happen is not hard to figure out. Computer programmers write and drive the entire flight program and light show. Clear and calm air is critical to a successful air show. I doubt more than 1 person is involved at the launch site--maybe two if a site safety person is required by the City of Austin. Otherwise, no one needs to be in the State of Texas. The entire drone flight can be run from a USAF van parked in the desert at Nellis AFB, as example. Something your pops might appreciate...the UFO flights and night lights sightings of the 50s and 60s era look absolutely amateurish and silly compared to the 100s of hi-tech purple LED lighted drones flying over Austin.
