In this article, one line is VERY interesting - "Only three Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks since 2006 have had a cap number that was 10 percent or more of the league salary cap." .... NOTE: Going into this coming season, SIXTEEN QB's cap #'s are above 10% of the league's salary cap and Jimmy G. is almost 20% !!!!
IF .... Rosen can perform on a rookie contract (all of the other top QB's signed in this years draft are in the AFC) and in 2 yrs Goff/Wilson/Jimmy G/Wentz/A. Rodgers/M. Ryan/D. Prescott are all using up 12-17% or more of the salary cap, it will be the CARDS which could be in the best position to strike GOLD in 2019 - 2021 (especially 2020 - 2021). Smart moves in 2019 FA will be key as well as performing well with the draft during these years.

This is why I want to be patient spending money this year, unless it’s for a young player we think can be a key piece in the future. We need to install the new offense and defense and evaluate this year.

I don't know the nuances about how contracts and salary cap hits are structured, but I don't get the math Bucky Brooks is using. He claims Jimmy G is using up 20% of the $177 million salary cap. His contract is 5yr/$135mil or $27mil per year if you average it out. That's only 15% of the cap. He'd have to make $35.4 mil to take up 20%. That said, he makes a very valid point about overpaying middling QBs.

They are trying to frontload some of the contract since they know SB is not going to happen rather than deferring more of the total contract to future years where I am sure they believe more in their total team's ability to make the playoffs.

Thanks for the explanation, stv. That website is very helpful in seeing the details. Interesting on the cap hits of the Cards.
Hahaha, bigangelg. It never ends well for me when I call someone out. I'll leave that to guys that know what they're doing! After all, I'm just a bird brain.

Dang, I just noticed we had $20 mil in dead money, most of it being Badger and Palmer! The Cowboys were the only team I clicked on that had more at $24 mil.

And what % does Bradford take of our cap space.... Sam Bradford QB $5,000,000 $5,000,000 $625,000 - - - - ($10,000,000) $10,625,000 5.76
See last number, that is the Cap %, 5.76%, 4th highest on the Team.
Fitz is #1 at 9.13%, Chandler Jones at 8.4%, and then Pat P at 8.1%.

We also carry dead cap for Sam into next year if he isn't on the team. We are also carrying 6.25 million of dead cap for Palmer this year. Right now Sam and Palmer are 16.25 million on this years cap. If Sam actually plays 16 games and is cut I think we carry 10 million on dead cap for him next year. If he's on the roster next year it's 25 million about what Garapolo's cap hit will be next year. Of course Sam will only be our QB next year if he's both healthy and great. The way the contract was written it doesn't appear the Cardinals management actually believe that.

This was a smart move by the 49ers. They will not be cap strapped to make some moves or sign key free agents in the future. I think the rams run will be over after this maybe the following year and then watch out for the Cardinals and the 49ers. Seahawks are kinda reminding me of the colts a good Qb but the D is gonna be bad and no oline and not the best Wr's or RB's.

Last December, I was hoping the Cards would get Baker Mayfield. I assumed Darnold and Rosen would go #1 and #2 and I figured that Baker's antics would have him fall out of the top 10. I couldn't be more pleased with our selection. I am hoping that Sam Bradford has a really good season and Josh will be able to red shirt for next year. This will also give Keim the opportunity to fortify our offensive line to protect our QBOF.
