so my question is: if cards had top 5 defense or close last few seasons why HIRE hc who would change defense into completely different scheme? hiring hc who would do this was just . this is not a personal attack on wilks but he sure does look overwhelmed. imagine if packers get new hc next year and he decides to remake packers into power running team in spite of having aaron Rodgers-the green bay fans would dismember him. I was thinking about this last night as well. The cards spent 10 years (2007-2017) drafting for a 3-4 defense and then hired a HC who was going to move to a 4-3. The D was bound to take a step back, as would the offense with a new system and QB. I just didn't think that it would be this bad.

The defensive scheme is terrible, however I think the notion "players need to make plays" is even moreso important than the offensive failings. A missed tackle is not a scheme issue. Its a bum ass player issue, and we seem to have alot of them. Also Corey Peters civility seemed to crack a little in the past game interview. He said "After you watch the film, its easy to see whos making the mistakes". He knows whos at fault, but he doesnt want to say. Heres the answer: Nkemdiche Gunter Mayowa Bynes Reddick These 5 guys, primarily on the left side of the box, are at fault. Each of them is worse than the next at stopping the run. When the ball goes to the right side, Chandler and Peters do a pretty good (not great) job of stopping the run. They are also having trouble shedding blocks. I think their run D needs some massive improvements but I am okay with our secondary considering how long they have been on the field.

We didn't give up any points in the 1st quarter of the Redskins game, guess what did do? Go 7 plays and punt. The Vikings went 3 and out there 1st possession, we punted previously after 3 plays. The D has been on the field the 2nd most snaps of any team in the NFL trailing only the Browns....the Browns have played in 2 overtime games. The D isn't good, the offense is historically bad, what are we even discussing here? You realize the D was responsible for 10 of the 17 we even had yesterday right? We don't have a good 2nd corner, man isn't saving that either Latavius Murray rushed for 155 yards. Murray had runs for 21, 26, 28 and 34 yards. Minnesota was ranked 31st in rushing yards per game. Sorry, that's not a good defense that was just tired. You have to be pretty awful to give up a total of 195 yards to the worst rushing offense in the NFL. Blaming the offense for the defense's struggles is just more excuse making for Wilks. Why would I make excuses for a guy I'm on the record for saying I don't believe is a good coach? Again, nobody is mistaking this D for the 86 Bears. I'm just not going to blame a D when the answer is pretty clear that they give up plays from fatigue from an offense that can't sustain a drive thus putting more pressure on the defense. I don't even have to look at the time of possession and I know the Vikings were on the field much longer than we were, again it adds up

The Suns new coach said something great which was "we dont coach motivation". I love that. Grown men shouldnt need rah-rah speeches to do their jobs. These players have been playing football since they were 12. Theyve made 10,000 tackles in their football lives. They absolutely "know how" to tackle. I think this is 100% a "want" issue. These guys dont want to tackle and get banged up. And no amount of coaching can fix a weak heart. and also being on the field for 2 hours absolutely drains your physicality. The offense 3-n-out punting gives them no rest.

Total stats are misleading especially if you take into account how long they have been on the field.
