...has got to suck sometimes.
Watching the news feed about all the players being cut just plain stinks. For the new guys...it represents the crushing of one's dreams. For others, its just one more hurdle on the path to success. For the vets, it can represent a closure if this particular chapter of his life. Hopefully he made enough money while in the league.
Draft night is fun for the opposite reason, but GMs have to deal with this every year. It's why they payed the big bucks after all. I don't envy their jobs in August...or Black Monday when they might get fired themselves.

As I said many of times, pro sports is a business first and a lot of tough business calls have to be made. The only person who is guaranteed a job at the end of the day is ownership no matter what decision they make or dont make. And the way pro sports have setup finances, win or lose they still make money.

From what I gather, Meyer saw him like a son. That's rough.

It was a movie...and a bit of a lousy one...but I been told by a former AZ coaches son that the Draft Day movie definitely helps provide some of that crazy insight that real GMs do. That movie showed that GMs dont always make their picks, signings, or plans. Coaches, ownership, players can interfere. One instance I was told here was that the Michael Floyd pick was LF applying pressure for a #2 WR. The quote I was given during that draft..."never mind what your scouts (who have spend a year on this) say. Just go with what LF demands". Has to be hilarious and sad if that was really the case!

Then there was BA getting his way with Logan Thomas.... LT? OMG! That VT pick by BA has to be the most bone-headed picks since the Bill (Dollar Bill) Bidwill era, when the old man would wet his pants over picking some corn-fed local and not even consider a scout-recommended player outside the Big Ten and Big Eight conferences. I never did understand the LT pick. BA just was full of himself that day.

Perseverance...kudos to him.

Floyd was David Boston 2.0 in my book. Played out pretty similar.

Are you kidding me? The GM job is arguably the safest in the NFL. If your team succeeds, you are credited with drafting well. If the team struggles, the coaches and players are to blame. Keim has gotten a royal pass. He hired our last coach who got fired after one season. After this season, his head coach will be fired again yet he will retain his job.
Arians essentially left because of Steve Keim. He didn't trust the direction the organization was going in so he "retired" and then when he was given another head coaching job a year later, he jumped at the chance. Arians didn't want to go down with the sinking ship so he left when he still had his reputation.

Cards scouts on college players has been hit or miss but a LOT of misses when drafting WR's and Offensive Lineman. Which is why I'd like SK do what he does best and trade for Cody Ford OL Buffalo or Andrew Norwell Jacksonville for low draft pick. N'Keal Harry or possibly Devante Parker are big WR's who could be on the move and the former could be rec'd for a very low draft pick or AI. Giving up 6th or 7th round picks are easy to get back as you can always trade back 4-6 spots in 3rd rounds and pick up these picks at draft time.
