During the head coaching search there were local rumors from insider sources that Keim wanted to go with BA’s recommendation—-which was to promote defensive coordinator James Bettcher to head coach. On the other hand, Bidwill wanted a clean break from BA and the start of a fresh, new chapter where the head coach could teach and support the high profile draft picks with “different personalities” that BA and his staff had shunned. Keim wanted Bettcher as head coach and Mike McCoy as offensive coordinator. Thus, a compromise was reached—-Bidwill got his man in Steve Wilks and Keim got his choice for OC in Mike McCoy. As we know, McCoy was high on Steve Keim’s short list of head coaching candidates back in 2013. www.revengeofthebirds.com/platform/amp/2018/10/16/17982614/bidwill-and-keim-at-oddsIf this is true both of them are idiots.

Steve Wilks is one of those rah rah guys who sounds great in a suit. But in terms of a football mind he's pewee Herman.

I would certainly hope Bidwill and Keim are at odds. Bidwill made Keim a highly-compensated NFL GM and in return his boy delivered some horrible PR for being to dial up an Uber. If Bidwill isn't at odds with Keim because of that then he's definitely an idiot. Or forgiving to a fault.
It's a mess, probably can't be salvaged. The debate about retool vs. rebuild is a waste of energy.

" Dude looks like a stand up guy who runs a tight ship" I knew nothing else of him. I figured he cant be that bad because Carolina's defense always beat up The Cardinals.

I'm sure there is some stress between MB and SK. Goes probably all the way sown to the coaches. It's not that the Cards are terrible. It's that there has been NO improvement in either the offense or defense. It takes time for a new coach and system to be put into place and function as a unit, but after 6 games it shouldn't be the same terrible ball game after game.
I was a big supporter of SK the first 3 years. Not so anymore. The guy just isn't a competent GM. Way to many early ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd ) round draft positions missed. Way to many players brought in who just aren't all that good. Smith and Pugh are just two. Smith wasn't any good for the two previous years, but yet he is our starting RT. Pugh came from a line who was as bad if not worse than the Cards line last year.
Most high draft choices, about 85% of them should come from power 5 conferences. Those kids know what it's like to play against elite college competition. Sure most GM's have high draft choices that are busts. SK has had 2 whole drafts ( both the 16 and 17 ) that haven't been any good. I don't know of any other team that drafts a kid ( other than QB ) with the intention of red shirting him his first year. That's a years 1st round pick wasted. Besides Humph isn't going to make people forget Joe Thomas any time soon. He is at best a serviceable LT. So what did that red shirt year really get the Cards ?
Right now I'd give SK a D for his time with the Cards. GM's with D grades don't last to long. I'm sure MB is seriously looking at the whole team. That includes SK. If there isn't major improvement by years end there will be a lot of heads role. One of those could certainly be SK. One that need to be gone tomorrow is McCoy. Guy should never have been hired in the first place. He was a failure as a head coach, and he has been a failure as an O coordinator at every stop he has had.
Wilks might have another year. That's all going to depend on if and how much improvement this team shows by game 16. Another one who wasn't qualified for the position he is in.
It's going to be interesting the rest of the year. Maybe at the end of the year we can have a post on who goes and who if any stays. Because folks that and the draft and how high we pick is all we have to look forward to this lost year.

Steve Wilks is one of those rah rah guys who sounds great in a suit. But in terms of a football mind he's pewee Herman. Another rah rah guy.... Dave McGinnis. "In that locker room it's one heartbeat!" Jumping into the stands after the usual four wins at SDS to slap hands with the few diehards who cared enough to hang around and slap hands with the ball coach.
Alas, it all ended after 2003 when the ultimate players coach got the boot while his players had the serious sadz about losing the guy they loved so much they got him fired. {Sniff sniff}.
Anyway, since I'm always Mr. Sunshine around here I'll hold out hope a little bit longer that Wilks isn't McGinnis 2.0 and that there's some green shoots coming up from the dirt by the end of the year. I want to give him a full complement of 16 games to prove his incompetence, or lack thereof.

Keim wanted Wilks. Wilks introduced himself to Keim years ago in the Carolinas. Keim was on the beach and Keim walked up to him and introduced himself. Wilks was reportedly Keim's #1 choice.
I think it's the opposite problem. Keim has been with the organization for so long that MB can't be objective when it comes to him. He is practically family and MB is going to give Keim the benefit of the doubt for a long time. Can you imagine having to fire your brother. That is the type of relationship they have.
