My argument for Trey Lance.
So, the 49ers plan on keeping Jimmy G. Looks like they're trying to do what the Chiefs did with the Smith - Mahomes transition.
IMO, there are only two options here. Justin Fields or Trey Lance. I honestly don't think that Mac Jones has the ceiling of either player, but his floor is pretty decent. However, why take Mac Jones in this division? He would be, what....3rd of 4th best QB in this division at best? Does Kyle have enough hubris to think he can overcome with that kind of talent? Or is the Pro Day attendance a smoke screen?
Finally, why trade up for 3 for Mac Jones? Now, mock drafts represent one of the biggest echo chambers that you'll ever encounter. The aggregate is a bunch of talking heads reiterating the same opinion over and over. Now, some of them have some solid contacts that work in front offices, but their opinion doesn't necessarily represent the big boards of each and every team for obvious reasons. That all said, I don't think you need to go to 3 to get Mac Jones.
So who has the most upside from the remaining QBs. It might be this guy...
Now, we all know how good that O-line plays for SF. What makes them so dangerous is the fact that they can run or pass from the same exact formation, and do it effectively. Thus, is a little harder to predict what they're gonna do. It pays to have receivers that can be HBs, HBs that can be WRs, and a TE that can be a high end receiving/YAC threat. You know what would make all of this ridiculously hard to game plan against? A running QB. More specifically, a QB that recently ran for 1100 yards, at 6.5 yards per attempt. Oh, and he's 6'4", and weighs in around 230 lbs.
Will follow-up with my argument for Justin Fields...

Is Kyle’s reported love for Mac just to throw people off? And why would he have to?

Is Kyle’s reported love for Mac just to throw people off? And why would he have to? I think Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks outlined some reasons why in their latest podcast, but the reason is eluding me... I'll give it another listen...

Lance is going at #3. SF needs a fresh face at QB, and a QB that doesn't end up in the critical care clinic after every game. Garapolla's trade clock is about to strike midnight, and he will sent eastward to his former team, NE Pats, by Draft day.

Some serious Mac Jones love here. I really hope the Niners make that move over Trey Lance or Justin Fields. I think Mac has a good floor, but worst upside compared to the other two.

Hoping that they pick Mac too. The dude was hurt around the senior bowl, and he played behind an awesome OL. Good luck in the Pros.

Justin Fields. One of his critiques is that he only looks for his first read...

Wavy locks Lawrence will sell more NFL junk than anyone since hairy hunk Joe in the 60s.

I read a lot of analysis over the weekend and switched from Mac to Lance. I’m curious if Shanahan wants Mac and the organization wants Lance, and who wins out. My money is on the side with the money.

I read a lot of analysis over the weekend and switched from Mac to Lance. I’m curious if Shanahan wants Mac and the organization wants Lance, and who wins out. My money is on the side with the money. All I know is I don't want Lance in SF and my good friend who is a Niner fan in WI wants Lance. Lance has a solid skill set, his ability to run is as good or better than Steve Young. He has been in a coaching tree where Josh Allen is from( WY HC is Bohls who was NDSU's HC and current coaches coached under him) they have a nack for finding QBs Wentz being one of them. Then they develop them into NFL ready guys who are used to proving others wrong. Like Allen the rest of the colleges miss what NDSU finds in HS recruits and for the most part they are solid characters who are committed to excellence and protecting the ball. Lance and J Cox are two of the most physically gifted players in their program history.
