Am I missing something? Why sign Zane and McCrane but still have Dawson kicking?
This team needs to plan for the future and Phil Dawson is NOT part of the future.
Maybe it's because of his accuracy? Lol. (He just missed the field goal attempt.)

Keim likes playing the player merry go round.

Make no sense that they didn't go with McCrane the rest of the year but Arizona is a prolly run team right now.

Today is a good day to cut Dawson and either promote Zane or bring back McCrane. Either one of them would be okay at this point. Dawson is done. His career has run it's course. Cut the deadwood now.

It doesn’t matter.. The team needs are overwhelming. A missed FG is nothing. There is a deep problem with this organization, and it starts at the top. SK is safe in my opinion. Can’t fire MB. We the fans just need to accept the fact that this coaching staff and a large percentage of the players don’t have a clue how to fix the problems. When any team just quits and team captains are just going through the motions. MB has to take a stand. If he doesn’t then he’s part of the problem.
SK should accept his responsibility publicly or be fired himself.

A missed field goal in a 45-10 loss is nothing on paper, but in the context of the game it was a massive turning point and I said as much to my friend as it happened. It was a momentum killer and completely demoralising for the team, but it is something Dawson has done since he got here so it is no surprise.
Cut Dawson, promote Zane and lets start the kicking tryouts for 2019.

Dawson was just put on IR.
And Gonzalez takes his place in the lineup.
He's probably OK, but I would have liked McCrane as well or better since he was perfect for us in preseason.
Assuming Wilks is who decided to play Dawson against the Chargers (knowing Phil has had a bad hip and did only limited practice) it is legitimate to put blame on him for the missed FG, IMO. I noticed Phil's last Kickoff was short and to the right side, too. He must have been hurting by then in the game.
Why Wilks/Keim could not see the handwriting on the wall when Phil started having problems I will never understand. There was McCrane available at first, then later Gonzalez too.
The old "never put all your eggs (trust) in one basket (player)" adage continues to be ignored by the Cards, to their detriment. And out of date eggs at that . . .

The way the K/P positions have been handled over the past few years has simply baffled me.

It's Zane Time. One of the best college kickers has 5 games to prove his worth.
something to be excited about.
