According to a source, this is why AJ Green was not prepared for that pass:
"According to one source familiar with the sequence, coach Kliff Kingsbury called for a pass play to the left, but quarterback Kyler Murray saw a more favorable matchup to the right, where veteran A.J. Green was one-on-one with journeyman cornerback Rasul Douglas. Murray then signaled for a back-shoulder fade to Green, but, the source said, Green did not see the change and failed to turn around while the ball was in the air, believing the pass was going to the other side of the formation."

Yes I'm sure something like that happened, but it's still not ok to completely zone out while blocking and completely shut down your awareness of the game. Especially for a highly paid vet. Especially in the end zone. AJ Green should not have to be warned in advance every time the ball is coming to him.

Green is not talking to anyone about the HC-QB-WR miscommunication on that final TNF play. After the HC and QB spoke on the matter after the game, Green's silence is a second critical miscommunication error, and an example of him not doing the right thing as a professional to ensure everyone moves on. He needs to own his part in the matter. Avoiding people for 10 days does not dodge responsibility. In fact, his behavior could additionally demonstrate personal immaturity and selfishness which manifests poor teamwork. He needs to be smart in the locker room right now even if he is routinely dumb with communications to outsiders.

Just because he isn’t talking about it publicly doesn’t mean he’s not owned up and discussed with coaches and Murray. I’m sure they’ve dealt with it and moved on more than us fans have and are preparing for the 49ers. I’ve frame by frame re-watched the play and it looks to me like the original play was an option to go to Ertz on the left who crossed the end zone line and turned, or Kirk who crossed and then cut right. If it was Kirk, it would make sense for Green to be trying to tie up his man on the left side of the field so he couldn’t react and move towards Kirk. Initially it looked like Green thought he was on a blocking assignment for a run behind him, but I think the Ertz/Kirk option is more likely. Kyler then saw the defense loaded up on the left side vs. the one on one matchup Green had against a practice squad level CB and “read the defense” as so many here were complaining about him not doing enough. Whatever the signal for the switch, Green did not see or hear it. I was right there…my bet is it was a word shouted out but Green did not hear it because the Green Bay fans were deafening at that moment. It was literally 4-1 Green Bay fans in many sections of the stands. They were louder than us…it was shameful. Watch the play…even Ertz and Kirk seem shocked. I’m wondering if no one got the memo an the change in play call.

I've not seen it back, but it looked for a second that Kyler considered trying to force his way in with his legs and Green was blocking off a defender. If we had a time out left, it probably would've been the right play.

Makes total sense to me.....

I'm over it. And I don't like to blame an entire loss on one player. If anything, Rondale Moore is more culpable. He cost us 10 points. The way I look at it, we should have never been in that situation. The defense couldn't stop the run all day and the playcalling on offense was lackluster at times. We did nothing to establish the run which led to our defense getting tired. AJ Green is a good receiver, time to move on.

About those loud GB-friendly fans, that's part of the game. Players train for the noise. No excuses for noise. I do appreciate that Green's teammates also possibly did not hear the KM play change. Audibles is another training issue to address.

Longest 10 days in Green's life. I for one feel bad for Green. As bad as we might feel, its a 100 times worse for him. I'm not even going to speculate how much blame should be on him or other factors. Football is a tough game and things happen. I hope we and him can put this behind us. Learn from it and move on.

As embarrassing as the final play was for AZ, I'm at least encouraged as the Cards basically gifted the Packers the win. Cards were awful offensively thru 3 plus quarters and still had a great chance to win on the final play against an NFC conference favorite.
Cards have not been a dominant home team. Gifted a win by the Vikes. Struggled against a 49er team and a rook QB. Handled the Texans as they should. Lost and looked out of sync against the Packers.
Going back to last season at home, you have a dominant win against the WFT. That's it. I feel better about the Cardinal's play when they're on the road.

Beating SF at Santa Clara on the 7th will put an end to this discussion. And a new winning streak will be initiated. GO CARDS!

Yeah, let's all jump on the rookie for screwing up and not chasing down the muffed punt and also playing volleyball with a Murray pass. We've all seen worse from the Cardinals. I'm still very impressed with the way the Cardinals athletes worked their butts off to get inside the Packers 5 yard line with <1 min to go. That was an exciting 95 yard drive even if it did end badly for the Cardinals and us fans.
