how bad is an offense that wins by 10 pts , wins t/o battle 5-0 and defense scores a td? first, the ol is LOUSY...I don't want to hear anything about there being 4 former number 1 draft pics among cards starting ol. for a rookie cole is doing ok-our best ol is Wetzel-a career backup.
watching McCoy call plays reminds me of when bobby ross became hc of lions and had NO CLUE AS HOW TO USE BARRY SANDERS-diff being ross figured it out after 3 games. I honestly don't understand why wilks hasn't grabbed McCoy by the throat and told him not to call so many dive plays into middle of defense-how many times has dj met a wall of defenders at the line of scrimmage?
shortly after the signings of Bradford and McCoy I ranted about how all oppponents had to do was load the box against the run and dare checkdown sam to make plays-we all saw the results...that is exactly what the 9ers did and its what every opponent will do this year against cards. fortunately rosen didn't crumble like sam would have but he was rattled.
imho larry is bothered quite a bit by his hamstring issue and dj is hamstrung by ol and McCoy. even peewee footballers would know to design offense around those two and to utilize dj in various ways as a runner and receiver and not the endless dive plays up the middle. whats the most disheartening is that if every opponent knows that and if we all know that then what the hell are wilks/McCoy doing??
defensively cards are horrible against the run and the zone pass defense just isn't working...how many times did 9ers have easy 8 yd completions on first down where fb or te was WIDE OPEN? cj played his best game of year by far, boston was lucky that he didn't get a couple of targeting penalties. it was puzzling and disturbing to see cards use 3 safeties when in basic 4-3-4 sets(dbs were pp, bethea, baker and boston)
a positive-looks like kirk is gonna develop just fine.
a question: have any of yall watched any cards practices? do the wrs CATCH the ball in practice?

The multiple drops are a major problem for sure, especially for this team that has so few plays that actually work. As a former TE who played football until I was 30, I had my share of dumb drops and later I always thought about each miss and what I did wrong just before contact. Each time, my hands were too far apart for the speed of the ball. Plain and simple. Close the hole. Practice helped but did not fix my rockhard mitts issue.

Jeff has the thought occurred to you that it might just be Wilk's own "Mandate to Run" that is forcing McCoy to be so ?
Did you notice the change on the series the D scored? That is when Wilk's and Holcomb had an exchange on the sidelines (captured by camera's) and Holcomb was not happy. Why? Because Wilk's started to make the D calls, not Holcomb. Wilks was carrying to Play call sheets with him yesterday. One for each side of the ball. And he started pulling them both out late in the game.
It's my contention that Wilk's both hurt the Team with his "Mandate to Run" orders to McCoy and helped/saved the D by taking over the D play calling late in the game. Otherwise even with CJ's and other D players valiant efforts the game would've been lost. How many noticed Reddick becoming used more and actively making plays late in the game?
Overall though I agree with 95% of your assessment.

Listening to 98.7 and Paul Cavisi (he is on the sideline the whole game and hears the coaches/players talking about what is going on) stated the players talked about how SF had Rueben Foster run blitz the "A" gap a LOT ... yet McCoy kept running the ball up the middle right into the blitz !!!!!
My goodness if they are going to blitz their fastest LB consistently, then easy passes to DJ circling out of backfield (into open spot left by Foster) or screens would have done 2 things: 1) gained big yardage and 2) Prevented the 49er defense from that tactic once they are burned a few times.
P.S. -- I don't know about everyone else but I was more encouraged after the Seattle game (Rosen development) than I was with a win vs. the 49ers QB'd by a guy who was a turnover machine.
NOTE: Reddick played all 98 snaps on defense and Bucannon played a total of FOUR !!! Reddick and Rodney Gunter easily played their best games as a Cardinal.

And I completely agree! The point I was trying to make is Wilks preached all off season, TC and PS that we Had To Dominate in the run game. Yet how can you dominate in the run game when you tell the opposition What you are going to do and then you do it over and over. Not changing a thing. Is it a dare tactic? If it is it's failing Miserably. Wilks needs to understand It's not working the way it's done right now. Wilks evn made the statement today about the O and it's problems, dropped passes missed blocks on the O-line and the last thing he said was RBs running to the wrong hole. Seriously Wilks??! Seriously! The 9'ers had every "hole" covered with 2 guys and a LB just waiting to jump in. Especially the A gaps that DJ is Told to run to.
