Looks like his best years are behind him. 49.5 rushing yards per game.

Points in his favor:
P-Poor blocking P-poor play design P-Poor utilization of his abilities and understanding of his limitations
Points against:
Seems much slower than last year when running.
Seems hesitant in picking a direction (to attempt to gain yards) Seems less able to catch balls that should be easy - too many drops compared to last year (hand/eye coordination lost from lack of practice? Needs glasses?)
His holdout during preseason etc. meant not being familiar with what team members can do (under the new scheme)
Possible explanations:
He's a new father - might be feeling old or ... neglected
Probably hates the way he is being used (understandable) Might be feeling too comfortable financially now compared to last year (not as likely, IMO, but possible) Nothing else the team is doing inspires him to try harder
Personality conflicts with new coaches All the time away from playing and exercise due to the broken wrist may have set him back physically, or He found that being away from it all was not that bad, and has become used to being more idle/lazy
Anyone have other ideas? IMO he is definitely "off" this year - even moves slowly on the sideline - is not obviously into what is going on during play... detached.
And as others have said, he looks smaller/less muscular than last year.

imho its a combination of all of your points, but imho its mainly bad ol and bad McCoy. next is that he was out of football for what amounts to a full year...

Saquon Barkley plays with a horrible QB who cant throw it more then 20 yards and a very bad line. And is thriving .
DJ got PAID.

Looks like his best years are behind him. 49.5 rushing yards per game. Is that what they were saying about Gurley when his numbers tanked the last year of Fischer's reign in St. Louis (2016)? 3.2 yds avg for a full 16 games. And he was not coming back from a year missed due to a wrist injury either. As for the Saquon comparison, there is no comparison that is relevant. Just finding another way to poke at the team and one of it's best players. Trash thread really. EDIT: Also something this thread and OP failed to consider, The Team has scored 11 TDs so far. David has accounted for 6 of those. 55% of the Team production in the endzone is from a "washed up" "Paid" RB. SMH

This is why RB's are no longer valued. They are only as good as their offensive line and passing game. If a team has no offensive line, they aren't going to get the holes to run through. And if they have no passing attack, the defense just stacks 8 men in the box. The media is just creating fake controversy to creating needless talking points. There is nothing wrong with David Johnson. He has no supporting cast. If David Johnson goes to Dallas, he will look like Ezekiel Elliott too.
Are there exceptions yes but I can count on one hand the number of RB's who could produce regardless of the OL. Barry Sanders and Erick Dickerson come to mind. Maybe Saquan is another in that same category. He is that good. Outside of those backs, the RB's are only as good as their OL. And the Giants OL is far better than our offensive line. Don't kid yourself.

Cardinals oline is worse in the running game, have a worse play caller and Giants make Barkley a focal point of the offense. 2016 DJ was targeted 120 times in the passing game. 2018 he is on pace for less than 60 targets.Probably wont even hit 40 receptions.Barkley already at 40.

And Thanks for posting those too! <thumbs up!>
