This video may not be for everyone, but for those that's interested in vintage planes or even just how things work....this is for you.
The detail, graphics and simplicity that went into making to this is about as good as it gets. It's all low tech and a backyard mechanic can understand it all.
It's an engineering marvel all done without the help of computer design, and it went a long way in helping us win the war.
P-51 Mustang
My fault, but I just ran across this post.
In Korea '52 I was a crew chief on a '51. (two, actually but not at the same time)
This video is nice, but some little details are different from the "D" models we had
at the time.
The retracting tailwheels were fixed down permanently due to many problems.
The IFF systems and radar were removed. I guess being post WWII they were thought
to be unnecessary.
Some cockpit details were different.
Mustangs were great birds to be around and to have the privilege to work on (and fly
I imagine, never having had that chance). Taxiing and preflight runups were all
I managed back then.
Any questions? Fire away if so, and as memory allows I'll answer.
(I had a website all prepped and was almost finished with a memoir of those days,
with stories, descriptions and pictures. Alas, a computer crash lost most of that
work and it was never starter over. Still have the text and all the original pics,
but age is the great barrier now to ever trying again. Besides, all but one of my
buddies of those days are gone so nobody remains to look at it and remember.)
If any of you were into HTML back when it was new, you can imagine the learning
curve time involved for an amateur to work up a website. Changes since have left
me behind and too tired to learn new stuff, but maybe, someday, a WYSIWYG web
design program I have might be enough to make it possible.
Thanks for triggering some good (and some sad) memories.
I'll look at it and I will remember
Love to see what you have.
